US President George W. Bush late Tuesday telephoned his apparent successor, Democrat Barack Obama, to congratulate him on his "awesome night," according to White House spokeswoman Dana Perino. "Mr President-elect, congratulations to you. What an awesome night for you, your family and your supporters. Laura and I called to congratulate you and your good bride," she quoted Bush as telling Obama.
"I promise to make this a smooth transition. You are about to go on one of the great journeys of life. Congratulations and go enjoy yourself," Bush told Obama, she said.
The president also invited Obama and his family "to visit the White House soon, at their convenience," Perino said.
Bush was also to reach out to Obama's defeated rival, Republican John McCain, who conceded the fight shortly after 11:00 pm (0400 GMT).
I need to puke.
bush screwed over mccain in 04 and he did it again.
I’ll give President Bush the credit for making a night like this possible.

I love George W. Bush. He has been a great President. I will miss him so much. After January, he can go to the ranch and be shed of the hideous , incessant , evil attacks of the media and Dems. They have their lil messiah now...and took their numbers....666
And where did class get them? Now we've got a full-fledged Marxist headed for the White House.
Thanks Bush for your lack of communication possible to allow this Communist in the Blackhouse.
NO cheers, unfortunately.
Stupid remark.
One thing F15, this should be the day that affirmative action ended. If a black man can become president, there are no glass ceilings for minorities anymore, IMO. What say you?
I am believing now in conspiracy...why did Bush do this to us....the huge spending and the deficits and not doing anything about immigration....
he welcomes this fascist into the White house?..MY white house?
Can't argue with that.
I’d like to congratulate the “messiah” by offering him the opportunity to kiss my ass on Main Street and I’ll give him 15 minutes to draw a crowd. I do not like fascist dictators.
Bush’s idiotic $700 Billion bailout was the last straw. All that fear and doom and gloom ruined McCain’s chances.
Thanks Bush for four years of 0bama, the socialist — the least qualified President ever.
Obama 2008 ... brought to you by George W. Bush!
NO cheers, unfortunately.
I’m going to join John Birch.
Bush, a big middle finger to you, dumbassed “compassionate conservatism” that made you look like a drunken democrat sailor spending money like there was no tomorrow and treating democrat-socialists with respect instead of crushing their political windpipes.
Obviously, i`ve changed my mind about bush.
Give it a break.
I know you’re frustrated and angry. I am, too. But direct your angst to proper targets. Bush and McCain are not responsible for Obama’s win. Millions of ignorant American voters are.
Easy for him to say. He doesn’t have to observe the prick on the other end of the line scratching his nose in a most peculiar way.
President Lameduck, who helped the GOP absolutely zero % can shove a sock in it.
W — a clueless loser till the end.
Good riddance.
In fact this very moment, Obama’s mob is outside the White House shouting that Bush should move out now.
The Dems will do all they can to put W in jail.
Sad.
I would not be surprised if he is in Gitmo.
And in four more years we’ll 20 million “awesome” new voters courtesy of Bush. It should be an even bigger election and even more awesome.
If I had known then what I know now, I would have told people to vote for Kerry.
I’m serious.
Sheesh. This thread is worthy of DU.
What stupidity. I think a bunch of Freepers need to go to bed.
‘Night.
I will second that! This was his reaction in 2006 as well!
Take some of that Freddie and Fannie money you raised and go have a good time. Tell ole Raines hi for me. I expect something for helping Raines, Barney and Pelosi keep this covered up. Cheers, what a great nite for us...I mean America.
I think he’s off the wagon. Drunks tend to isolate themselves.
Yes, they are.
Thank you for saying that. And I’m embarrassed by so many crass replies to your gracious post.
I agree
he broke the GOP over the illegals and then put his idiots in charge of the GOP and then let the Dems take over the DOJ so Acorn and Dems could steal Ohio and God knows what ever states ( VA, PA, ) !
Then he fell for the Paulson Dem staff “ the sky is falling “scam which was really a showdown between Lehmans and Morgan and let the WS crash . Paulson knew it !
Thanks George !
Unfortunately my FRiend, I’d say this is the day America ended.
Not because of race or skin color but because a Marxist has been bought into the Presidency by foreign money.
And we’ve never seen his actual birth certificate, ever, that proves his eligibility. Will we now find out what they were so afraid to show before?
I hope the liberal goons are happy. They have no idea what is coming.
The ranch ain't good enough for him any more. My understanding he's moving to Dallas. He's a city boy now.
Your right !
I am literally sick to my stomach. Bush’s ‘Compassionate Conservatism’ only weakened the Conservatism in this nation and helped strengthened the Far Left. He opened the boarders to 3rd World immigrants who overwhelmingly vote Democrat. He helped change the political demographics for the Dems.
Who would have believed a short 7 years after 9/11, that a good portion of New York state would elect a man whose pastor celebrated 9/11 and the deaths of innocent Americans?
And then Obama stayed in that “church” 7 more years?
And that the majority of idiot America would jump on the kool-aid bandwagon?
I have now truly seen it all. Stupidity that is.
Congratulations and go enjoy yourself,” Bush told Obama
Said one ZERO to another.
You know we have to look at it - it is historical - who would have ever thought that an African American would be POTUS.
Who would have thought 1 year ago, that we would be saying President-Elect Barack Obama - 1 year ago I thought it would be President-Elect Hillary Clinton.
The one area I totally disagreed with Bush on was No Child Left Behind...
I see the GOP in the same state as it was in 1976...we have good leadership in Governor’s Palin, Jindal, Pawlenty...let Palin and Jindal become the standard bearers and conservatives will rise again.
sadly you are so right .
Millions of ignorant American voters and Bush.
It looks like W was the deceiver ushering in the anti christ.
He fooled the hell out of me.
Why did Bush do this? Because, like his daddy, he wants one world government.
Well, Bush will finally get the immigration amnesty he so dearly wanted.
I can’t think of anything positive to say at the moment.
Affirmative Action is now going to be the President. Why would he put an end to it?
Sorry, Bush’s main faults were that he didn’t confront his own party one spending and pushed two failed programs:
1. Reform social security (good idea)
2. Ammesty (bad idea)
And he took his eye off the ball for too long in Iraq. He should had the surge 2 years earlier.
But, all in all, a good President because he kept us safe.
I can blame Bush for a lot...but it was at the request of the RNC and the McCain ticket that he be kept away from the cameras and reporters with regards to the election.
Unreal how badly things got for Bush in just 3.5 yrs that he couldn’t even show his own face at an event.
I don’t recall George helping the GOP one time in 8 years. I hope a Bush is never on the ticket again.
I'm sure that a lot of it is the grief and sadness talking. I must now put a plan together to leave the United States. In military intelligence, I specialized in the government and armed forces of the DPRK (North Korea) and I WILL NOT live in a socialist/communist country in any form or fashion.
I think obama will do the impossible. He's going to make Carter, Clinton and Bush look like good presidents.
