AOL Online Straw Poll Showing Significant Swing to McCain/Palin Over Past 3 Weeks!
AOL ^ | 10/28/2008 | N/A

Posted on 10/28/2008 10:27:37 AM PDT by RogerWilko

Okay... I KNOW this is ONLY an online poll, BUT...

They run the poll for a week at a time and over the past 3 weeks, the votes have been going more and more towards McCain/Palin. Now even though this isn't a scientific poll, and McCain/Palin has been winning it every week, the margin keeps getting bigger.

I didn't see when they first started, but 3 weeks ago McCain won 54-43%.

Last week he won 56-42%!

Last week at this same time, he was winning about 60-38%, and today as of 10:20 P.S.T. he is winning 68%-30%! If he continues on the current trend, he probably end up NO WORSE than 62-63% when they close the poll on Friday morning!

(Excerpt) Read more at news.aol.com ...

TOPICS: Miscellaneous; Politics/Elections; Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: aol; mccain; palin; poll
Doesn't this show something??!! It would definitely be a LOT worse if it was showing NOBAMA winning! This has GOT to be good news, no matter how you look at it.

I thought people needed to see this, just for a pick-me-upper!

There’s a couple hundred thousand people who vote in this thing. I’ve been tracking it for several months and it has consistently had McCain ahead.

I have been following this straw poll, almost from the start and it remains fairly consistent with usually a 15-20% spread in favor of McCain.

I have no idea the accuracy of it, but it is interesting.

well, I would say this for the AOL on line poll.

It is likely all Americans, and most are probably only voting once.

That makes it way different from most online polls.

The poll numbers for Oklahoma have been matching the poll numbers by a local pollster who is very accurate in polling. When I saw that, I was shocked!

It’s tighter now than it has been. It’s been like 63-37 for a long time with every state and DC red. A couple of weeks ago it was 55/45 and 0 was winning Illinois, VT and DC

Grasping at Straws poll?

Let's HOPE not! It'd be GREAT if these were real numbers, but the most significant thing is the shift in the percentages.

If you can equate the percentage shift to what real voters are going to do next week, that is a GOOD thing! If it were trending towards NOBAMA, I'd be VERY worried!

. . . most are probably only voting once.

I have five AOL screen names/email addresses. Until a few weeks ago I was able to cast a vote using each name (5 votes) but not anymore.

Now if I cast a vote using one name, then switch to another, it tells me I've already voted.

I think AOL has the most honest poll of all and John McCAin has consistantly been the winner.

I noticed the same “trend” in this as you say. For comparison I think that Bush won the last one of these before the 2004 election by 20%. Now this obviously means the AOL users are more skewed toward our side, but Bush did win of course. And right now McCain is doing better than even that 20% gap that Bush had. And these are real AOL users who can only vote once using their screen name, so no vote as many times as you want like the online snap polls on MSNBC, CNN etc.

This AOL poll can’t be any less accurate then the polls manufactured by the liberal media. The AOL poll has tens of thousands of participants who have to sign in and register to cast a vote. We’ll see which one is right.

I’ve been watching this for a couple of months now. I tried the other day to find where the results are archived and cannot find it, but I do know when I started watchng it Ohio, Iowa, PA and the entire NE was all Blue and I’ve watched a steady change to red in all but Hawaii and DC.... We will need a 60% turnout for McCain to overcome all the Obama cheating going on.

and in 2004 AOL was not using their current method, back then they did cut you of through your cookies, but we all know you can clear cookies and vote again, sometime after the convention AOL took down the straw poll and changed it to include a email address and user ID to vote... Ever since they did that McCain has been doing consistently better than Obama in the poll.

One thing about an online poll (that at least has some way of making sure only 1 vote per person as this seems to) is that people don’t tend to lie when voting on the computer, they lie when talking to an actual person. I think an online poll like this may be somewhat accurate because it resembles a voting booth situation where you are in private with noone to judge you. With that said, I wonder how many of those voting in this type of poll are likely voters.

I'm definitely not taking the numbers at face value.

I'm just pointing to the trend. It's NOT trending towards NOBAMA by any means, which would hopefully show people are changing their tunes now.

I don't know, but this poll fascinates me. Equally as fascinating is to take a couple of minutes and click on each state to see the spread. Some are VERY close..... like Illinois -- which makes sense -- a couple of weeks ago Obama led Illinois but it was only a couple of points, now it has swung the other direction.

Do I think McCain will win Illinois? NO!!!!! but I think it may well be he loses with Daley's help and not real votes... and the same thing may apply in other states as well. A freind reported he went to vote outside Denver yesterday and the person in front was told he had already voted; said the guy got very upset and said he absolutely did NOT vote and more he didn't ask for absentee and demanded to know who voted for him, the upshot was they wiped out the other vote (for Obama) and let him go in the booth to vote. My friend said he and his wife asked for absentee and never received them so went down to early vote.

Even California has McCain UP 63-35 on this poll with almost 9,200 votes so far. They just announced a poll on one of our T.V. local stations yesterday with EXACTLY the opposite results!

I don’t think CA is going McCain, but you’ve got to wonder how there can be such a HUGE discrepancy. I’ll bet McCain will be within 10 points. If actual won this state, I’d fall out of my chair!

There’s just TOO many fruits and nuts on the loose in these here parts!

This has GOT to be good news, no matter how you look at it.

The way I look at it, AOL has a heavy left of center customer base, the sample size is huge and covers the whole US, and the customers have no incentive to lie on the poll.

It shows the mainstream media and pollsters are lying their butts off, trying to discourage McCain/Palin voters. It isn't working.

For anyone who might be interested (saganite need not respond)...

The AOL straw JUST ended and it finished the week with the best results so far, which no matter how you look at it...

It can’t be bad news!

Every poll had close to a quarter of a million votes.

Results:

2 weeks ago - McCain/Palin - 54 ... NOBAMA - 43
1 week ago - McCain/Palin - 56 ... NOBAMA - 42
Today - McCain/Palin - 59 ... NOBAMA - 39

I realize these won’t be the real numbers (or will they??!!), but just think how we’d feel if the results were switched!

He also got 531 EV and NOBAMA got 7! HAH!! That’d be nice, wouldn’t it? Hawaii and DC.
