Murder suspect Amanda Knox has revealed she is backing Barack Obama in next week's presidential election.
Knox, 21, who styled herself Foxy Knoxy, revealed her political allegiances after being visited by Italian MP Enrico Gasbarra.
She told him: 'I wanted to go home so that I could vote for Obama. I think I hoped too much. I really thought I would be getting out of here.'
Knox has been denied house arrest as she waits for her trial over the murder of British student Meredith Kercher.
After receiving the fax ordering her to stay in jail until the trial begins, she told a guard: 'I want to be alone with my suffering.'
Judge Paolo Micheli, who earlier this week jailed drifter Rudy Guede, 21, for 30 years for his part in Meredith's brutal murder, ruled out the request for 'fear of flight' and 'further crimes'.
Meredith, 21, was found semi-naked and with her throat slashed in the bedroom of her house she shared with American flatmate Knox, last November.
Knox's former boyfriend computer studies graduate Raffaele Sollecito, 24, has also been charged with murder and his application for arrest has also been turned down.
Knox shares her cell at Capanne jail with another inmate called Rosa who is serving life for murder but is allowed to nurse her small child with the American helping out.
She told Mr Gasbarra: 'If I was in America I would vote Obama because he is on the side of the weak, we are all for him, even my mother.
