Sarah Palin's rally Monday in Fredericksburg, Va., began with a prayer. "Thank you for all you have given us," intoned Susan Stimpson, chairwoman of the county Republican Party. If she had really wanted to help, though, she would have prayed the polls are wrong.
A new Washington Post/ABC poll released Monday put Barack Obama up eight points in Virginia, one for every day left in the election. His advantage is even stronger in Northern Virginia, where he outpolls McCain 2-to-1. In the southwest, which a McCain adviser recently called "real Virginia," McCain is still leading. He's also up among veterans and people who go to church at least once a week. But overall, the state looks dangerously close to secedingthis time from the South.
You wouldn't know it from McCain's schedule. He and Palin have logged a total of four visits to Virginia in the last month. Three of them happened yesterdayfirst in the Washington exurb of Leesburg (enemy territory, according to the polls), then in the northern-ish town of Fredericksburg ("Don't call us north," pleaded a McCain supporter. "Please don't call us north"), and finally Salem, a town of 24,000 southwest of Richmond. And it wasn't McCain doing the visitingit was Palin, solo.
It's no surprise the McCain campaign dispatched Palin, rather than McCain himself, to woo Virginia. She's been attracting bigger crowdsFredericksburg drew an estimated 6,000 to the outdoor Hurkamp Park, and at least 10,000 people filled the Salem Civic Center, home of the Salem Avalanche. She's also better-suited to execute the strategy that's most likely to save McCain. The state's blueward swing owes much to demographic shifts, as immigrants and yuppies swell Northern Virginia's_exurbs. Nor can McCain hope to match Obama's organization. The campaign's Hail Mary strategy, therefore, appears to be based on mobilizing the conservative base.

NEWSMAX.com: "EXPECT FEWER LIBERTIES IF OBAMA WINS" by David Limbaugh (COMMENTARY SNIPPET: "I am sincerely worried that if Obama wins, the checks and balances incorporated into our Constitution may not be enough to prevent a radical and irreversible diminution of our individual liberties because a confluence of factors has emerged to create a climate conducive to fundamental change. These are the factors:") (October 28, 2008, 8:40 am)

Yeah, I have a feeling we are all going to go primitive soon.
Vet, there were a lot of lefty articles like this one wriiten today. The premise being that Gov. Palin is rallying the base, and that it shows how she will be a force in 2012. They all tick me off in the following way. Even the lefties now have to admit that Gov. Palin is a force, but we shouldn’t have to wait until 2012, she can be a force now. But, McCain people have to get her to a broader audience- they have to get her on national tv.
"Northern Virginia is for Commie Lovers?"
Like Couric?
That isn't surprising. Check this one out:

No, just the opposite. She has to have a national presidential address on prime time- where she will draw another record breaking crowd- where she can get McCain’s message out unfiltered- and he will get a bump in the polls just like after her convention speech and after her debate with Biden——She is the biggest draw in the nation-not even liberals deny that-the McCain Camp should use it, while they have the chance.
I was in Virginia Wednesday thru Saturday. Went to Williamsburg (abutting William and Mary University) then to Monticello and thence to Penn State at State College. Returned to NJ via PA TPK.
The kind of lead being touted above for the Marxist Onada in Virginia would suggest there is a big buzz for him there—especially NE Virginia. I did not see it demonstrated by Messiah bumper stickers, lawn signs, billboards, T-shirts, or shirt buttons.
Ditto for PA—at least as far as south central to eastern PA is concerned. My son lives in Lehigh Valley, PA. No Maxist Onada buzz there either.
So we pubbies just have to hold on to our collective butts and get out and vote. If you can, volunteer to take people to the polls.
Completely agree. Sarah Palin is magnetic. She’s the reason McCain has any chance. She may still carry him across the finish line. Thank God for Sarah Palin. Love her!
