We know that the MSM is actively working as the PR department for the Obama campaign and to elect DemoRats across the country at every level so the issue isn't will they do something to try to damage McCain rather what will they do. They tried it against Bush and they are more desperate them ever.
Let's break it down by Print: NT Times, Newsweek, Time, and then all other print media. Broadcast: one lump other than NBC and it's child MSNBC and then the interent: take your pick. Personally I think each type of media will try something and the others will pick it up and run with it.
MSM has been playing dirty tricks every day of this campaign.

They’ll roll out some Vietcong on TV and say that John McCain was never tortured.
I thought they started tonight. They began with positive coverage of Obama, followed by negative stories about the economy. I’m wondering if McCain’s momentum will reverse.
They’ll air a 5 part miniseries on the Keating 5 scandal. The part where McCain is exonerated airs on the 4th. The ominous episode that implies McCain’s guilt airs on the night of the 3rd.
I think it will all backfire but you’re right they are going to try. They’re not about to go gently into that good night.

I wonder why Ollie’s “W” went over like a turd in a punch bowl. That was supposed to be a big “October surprise” for McCain from the Hollyweirdoes.

Let’s see. They’ve brought up McCain comments from 8 years ago (such as referring to the Vietnamese who tortured the POWs as gooks), his first marriage, his military career, his hell raising days at Annapolis, and his medical history (endlessly).
I’m not sure what else they can come up with, but no doubt they’ll find something.
The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric reported that Obama is up in the latest poll by 11 points, 52% to 41%. What the heck? I thought the polls were tightening up.

They are going HARDCORE BANDWAGON EFFECT to offset the empty suit the media invented.
They are. They used the poll with the widest spread.
If Obama were truly ahead by even 10% he would not spent millions for 30 minute political messages (infomercials). Most people have the attention span of gnats. Wasted air time is still wasted air time.

I notice Obama spent time in Penn. and Florida. I thought Penn. especially was locked up for him, according to the polls.
I bet that Obama’s internal polls are telling him that there is trouble in Penn. where people cling to guns and religion. A lot of the guns and religion people voted for Hillary in the primary. I checked primary results by county in PA, and saw that Hillary got over 80% of the primary vote in a number of PA counties. Obama has to run up in big margin in Philadelphia to offset strong McCain support elsewhere in the state.
It reminded me of the 2000 race when the "snews" media released the "story" that George W. Bush had a DUI 20 years ago (hoping to fend off religious conservatives) the weekend just before the election.
It would appear, that the media have decided that the weekend is just way too much time to have the McCain camp follow up with the explanation to the story, no matter what it is, so they'll wait until less than 24 hours before the election.
How further down the sewer can the vermin slither?

With these wild gyrations, I seriously have to wonder if there are not Obama “plants” in many or all of the polls, whose job is to quietly tweak the numbers with the above principle in mind. How hard would it be to get a job as a grunt poller?

I’m beginning to wonder if the Weather Underground ever disbanded...With this election cycle, it appears as if the offspring of the original members, and the millions of college students they have influenced have picked up the code of the Weather Underground almost by osmosis...I look around and see a lawless, no holds barred, godless, secular society willing to go to great lengths to undermine anything that is good...Let’s show them on Nov 4th what is good.

If they do it there won’t be much time to respond and guess what the media while they will let him respond they will wrap the charges around both sides of the explanation or denial and make the public think it’s real. Lots of people will buy it.
