The Death of the Right's Power on Radio and the Web
Talking Points Memo ^ | Nov 10, 2008 | By M.J. Rosenberg

Posted on 11/10/2008 3:39:40 PM PST by Jim Robinson

They had a long run. Rush and Malkin and Lucianne and Drudge and Free Republic and those Littlle Green Footballs.

But it's over. The Obama Presidency will produce untold millions for these guys because frustration and hate is something you can take to the bank -- but with no branch of government under their control, they have been rendered powerless. Who will pay attention when some irrelevant rightist hack like Eric Cantor (R-VA) or Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) rushes to the House floor to cite a Michael Savage diatribe? Nobody.

A great part of the Right's strength was the belief -- shared by many on the left -- that they represented the majority. We were an embattled minority, fighting them, history and demographic trends.

"We are, after all, a center/right country," they said and we echoed.

But now it is clear we are not. We're a centrist country and they are perceived by a clear, strong majority of Americans as the fringe. (Just look at those election returns from 2008 and 2006). They are like the far left. In that famous old dustbin.

I read their websites. They are counting on (hoping and praying) that Barack Obama will be a bad manager like Carter or undisciplined like Clinton. Not very likely. Besides, without control of Congress, what can they do anyway?

They can talk and raise money. We have the White House, Congress and are better at raising money.

So they are back to where they where after Goldwater lost. The wilderness...

Hey, we can always do a telephone news chain. Put 1000 people under one cell phone plan and then pass along the news updates. LOL

Yup. The conservatives are still the majority.

(now if we could only get them to vote)

Cantor’s a rightist hack? I don’t even know where to start with this article. All I know is, the clock is running on the rats’...as soon as the One starts implementing policy, his political standing will drop like a rock, and the GOP will be on its way out of the wilderness.

YOU SCARED ME TO DEATH! Thanks for the heads up! Thank goodness FREEREPUBLIC is still UP. It scared me when I couldn’t log on a day or two ago. Thanks for getting it back up and for emailing me about it, I passed the word on to other TX Freepers!

I think Obama will do his best to destroy USA. I hope that we will win massive numbers of seats in House and Senate in 2010! If the Messiah allows elections.

If the Republicans are the party of the rich fat cats, why do the Democrats raise so much more money all the time?

Could it be that Republicans are actually the party of Joe the Plumber while the Dems are the party of George the Soros?

That would be fine with this conservative.

You nailed it Argus!

The Republican Party is the party of the working class.
The Democrat Party is the party of the welfare class, and the idle rich!

That’s not true. We just elected a new minority leader! Oh wait a minute— we kept the same guy that led us into 2 historic defeats in a row.

For a minute there I thought we were really serious about cleaning house and getting power back. Guess not.

Oh well, Boehner led us to 2 historic defeats in a row— third time’s the charm!

If Boehner was a secretary, he’d be fired for incompetence. If Boehner was an NBA General Manager (not of the Clippers or Knicks) he would be fired. If he were a campaign manager— he would be fired.

Only as head of the GOP can someone mess up so bad and keep their job.

They do wish. But it seems to me that a large % of the “right” is going to be pushing for the party to move left. The DavidFrum/DavidBrooks/McCain wing of the party will not be willing to do what is necessary to revive the conservative movement to Reaganism. They are ready to turn the page and become the post Thatcher Tories.
