Dell to employees: Help tighten the belt
Boot Daily.com ^

Posted on 11/05/2008 12:23:01 PM PST by WaveMan

Michael Dell spent the past 21 months cutting employees, slashing costs and reshaping Dell Inc. to make it more competitive in a changing personal-computer marketplace. Now, with a brutal economy forcing customers to cut back on technology spending, he's turning to his workers for more help.

In a memo Monday, Dell asked employees throughout the company to consider taking off as many as five days without pay over the next three months. In addition, he said, the company would institute a hiring freeze, scale back some projects, offer voluntary severance packages and cut many of its contract workers.

Hey Mikey, here’s a thought. Outsourcing your support overseas to save a few pennies, has cost you millions. All the flashy paint you are buying from a 60 year old hippie, ain’t gonna boost sales.

Bring your support back, and knock off the nazi like support policies, and you’ll regain a lot of what you’ve lost. 10-4?

Idiot.

Quite a fall from those days when Dell ran those cutsie-poo commercials on TV, when the firm could do no wrong.

Fortunately for those let go, Obama wants to extend unemployment bennies.

I’m sure that Michael Dell, Uber-lib, is “spreading the wealth” by reducing his own income proportionately with the cuts he’s making in employee’s compensation. Somehow that was missing from the article.

Before you get on me that much of Dell’s wealth is in the stock of his corporation, which has taken a hit, fine. I’m sure his employees with 401k plans suffered no less. Dell no doubt also receives a salary. Perhaps he could cut that. As well as some corporate perks.

Dell should shut down his company and give the money back to the shareholders. It’s only fair.

Check him out at opensecrets - he donates to Republicans and his company only.

He’s not a lib, more’s the pity.

Their salary will now consist of two bowls of rice per day, instead of three, and no more free chopsticks.

“I’m sure that Michael Dell, Uber-lib, is “spreading the wealth””

Might want to check Dell’s political contributions. They are almost exclusively to Republicans.

I don’t fault Dell at all. I used to work there. Problem is, Michael Dell just became the CEO again, after Kevin Rollins and others made poor decisions, including outsourcing thech support to India, and nearly ran the company into the ground.

Dell will get the ship righted.

Oh, and I don’t have a problem with this.

As a business owner, the Obama tax increases are going to earn some of my employees permanent time off without pay. Dell is trying to retain employees and strengthen his company.

I can hear the leftist, laid-off employees chanting:

“I won’t worry about paying my mortgage; I won’t worry about putting gas in my car.”

"For Pete’s sake, cut liberal democrat employees first."

a) Most of them are already on the gravy train, and

b) The rest are trust fund (cry) babies or Hollyweirdo's

Someone wrote a post about the small businessman who decided if Obama was elected, he’d cut 3 of the workers in his company, all Obama supporters. I hope we get a follow-up how that goes over. :-)

There is also going to be another cut around Christmas. A friend’s boss already got the memo. Said friend’s position is also very shaky with his previous duties cut back a few months ago so he’s looking elsewhere.

That reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:

We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle. ~Winston Churchill (1874-1965)

Some things never change.

I wonder how much of a pay cut Dell executives took. I’m guessing unprecedented raises and bonuses.

To be overheard at Dell: “Were you happy when Obama was elected President?”
“Why yes I was! Finally a president that is for me and not for greedy corporations.”
“Well then I’m sure he’ll take care of you now that you’re out of a job. Goodbye.”

ya know....I’ll be purchasing an “All-in-one” in the next few months, and the contenders are Dell, Apple, & Sony.

If I align my consuming with my politics, Sony may be the least liberal play....besides....Consumer Reports likes that one best....

In the spirit of the recent election why not create a new tax where DELL can withhold a sizable sum of employees paychecks in return for providing them a job. I’m sure the libs in Congress would think it’s a good idea but they would expect a piece of the action so it would have to be a pretty hefty tax. DELL can list the deduction as “PATRIOTISM TAX” in honor of Joe Biden.

I promise everyone that 90% of his employees are left wing liberal hippies. It’s in Austin. Well, actually Round Rock but close enough. This is one of the blue areas of Texas. And there have been so many foreclosures there that you can no longer get mortgage insurance which means you have to pay 20% down with perfect credit.
