Bush: ‘Change’ coming to Washington
The Hill ^ | 05 Nov 2008 | Sam Youngman

Posted on 11/05/2008 8:30:38 AM PST by BGHater

President Bush said Wednesday that he promised his full cooperation to President-elect Barack Obama in their phone conversation on election night.

Bush also reflected on the history-making race, which for the first time propelled a black man to the country’s highest office.

“No matter how they cast their ballots, all Americans can be proud of the history that was made yesterday,” he said, adding, “Many of our citizens thought they would never live to see that day. This moment is especially uplifting for a generation of Americans who witnessed the struggle for civil rights with their own eyes — and four decades later see [that] dream fulfilled.”

Bush acknowledged the historical gravity of the moment, saying that “we’re embarking on a period of change in Washington.”

But he also warned that “there are some things that will not change,” as he sought to assure the country that he would continue to keep the nation safe during the transition period.

“The United States government will stay vigilant in meeting its most important responsibility — protecting the American people,” Bush said. “And the world can be certain this commitment will remain steadfast under our next commander in chief.”

Bush said he will continue to “conduct the people’s business as long as this office remains in my trust,” but he said he will keep Obama “informed” as the 43rd presidency comes to an end with the country fighting two wars and in the grips of an economic crisis.

Outside the White House, where on Tuesday night thousands gathered, cheering and chanting Obama’s name, the crowds had returned to the smaller, more subdued groups of tourists.

The president said it will be a “stirring sight” to watch the Obama family move into the White House, and he knows that “millions of Americans will be overcome with pride at this inspiring moment that so many have awaited so long.”

Bush said he extended an invitation to Obama and future first lady Michelle Obama and said he looks “forward to welcoming them as soon as possible.”

The president also spoke of his conversation with defeated Republican candidate Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), saying that “he’ll continue to make tremendous contributions to our country.”

"a true Christian who turns the other cheek."

He also doesn't turn a blind eye.

This good man was demonized by Barrack Hussein Obama and his Chicago thug machine.

Obama and the Congress are going to drag him and folks in his administration through show trials for the next eight years.

Most likely, W will end up in jail

No ... W will end up dead. After the "Show Trials" the terrorists will demand that W and Cheney be extradited to the Islamaic world where the Sharia courts can put them up for war crimes trials and behead them.

Can Bush pardon himself? Can he pardon his administration, then resign and have Chenny pardon him?

I don't think he can pardon himself, but he can pardon everybody else, including Cheney, and then resign to Cheney and Cheney can pardon him. And that is PRECISELY what they should do. Self-defense.

President-elect Barack Obama rise is a “triumph of the American story,” President Bush just said.

“All Americans can be proud,” Bush added, about the election of the nation’s first African-American president, the Democratic senator from Illinois.

“”It will be a stirring sight to see President Obama, his wife, Michelle, and their beautiful girls step through the doors of the White House,” the president said. “I know millions of Americans will be overcome with pride at this inspiring moment that so many have waited so long.”

Bush = Barf!

Yes it is, and Republicans will rue the day they did not close the borders when they had a chance.

Now, tens of millions of Third worlders will be brought in, and be made eligible to vote. Say hello to a permanent Socialist majority.

I think a lot of folks are forgetting the stain and dis-honor that Bill Clinton left in the White House.

Bush’s priority since day one has been to maintain the honor of the office.

We got a woman speaker under Bush. We got a muslim marxist president under Bush. Can he do anymore damage?

If he is arrested and tried there will be few who will stand up for him.

Who wants to bet that he WILL NOT pardon Scooter Libby?

Thanks a lot, George. Sell the country down the radical leftist river just to make a symbolic gesture. I will be glad when you are gone back to Texas and we don’t have to listen to this kind of dreck (”Islam is a religion of peace!”) from you anymore.

I applauded GWB this morning. His statement was very gracious. So were John McCain's concession comments last evening. Look for McCain to be offered a high position in Obama's administration: Rumors are swirling about McCain serving as Secretary of Defense.

What happened last evening was all Bush's fault. He should have spoken openly about Russia's duplicity. Smuggling Saddam's WMD to Syria was a huge victory for Putin. I trust Bush will have the foresight to inform Obama of the truth when they speak privately. If Bush does not, this will confirm my strong suspicions that he was 'out of the loop.'

Putin was playing chess, while Bush was playing checkers. 'Nuff said here.

A one issue president. I’ll admit I’m happy he kept us from being attacked again. But he’s ushered in a muslim who will get us destroyed.

I’m not blaming anything on Clinton. I am just stating that Bush is going to receive Obama with class because the HONOR of the Office of President is one of his highest priorities. Bush isn’t going to act like a piece of crap like the Clinton people did.
