Plundering the Plumber's Records - Suddenly, the Left isn’t concerned about privacy.
National Review Online ^ | October 31, 2008 | Michelle Malkin

Posted on 10/31/2008 9:14:16 AM PDT by Sons of Union Vets

If Joe the Plumber were Jawad the Suspected Terrorist, civil-liberties activists would stampede the halls of Congress on his behalf. Liberal columnists would hyperventilate over the outrageous invasions of his privacy by Ohio state and local employees. The ACLU would demand the Big Brother snoopers’ heads. And Democratic leaders would convene immediate hearings and parade him around the Beltway as the new poster boy/victim of unlawful domestic spying.

But because peaceful American citizen Joe Wurzelbacher is an outspoken enemy of socialism, rather than an enemy of America, the defenders of privacy have responded to his plight with an impenetrable cone of silence.

After the last presidential debate, during which John McCain invoked Joe the Plumber’s anti-socialism shot heard ‘round the world, several taxpayer-subsidized employees in Ohio immediately rifled through government databases in search of damning information. The Columbus Dispatch identified Helen Jones-Kelley, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, as one of the dirt-diggers. She also happens to support Barack Obama and contributed the maximum amount to his presidential campaign.

On Wednesday, Jones-Kelley admitted that the records checks on Wurzelbacher that she approved were far more extensive than she first acknowledged. In addition to pawing through his child-support papers, the agency “also checked Wurzelbacher in its computer systems to determine whether he was receiving welfare assistance or owed unemployment compensation taxes.”

Jones-Kelley argued that plumbing the plumber’s information was no big deal because the agency always checks up on citizens who come into public light. Democratic Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland quickly pooh-poohed the civil-liberties infringements and denied any nefarious political motives.

If that doesn’t send a chill up your spine, you don’t have a spine.

Michelle is right on target...the left is more concerned about the countries enemies than about their political opposites...in the end it’s bad news for all of us if they are in power.

They respect privacy when terrorists are involved. Otherwise it is OK.

God, America may have sinned, but please do not punish us with Obama!

There is an easy to undertstand lesson here for all Dem voters. Talk about being forewarned! (Clue: Today Joe, tomorrow you.)

One should conclude Brunner’s action is not a criminal matter or she would have been arrested....right?

With all due respect to the Republicans in Ohio, I hope JTP takes the State to the cleaners in a civil suit.

"God, America may have sinned, but please do not punish us with Obama! "

I don't think that God is going to punish the entire country for the sins of the few. It is said that we have to account for our sins individually, not in a lockstep group.

America hasn't sinned, only individuals can sin and then try to pin the blame on America.

I think God leaves our daily lives up to us, and if Obama gets elected, it will be because of the decisions of a bunch of misguided people who promote and vote for him.

To say that "America" has sinned buys into all of the liberal arguments about an "evil America". Not unlike an adolescent who spouts "You don't love me, whaaaa" when they don't get their way.

As long as the left can guilt trip all of us into negative thinking about America, the longer they can lead us around by the hang-downs.

The good that America has done for the world far supercedes any wrongs she's done.

Obama has removed three reporters from his plane. No, the plane wasn’t flying. These reporters were less than enthused about him. In fact, the reporters who were ousted had endorsed the McCain/Palin ticket. They were from the New York Post, Washington Times, and Dallas Morning News. I guess the Obama campaign only embraces freedom of speech when the reporters say the right thing about him.

It’s a constitutional thing, this freedom of speech. It’s one of the most cherished freedoms of the United States. It’s been purchased time and again with the precious blood of American soldiers on fields of battle all around this planet.

It’s a freedom that must be preserved. It ought not to be diminished by the smallmindedness of political power plays.

If this were Osama Bin Laden’s privacy being invaded, you would have heard the outrage from the left. Where’s the ACLU to protect Joe the plumber’s privacy?

The ACLU NEVER, NEVER stands up for freedom of speech unless it is leftist speech. As far as they are concerned, only leftists should be granted Civil Liberties.

And they don’t believe in God-given “inalienable” rights. Instead, the government has a right to take back those rights, unless you are a politically correct leftist.

Only the politically correct have rights.

In fact, the reporters who were ousted had endorsed the McCain/Palin ticket.

The reporters had not endorsed McCain, their newspapers' editorial boards endorsed McCain. It is quite likely that the reporters themselves were democrats. There is usually a big disconnect between the editorial boards of conservative-leaning papers and the staff.

I would say “His people” have sinned, have fallen down in their duties -

destruction of the family
secularization of education
normalization of deviancy and evil
and finally
the deaths of MILLIONS of innocent babies for convenience.

Yes, “His people” are guilty of allowing this to come to pass in our land.

2 Chron 7:14 does not say “everyone” must humble themselves and turn to Him. Just “His people”. WE are responsible.
