No Parking Anytime: Expatriates look fondly on U.S. but aren't coming back
Seattle PI ^ | November 10, 2008 | KERY MURAKAMI

Of all the people who said during the past eight years that they'd had it with the United States, that they were leaving the country, these are the ones who really did move to Canada.

...snip...

"In Seattle, I was pretty far to the left," Kertes recalled. In Vancouver "a lot of times I'm the most conservative person in the room. I'll say something in a group and I'll be prepared for someone to say, 'You're so radical,' but (in Vancouver), it's not considered unusual. I sort of miss feeling special in that way."

I left Vancouver BC BECAUSE it’s was so far left of even the most retarded San Fran liberal. Vancouver right now: cold, depressing, will never see the sun for another 8 months, raining 24/7, a bum on every street corner, everyone unionized ergo prices so high no one but rich union leaders can live there..oh I forgot: a health dose of anti-Americanism. BDS full blown to proportions. No thanks: I have a more socialist overlord in B Hussein O to follow for the next 4 years.

If that isn’t the most telling statement of a person that believes it’s all about him. When are we as a country going to get of this mind numbing which has been crammed down our throats junk? If these people are that shallow, which we will see more of because people are giddy right now; they should move to another country.

It's easy to be a leftist nation when the country directly below yours would defend your shores with the lives of its soldiers and billions in military hardware.

Canada is like a nation of college protestors--very vocal about their leftism because their parents protect them from harsh realities.

Everywhere Liberalism is, is failure.

Why Barack Hussein Obama?

Why?????

This guy is already stopping drilling, moving cash for stem cell research and closing GitMo to save terrorists’ lives.

It’s sad when people can’t think for themselves and they can’t see past their own noses.

Let’s buy them all a mirror they can permanently attach to themselves and wish them well somewhere else.

"Maybe we shouldn't have sex for the sole purpose of having abortions" -'You're so radical'

"If we raise taxes to 100% and then give some back, we're actually wasting resources on postage stamps, so we should probably just let people keep a small percentage of their pay." -'You're so radical'

I'm an ex-pat who has been one the last few years because something sort of came up that fit my background. More of a conservative effort if one had to classify it.

Now I'm considering doing ex-pat stuff for another four years because I don't wish to be "ruled." I don't want to be ruled by anyone, but especially not someone who has about half my IQ and more ego than you can fit in a standard sized Texas county.

Then again, if things go down at home, I'd want to be there to help out.

We shall see...

That's because Vancouver is full of draft dodgers and other American Leftwing moonbats just like you, dummy. The result? Vancouver has a "carbon tax", The only province in Canada that does, and it's budget is always in deficit to pay for stupid socialist programs like free needles and shoot up places for addicts, free day care, and other idiocy, just like California. It's overloaded with enviro-kooks, who lobby to have multitudes of restrictions placed on all types of economic activity, resulting in a stagnant economy, Just like California.

Why bother to move? Oh I know, to gorge her/him/itself on something that this brain dead Moon bat never paid for, Canada's "free" crappy health care.

I'll be He/her/it lives on welfare as well. Like most leftwing moonbats, they think everyone else should pay to support them ecause the world/country somehow owes them something.

Vancouver is pretty much the carbon copy of SF, except for one thing, tons of Sikhs and Asians. The Anti-American attitude you speak of come largely from the ex- pats living there. The reason why they are like that is because they have to constantly convince themselves America is evil, because subconsciously they realize what a good thing they foolishly gave up.

Alberta, Sask. and Manitoba are conservative. Alberta doesn’t even have a sales tax, no “state” tax at all. They even get a divided check just for living there, similar to Alaska. The Leftist/liberal places are Vancover and Ontario, the same demographic we see in the usa in large urban centers like NYC and SF/LA

My family and I are seriously considering moving to Ireland. Low taxes, my ancestors came from there, and did I mention low taxes?

I’ve checked on Irish citizenship and if I invest the five years necessary, I can be an Irish citizen and a former American citizen. It’s a weighty decision and we are weighing all the options.

If it gets as bad under Hussein as I think it’s going to be, that may be the final weight towards Ireland.

What security blanket? Canada does more flights patrols along the atlantic coast under the NORAD defence agreement than we do. Canada may no longer be the 3rd largest military force in the world, but don't underestimate their abilities to defend themselves.

In both world wars Canadians kicked ass in Europe, turned the tide in the war before we even got there, and lost 10% of their population doing it. Afghanistan would be a real mess if it wasn't for the Canadians kicking ass there. Not really fair to mock them. They may be a small small force now, but excellent soldiers.

Just think: as a result of Obama's rapprochement regarding Raul Castro, Cuba could become (in a decade) a much more desirable—and warmer—version of Ireland!

...OK, maybe that's a stretch...

With all due respect, disagree totally. Went from grade school to high school at Notre Dame and attended Vanc Community college as my jr college. You know what the infamous “Canadian inferiority complex” is? They hate America but can never seem to shut up about America. They revel whenever CNN even mentions Canada. It;s a jealousy akin to a poor neighbor looking at the demise of their richer neighbor who drives a Corvette while they drive a Yugo.

And I've worked in North Western Canada for 35 years, You don't see that at all. Sure, you here a lot from leftist media, especially the cbc, but where does that come from? Ontario, the liberal epicenter of Union autoworkers. In Vancouver it's the kids of all those draft dodgers- All brainwashed Canadian leftists kids and their kids now, and all the immigrants who invaded the place which you call Jealous Canadians.

Real Canadians, outside of Vancouver and Ontario's major urban sprawl city Toronto, are not jealous of anything in the USA, why would they be when they are sitting on the largest natural resource dump in the world? Sure there is the odd one here and there, but for the most part Canadians are very friendly and welcoming, and pro Republican.

Canadians poor? You didn't get out of Port Coquitlam even once in 12 years?

Of course in Vancouver, being so Asian and ex-pat moonbat Left, drive little eco cars. except for the Sikh community, they drive a lot of Beemers.

Once you step into BC's interior and drive east towards Alberta, it's a completely different place. That's where the rich white Canadians live. And they don't consider corvettes a rich mans car. They drive Austin Martins, and other European cars, something that can handle the mountain curves.

I thought Vancouver was a beautiful city, but the number of aggressive panhandlers was simply astounding.

Astounding.

It made Cambridge, MA look like they had real control on panhandlers. And these people would get in your way and wouldn’t take NO for an answer.

That, and people sitting on a blanket in a park shooting heroin, with a cop standing right there...!

It is one thing to hear about that, another to see it with your own eyes.

You should investigate your move carefully. I work with a woman who married an Irishman and he planned to build them a house on some land he owned. The govt prohibited it because he wasn’t from that County. There are some pretty silly residence rules there. Also, it’s been my experience that most Irish are very liberal.

How the Conservative Party keeps winning in Canada, we’ll never know. Went to Vancouver once, actually not too bad of a place, never got mugged there or anything, at least. Place is definitely way overpriced though. You’d think with so many lefties the place would be a lot more affordable.

I was in Ireland last June. It was being reported to have the highest cost of living in the EU. The roads are insane. Very narrow and jammed with tourist buses. The family running the B & B also ran a local night spot and appeared to be working 24/7. I don't know about the “taxes” but the wife was complaining about all the “fees” and business “regulation”. Gas was around $9/gal and there appeared to be a lot less disposable income then in the U.S. “Grand” place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.
