By now, most people have heard about The Associated Press report that Sen. Barack Obama has a distant aunt –- his deceased father’s half-sister -– living in Boston who is an undocumented alien. They may also know that Zeituni Onyango, from Kenya, was denied political asylum by an immigration judge four years ago.
As Josh Micah Marshall at Talking Points Memo reported Saturday, Rep John Conyers (D-Mich), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee wrote an angry letter to Michael Chertoff, secretary of the Dept. of Homeland Security, saying the disclosure, by at least one “federal law enforcement official,” according to The AP, was “very disturbing” and warrants an investigation.
In fact, the disclosure wasn’t just disturbing –- it was either illegal, or it was approved directly by the U.S. attorney general. And, it endangered Onyango and any of her family that continue to live in Kenya.
According to the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, 8 CFR 208.6, it is illegal to disclose that a noncitizen has applied for political asylum, without her explicit consent “or at the discretion of the attorney general.”
The Supreme Court, in United States v. Ray, explained the reason: because the applicant or her family could be subject to retaliation in their home country.

Apparently she was seeking asylum. Was she doing so because of Odingo’s encouragement of violence against the political rival he lost to? If so, a somewhat ironic turn of events. How can a lawyer who knows lots of other lawyers not be able to locate her?

How The Times followed a trail to find Barack Obama’s aunt
The Democrat campaign has implied that the story might have come from Republican sources – “the American people are ... pretty suspicious of things that are dumped in the marketplace 72 hours before a campaign,” said Mr Obama’s chief strategist David Axelrod yesterday.
In fact, the story came from a book that has been read by millions, including just about everyone connected to the Obama campaign.
This triggered a six-week search, one that would lead eventually to Boston and to Aunt Zeituni. Public record searches found traces of O. Onyango Obama, Uncle Omar’s real name, in Boston. A friend and a former landlady said that he now uses the name Obama Onyango.
The Times called the Zeituni Onyango in Boston three times. The first time a woman said that she “went to California”. The second time a woman said: “She died last summer.” The third time a woman said in French that she did not know her at that address. On visiting the housing estate, however, neighbours confirmed that she was indeed the “Auntie Zeituni” in Mr Obama’s book – as she eventually confirmed herself.
Whatever the Democrat campaign may imply, there is nothing suspicious about the story or its timing. The only mystery, perhaps, is how so many people read Mr Obama’s book in the US without wondering what might have happened to the mysterious relative, lost in America.

Very well preserved Manners has basked in the limelight recently, being interviewed by the tabloid English press. He does not speak of Auma. He claims a young Obama came to his stag in England before the marriage. Left quickly when a busty stripper came on. Avoided the heavily drinking raucous mob at the pub.
Auma has full rights to enter the UK. Perhaps Manners could assist?
I did a search of the White Pages for Boston and found two different phone listings for her. One is on Bent Court. The other is on Bowen Street. There is a different number for each listing. The Bent Court listing gives her age as 55-59. An October 31st Boston Herald news article listed her present residence as being on Flaherty Way in South Boston. There was no phone listing for her at that address. It's possible that it's unlisted, and I'm wondering if her active phone number might not be one of the two listed on the site.
Mr. Conyers should be more concerned with his own ethical issues, as well as keeping his wife out of trouble.
The Aunt is Black and her Nephew is a Democrat. Any other conversation is a waste of time and effort.
I bet she already voted for her Nephew anyway.

State Representative Brian P. Wallace, a Democrat who lives a few blocks from Onyango, said he had heard rumors over the summer that Obama had an aunt living in the neighborhood.

Onyango, who is paid a small stipend for working as a health advocate in her housing complex, has shunned attention. Yesterday morning, she ignored a television camera, saying nothing to several reporters as she walked out of her first-floor apartment, handed a duffle bag to the driver of a taxicab, and was driven off.
For three years, she was a volunteer with Experience Corps, a nonprofit that trains adults over 55 to work with children in public schools, said Mary Gunn, the group’s executive director.
In a profile on the Experience Corps website, Onyango is described as a “former computer systems coordinator” who says she wanted to volunteer in the schools because “I felt that I should help the children in my community.”
“I love people and enjoy interacting with them,” Onyango said. “Also, I was idle, and this was a chance to get involved.”
Gunn said Onyango is a wonderful person, but said, “Zeituni wishes for me not to comment, and I want to honor her wish.”
Onyango made clear her desire to stay out of the way of her nephew’s campaign. “We’ll talk after the election,” she said. “Come talk to me after the fifth.”

The court case is a matter of public record and nobody had to leak anything. As for her request for “asylum,” that’s because Obama is the cousin of the brutal thug Odinga, who at the time that Auntie applied for asylum was losing out on his campaign to steal the power in Kenya. He got out of jail, campaigned on pure, violent Marxism and lost the election by 200,000+ votes. Then he unleashed so much violence that he ended up being appointed the equivalent of co-president of Kenya in hopes that he would rein in his mob of followers and win the cooperation of the Islamic party, with which he had signed an agreement to install sharia.
The entire Obama family in Kenya (that is, the huge group of half-siblings, half-aunts and uncles, etc. produced by polygamous Muslim males) is deeply involved in Marxist politics. The judge didn’t give her asylum either because there was no credible threat to her, or because she was on the side of the aggressor.

According to the Boston Globe, her application for housing was approved in 2003 and she was classified as an “eligible asylum seeker” at the time. Her application for permanent status wasn’t denied until the following year.
Apparently public housing in MA doesn’t update status with the INS.

I’d like to know how much that “small stipend” amounts to, and if it covers her living expenses, including her phone and taxi rides. She’s getting money from somewhere else if she can afford multiple donations amounting to $260 for her nephew. I’d also like to know whether she’s declaring that “small stipend” as income for tax purposes, and whatever other federal benefits she receives.

I had read on WND, that not only the lady in Boston was in the United States, but Auma, a relative of Barack,was also in New England . The inference was that the State Department would not release details because of the policy of protecting persons. Persons at risk if they returned to Kenya.
It claimed Auma was "stranded" in New Hampshire. Thus, although she is hard to find, she could be in the U.S. Last seen February 2008. She does have full rights on entry to the United Kingdom. Hardly an dangerous situation, if deported.
A distant aunt? How is an aunt distant? Doesn't Obama have a distant uncle in the Boston area too?
