A state agency has revealed that its checks of computer systems for potential information on "Joe the Plumber" were more extensive than it first acknowledged.
Helen Jones-Kelley, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, disclosed today that computer inquiries on Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher were not restricted to a child-support system.
The agency also checked Wurzelbacher in its computer systems to determine whether he was receiving welfare assistance or owed unemployment compensation taxes, she wrote.
Jones-Kelley made the revelations in a letter to Ohio Senate President Bill M. Harris, R-Ashland, who demanded answers on why state officials checked out Wurzelbacher. Harris could not be reached for comment.
The checks were run after the news media reported that Wurzelbacher was considering buying a plumbing business with more than $250,000 in annual income, Jones-Kelley wrote.
"Given our understanding that Mr. Wurzelbacher had publicly indicated that he had the means to purchase a substantial business enterprise, ODJFS, consistent with past departmental practice, checked confidential databases ," she wrote.
"Not surprisingly, when a person behind in child support payments or receiving public assistance is receiving significant media attention which suggests that the person appears to have available financial resources, the Department risks justifiable criticism if it fails to take note and respond," Jones-Kelley wrote.

Another reason the loss of the US Attorneys offices to the democrats will be a horrible thing in most states. There will be no one to control the democrats and their wrongdoing.

What bugs me the most about this entire mess is that poor Joe did not search out BO, rather, BO came to his neighborhood and injected himself into the scene. Joe was there, minding his own business, and when BO offered him the chance, asked a question. Joe has been hounded and spied on and ridiculed ever since. I suspect that was the last time BO has done a walkabout without his handlers right there managing the script.

Joe the Plumber needs to sue Jones-Kelly in Civil court, and if there is any objective prosecutor in the state she will also be charged criminally.

This is exactly why the government should never be allowed to keep databases on people, or put up surveillance cameras on the streets and other public places.
Americans have a RIGHT to privacy, not a ‘oh as long as you don’t speak up we’ll ignore you’ to privacy.

Putting up a "no solicitation" sign won't cut it. You also have to make sure you have no public utilities on your property (phone, cable, water, sewer, electricity) because having such things is an invitation to inspection by the company's agents.
Presuming you did everything right and made sure you were issuing no invitations, either overtly or covertly, I suppose you could bounce Obama's butt right down your steps into the streets and the SS would tip their hats and say "g'day".

BTW, you aren't even allowed to threaten to kill a political party campaign worker who stops by your house and knocks on the door. You shouldn't attempt to intimidate them either.

Most likely there was no single person behind the unethical/illegal checks in state data bases. This is worse news that it sounds. The dems have instilled a culture of "go after the enemy" in their party. It is not just the leaders of the party, like Gov. Ted Strickland, but reaches down to the lowest level government workers with access to sensitive data.
A state employee used state computers for unethical/illegal purposes. What should Gov. Strickland's response be? One would hope that he would say this is wrong, the employee will be disciplined and that policies will be reviewed. Rather, his response is a very meek, "No harm, no foul."
This is the scary part.
And apparently he did NOT owe back child support, if I read the banner on the bottom of FOX news report tonight correctly.
