VANITY: Republican Non-turnout Helped Obama Win
Vanity | Nov 5, 2008 | Self

Posted on 11/05/2008 8:00:29 PM PST by SeekAndFind

I agree with D.J. Drummond in his blog here :

http://stolenthunder.blogspot.com/

when he said :

-----------------------------------------------------

Consider the next fact; turnout this year was down, not up. Down by more than five million votes from 2004. Somebody did not bother to vote this year. But who was it?

Again looking at CNN, it turns out that participation by democrats was 7 points higher than republicans. There was a modest 3 percent increase nationally in democrat voter registration from 2004’s tallies, while republicans dropped turnout by at least 15 percent from 2004. So if you are one of those eight million republicans who thought there was no reason to vote congratulations, you helped get Senator Thug-Light elected President. I have said all along that the election would come down to turnout, the independents, and the undecided voter, in that order.

--------------------------------------------

BY NOT VOTING EN MASSE, REPUBLICANS JUST HELPED ENSURE THAT OUR COURTS WILL PROBABLY FILLED WITH LEFTIST BENCH LEGISLATORS WHO WILL BE THERE TO CHANGE THIS COUNTRY LONG AFTER OBAMA IS GONE.

I would say the bulk of this 4% is due to people changing their party label (usually to independent) and a bit is probably due to attrition (death).

I don’t believe that many Republicans who are American republicans and know something about what that is, refused to vote!

It would have helped to have two conservatives on the ticket.

John McCain sucks. That’s what it’s about. Everyone’s looking for a leader. They didn’t find one in this election. If one comes along, they will follow.

But in this election, we had a man who openly mocks the American dream on one side and a man who wants to cross the aisle to ‘work with’ a man who openly mocks the American dream.

Of course, that’s an easy choice for me to make. But when the electorate sees a liberal vs a guy who is running on working with liberals, they may as well cut out the middle man. That’s what they did.

If John McCain had led, he could have won. If he had been able to call Bush out for not being conservative, he could have run against Obama from the right. But as it stood, Obama actually managed to get to the right of McCain in the eyes of the electorate. We can never win like that. Nor do we deserve to.

10 million Republicans stayed home for lack of a conservative candidate. Those are the votes that elected Bush in 2004.

You should have posted the article in the place for the story, then put your comments underneath.

If you had, you could see that the premise was faulty... Note these words: "Consider the next fact; turnout this year was down, not up. Down by more than five million votes from 2004."

The current tentative numbers show that there were more than 25 million more voters this year than in 2004.

This usually happens when you run a fossilized Washington insider who runs a lackluster campaign against a young, well spoken, Washington outsider who runs a well organized, dynamic campaign.

Add in the willing media sycophants and there you have it.

To get turn out you have to create excitement for the candidate and ticket. That just wasn't there this time to the extent it was needed. Palin not withstanding. (and I loved her by the way)

...and I’m sure the suicide threads on this forum (”stick a fork in us”, “US (1776-2008)”, etc) are guaranteeing Freeper non-turnout for all future elections as well.

I tend to agree. Alot of these new “Democrats” were actually William Weld, Christopher Buckley, Colin Powell “Republicans.” They either changed affiliation to “independent” or to “Democrat,” or just voted for Barack Obama.

Once Sarah Palin became VP nominee, most of my Conservative friends felt they could pull the lever for McCain. But McCain didn’t hold HIS personal base — the RINO’s, the “Independents” — they fled from McCain due to the excitement and “newness” of Obama, and due to the true Conservative nature of Sarah Palin. God forbid that we should have a Conservative with convictions anywhere NEAR the White House again!

So, Republicans like Spectre, McCain, Snow... They’re back where they feel most at home — in the minority. And Conservatives must start all over again. Learn this lesson well — Don’t trust RINO’s, and don’t cross the aisle to Liberals. If you’re a Conservative, you ALWAYS lose.

What’s more aggravating to me is there are 63 million idiots that voted for this clown. So if there are that many liberals inthe USA, tell me again why Liberal Talk Radio goes nowhere but into the dumper and all the openly liberal slanted cable news shows offer up nothing but the most abysmal ratings ever? Someone explain to me how Obambi’s voters can’t find the time to become an auidience for their moronic foghorns on TV and radio?? This makes virtually no sense to me.

Because liberalism at it’s very core is “group think”. You don’t need a radio show for that. Most Dem voters are simply not interested in the nuts and bolts of policy, just who is going to give them “stuff”.

Nancy Pelosi pushed them to vote for the bailout it.
It was a magnificent maneuver she knew would alienate the fiscal conservatives.

They were too stupid to figure it out.

Nancy will run circles around Obama.

You can't win on the "I'm not as bad as the other guy" platform -- just ask J. Effen Kerry. Instead of moaning about people's lack of interest in a sub-par product, wouldn't it be more constructive to discuss what principles would inspire people to vote for GOP candidates in 2010 and 2012?

We have made a special point of pushing them out of the party.

With 97% reporting nationwide there are one million less votes cast in 2008 than 2004. At the end there may be 4 to 5 million votes cast in 2008 then 2004 but for sure not 25 millions more votes.

The only one to blame for John McCain's loss, is John McCain.

He was a lousy Republican and he was even a worse candidate if that is possible.

Just goes to show you if you do not have a firm foundation of principles, especially conservative principles, you ain't going to win many elections.

All of McCains conservative credentials (or principles) were up for sale (Except for most of his Defense related positions) for the most votes, or he was down-right on the wrong side of the issues such as Amnesty.

Quit blaming the victim and start blaming the person who committed the crime and the crime is this case was John McCain being a "Maverick".

He was much more of a conservative than McCain.

Remember the Tax-Cuts that McCain falsely called "tax-cuts for the rich"?

Remember McCain-Fiengold?

Remember McCain-Lieberman?

Remember his support for the Carbon Cap-and-Trade system?

Remember his support for Embryonic Stem Cell Research?

Remember his stance against drilling in ANWR?

Remember his total buyin to the Global Warming Scam?

Garbage!

Conservatives have made a point of enforcing the law on Illegal Aliens, not Hispanics. If Hispanics are unhappy with that, well tough!

The GOP has always been the Law and Order Party, Not the Party over Principle party.

As for the Log Cabin Republicans, who really cares since they make up only a fraction of a fraction of 1 percent of possible voters of the GOP.

I'd say they bear virtually no culpability in comparison with anyone who voted for McCain in a primary. THEY are the architects of this defeat.

Republicans are supposed to be more patriotic than this. They didn’t get everything they wanted and now we have an Obama presidency. It should have been a decisive defeat for Barry. I guess they just couldn’t see the danger.

That gap should read “5 million more,” not “25 million more,” though it will obviously continue to increase.
