On the release of an October 22 Pew Research Center survey that found 70% of Americans think the media favors Senator Obama over Senator McCain, Boycott The New York Times editor Don Feder noted that media bias reached new lows in this election.
As bad as The New York Times has been before, its nothing compared to the way the paper has managed, manipulated and mangled coverage of the 2008 campaign, Feder observed. Not a day goes by that The Times doesnt misrepresent John McCain, ridicule Sarah Palin, refuse to report a revelation that reflects badly on the Obama-Biden campaign, or rationalize Obamas radical past.
The Pew study found that only 9% of voters think the media favors John McCain, in contrast to 70% who believe journalists favor Barack Obama. At this point in the 2004 campaign, a Pew survey found that 50% of Americans thought the press favored John Kerry, compared with 22% who thought it preferred George W. Bush.
A study of media coverage of the candidates in the six weeks following the nominating conventions, by the Project for Excellence in Journalism, showed four times as many negative stories about McCain as about Obama.
Feder further notes that according to a Rasmussen report earlier this year, only 24% of Americans have a favorable opinion of The New York Times, making the paper almost as popular as trial lawyers.
Feder calls Times editorial page editor Andrew Rosenthals recent claim in a speech to the Association of National Advertisers that the paper aims to ensure opinion and news are kept separate stand-up comedy at its most hilarious.

Boycott?!? But what will I do for house-training our puppy?
Just heard on the radio that the Christian Science Monitor would stop publishing a paper next spring and go all electronic.
Sure, personally, I chose not to read the Times. I don't like the regimentation of a boycott. It is too reminiscent of radical leftist and labor tactics. However each of us chooses what media we can support by buying or watching.
No federal bailout of the ole grey mare.
What? I’ve been boycotting the NYT since 1963!
My father died in 1967 and I was 20. I bought a subscription to the NYT shortly thereafter. After 5 years, including a stint in the USMC, I moved to NYC where I attended Columbia. After graduation, I attended and graduated from Harvard Business School. I maintained my subscription with the NYT until late last year. They were bad even in the late 60’s but have deteriorated to such a low class that I cannot understand why anyone reads it. Actually, I am disappointed that the MSM has abandoned any scence of independence but phuk them and I hope they all go broke. Semper Fi.
“Boycott” in the original sense meant to shun someone. Suggest we shun the Times’ reporters, editors, and publishers.
“I am disappointed that the MSM has abandoned any scence of independence but phuk them and I hope they all go broke. “
The NYTimes is being very obliging. Their circulation is way way down, and their stock has been downgraded to “junk” status last week.
The NYT is my hometown paper, and I have been reading it since HS. I refuse to buy it now, but read the local articales, cultural coverage and food pages online or for free at Starbucks. Even my Grandmother, aged 101 has cancelled her subscription.
I haven’t read the NYT in years. I even cancelled my free e-mail news alerts thingie from them.
It amazes me that 30% don’t realize the MSM is RAT-biased. Talk about real idiots.
I see about 10 O commercials for one M commercial, locally. I mentioned it to a friend and he said that the more money you have, the more commercials you can air. Did I miss something? I thought they were to be given “equal time.”
“Equal time”?? No, they pay for commercials. Obama broke his promise to only accept government campaign money to take advantage of the millions of idiots giving him money.
Ah. Thanks for clarifying.
He who has the money makes the rules. I hope his money can’t buy him the love of the US of A.
