Long Lines, Voting Problems Reported Statewide At The Polls [VIRGINIA]
Hampton Roads Pilot ^ | 11/4/08

Voters were lined up by the hundreds Tuesday as polls opened in Virginia, and reports quickly began to mount of malfunctioning voting machines and polling places opening late.

The State Board of Elections said at a briefing there were no "widespread problems" and blamed human error and the rain for those problems that were reported.

"Virginians are turning out in record numbers," spokeswoman Susan S. Pollard said in a statement. "Although a light rain is falling across the state, it does not seem to have dampened turnout."...

State elections officials have said Virginia could see an unprecedented Election Day turnout. Since Jan. 1, Virginia had added 436,000 people to its voting rolls....

My polling place in the West End of Richmond, VA had lines out the wazoo at 6am and this is a very conservative area. So, good news. The “fear factor” is working beautifully.

I think heavy turn out is good for McCain/Palin. And I think Palin is what’s causing the heavy turn out.

“WHY ARE WE NOT DRAGGING THESE dims INTO THE STREETS AND HANGING THEM???”

...I’ll start “dragging” if you’ll tie the knots.

A lawsuit has been filed by delegate Bill Janis (a pub atty) and the McCain campaign to include these military ballots. BTW...it is now pouring rain from Richmond to Northern Va to Hampton Roads. Huge lines starting at 5:30 this am. Loads of enthusiasm in Va! Keep praying.

These reports of long lines in red areas . . . it would be useful to know if they seem longer than seen before. This is the critical data.

Albie,

I just got back (2pm) from voting in my precinct near the U of Richmond. Grand total of 1 voter. I hope that means all conservatives voted early here.

On to victory!

I think the military votes will be counted, that is law. McCain is rolling in Va, and lets hope he is winning without the military votes. We know we have them in the bag.

back in 2002, they moved our republican voting precinct from the centrally located school to the special ed center (about three miles away) located on a dead end with no parking.
Most of the voters there were apartment dwellers and didn't have cars so they couldn't vote w/o help which they weren't getting because the buses were all occupied.
That is when I realized that we need to vote party line, everytime, regardless of who is on it.

The dems have been at war with America for a long time, it's just been recently that Repubs realize this and it may be too late. They don't love the country, they don't love the constitution, they don't respect the opposition (unless it's terrorists, commies and anti-US thugs) and they want to control the population, not free them.

BS ALERT!!! NO MAJOR PROBLEMS.

I just got in from voting (3rd in line)and making the rounds of other areas with friends. Very FEW problems have been reported. Minor stuff (One poll worker overslept and was late) one optical reader malfunctioned (Fixed in about a half hour after opening)and a couple of other minor problems. Lots of McCain bumper stickers going in and out of parking lots.

Things are going smooth here. CONFIDENCE HIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The military vote will arrive too late to get counted. McCain/Palin supposedly have a suit pending to get the votes counted, as late as Nov. 14.

You can only get Haacke’s VM. Call his office & email NOW!

“I just got back (2pm) from voting in my precinct near the U of Richmond”.

...that would be a pretty liberal area. In Short Pump there were very long lines at 5:30am. I voted at 10am and had just 2 people ahead of me. Good luck!

That’s fine. And our troops are expecting their vote to count, as do I.

Little or no rain in northern VA where the heavier Obama vote is expected as of 2 pm.

To check weather radar link the National Weather Service, NWS Sterling, VA

My computer is extremely sluggish here at FR. Is anyone experience the same frustration?

Just because there were not many voters near U of VA doesn’t mean that Obama didn’t get any. Lots of people voted early, and students are perhaps doing a lot of precinct electioneering at other locations.

Husband and I voted 10/2.

One son voted today at JEB Stuart HS in Falls Church, around noon .. in and out, no problem.

Other son voted at Canterbury Woods ES in Annandale at 6a and said not much of a line, either.

I suspect a high ‘in person absentee’ vote in these parts.

North west Va. (shen. valley) very red area. Experienced poll-worker ladies said they have never seen it so busy. Good news for this area. Of course this is a teeeeensy sample not to be taken as representing whole state.

East of Richmond Dem, black precinct.
Voted about 8 this morning, took about an hour.
I usually vote later so I don’t know if that’s very unusual. I feel it was higher turn out but certainly not phenomenal.
Heard two people , out of maybe 500, mention they were first time voters. So some did show up.
Peaceful, quiet bunch.
