Lieberman faces day of reckoning

THE time may have come for Joe Lieberman to pay the price.

The Connecticut Independent, a one-time Democratic nominee for vice-president, began talks yesterday with Senate leaders about his future role in the Democratic Party after he infuriated colleagues with his vocal advocacy of John McCain's bid for the presidency.

In the balance are Senator Lieberman's chairmanship of the powerful Homeland Security Committee and his position as amember of the Democratic caucus. The Connecticut senator has voted with the Democrats ever since running as an independent in 2006.

The talks with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid concluded without resolution. In a written statement, Senator Reid said he would hold several meetings with Senator Lieberman before deciding what he might do.

"While I understand that Senator Lieberman has voted with the Democrats a majority of the time, his comments and actions have raised serious concerns among many in our caucus," Senator Reid said.

Again...You walk down the middle of the road, and you get hit from BOTH directions.

Being buddies with Lieberman cost McCain a lot more votes than choosing Sarah for VP ever did.

At least Lieberman is intellectually honest to be a lib.

Start your public confessions, Joe, about how you betrayed the Party, the earth, humanity, and The One. “All Hail Big Brother!!! All Hail Big Brother!!! “...

Lieberman’s domestic policy positions are straight-line lib, but at least he gets it on why we have to fight the enemy, which is a whole lot more than other libs.

Voting record aside,he’s probably the only lib in Washington that I would consider inviting to my house for dinner.Kerry couldn’t get in without a court order.

He should have cross the aisle when his fellow democrats tried to replace him with a rabid anti-war candidate. The fact that he is about to let them make a fool of him for the second time makes me think he deserves it.

The democratic party seems to think they are going to kill Lieberman. We the people of Connecticut will decide that. I'll remind them that we already reelected him as an independent over a Bush hating democrat candidate. Keep up the attacks and we just may do it again.

If we can get Lieberman to vote our way on things like abortion or ANYTHING that might make Reid’s blood pressure rise and stroke out, bring him over to the GOP. His record will still be better than some of the RINOs.

Joe Lieberman a decent man - is an example of the “loyal opposition” who puts country above partisan politics. We may disagree on many issues but you can at least have a dialog and some sort of meeting of the minds - unlike current crop of rabid dogs who call themselves democrats.

LIEberman is right on ONLY ONE issue - the war on terror.

He does not need to become a Republican. He can simply caucus with the Republicans and stay an independent. He IS going to lose his position in the Dim party regardless. He was simply useful idiot to Reid for the last two years. Keeping him as a committee member kept him voting and caucusing with the dims which gave them a "majority". Now, they don't "need" him -

HE IS GONE!

If LIEberman had real principles he would have become a repub and given the senate to our side.

Now he’s irrelevant to us but will be punished by the sore winners on the left.

Thirty years ago you would have been laughed out of the room if you said that southeastern Okla would vote Repub. Something strange happened, I don’t remember the details exactly. As I recall a very popular Dem representative from SE Okla ran for governor. He lost in the primary because of some shenanigans in the party. Since he did not run for his house seat as a dem in the primary he decided to change parties & was able to keep his seat in the house in the general election. I believe that seat has been republican ever since, if not conservative dem. Look at the map from Tuesday and the last two presidential elections, try to find blue in Okla.
Someone who sees the light and changes can be a lot more effective in changing votes.

I actually think it would be better if Lieberman stayed in the Democratic party..! That way they wouldn’t all be far left loonies (though Lieberman is still a liberal)!
