A review of US Great depression history shows that there are X actions that absolutely should NOT be taken by the US government. 1. Raise taxes 2. Enact protectionist trade policies 3. Defend the dollar by increasing interest rates 4. Depend on government infrastructure projects to push the economy out of its doldrums.

How many of these policies will Obama enact?

FDR's New Deal didn't pull the US out of the Great Depression. WWII military spending did it (1942 military expenditures=1940 GDP)

Coal, oil, nuclear agree sell big time - foreign energy stocks might be a good buy.

Lets see... We’ve elected a guy who wants to increase the taxes on corporations and privately owned businesses that make a decent profit, wants to jump the tax on capital gains from 15 to 28 % in one stroke of the pen, wants the goverment to take over, I believe it’s the 4th or 5th largest industry in the country, health care, wants to impose cap and trade sanctions (huge costs) on businesses to fund the myth that man made Co2 is causing global warming, wants to tax coal as an energy source out of business, sending gas and other energy expenses through the roof..

And what, wall street is supposed to love it ???

To hell it 8,500, but the time this dickhead is through, the dow wil be struggling to make it back to 5,000 and most of the country will be in a depression...

How freaking stupid are the people in this country ? Duh, we want change. Oh yeah, you’re gonna get your change alright. No problem, things are not going to be the same anymore,... it’s gonna be much worse.

Enjoy your change your freaking morons !!!

8691 less 8450. You do the math.

Dow futures are up and have been for the last hour or so that I have been watching.

http://www.bloomberg.com/markets/stocks/futures.html

You have a bad source.

Just checked bloomberg TV. They show futures now unchanged.

Thanks for posting. I was hoping to find (to post or read) news of DOW futures for tomorrow. Kind of what I expected. I can’t wait to see what He does. But I expect after the swearing in, the complaining about the ‘mess he was handed’ and the excuses about why this or that won’t/can’t work are already being readied. And what of the markets in the meantime? It will be interesting. It will be interesting to see what a 4 year senator with no ‘big’ government experience, who criticized his opponent for being ‘weak’ on economic understanding, will have to say or do to get us back to recovery, because I’ve heard precious little so far, except complaints about what was done. Change. We’re about to find out what that means. And new taxes won’t fix it all.

I think the market factored in an Obama win 2 weeks ago.

He's going to have a tough time with all of the Os off of his keyboards. Of course, they can just use the Zeros.

I see the problem. The CNBC numbers are screwed up. Dow was over 9500 today. They are 1000 points off. Go to CNNMoney.com for the correct numbers.
