Twenty-five residents of a Gainesville neighborhood woke up this morning to discover their homes had been spray-painted with an obscene comment about the 2008 presidential race. Several businesses were hit as well.
“This is clear voter intimidation,” Corey A. Stewart, At-Large Chairman of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, said. “The residents targeted by these hoodlums all had McCain for President yard signs in their front yards.”
“Having your home defaced with obscenity because of political beliefs is a hate crime” Stewart said, “This is terrorizing the community.”

I did see this on the local news last night but have not seen it mentioned on the national news.
I am thinking this past weekend there was a huge coordinated efforts to target McCain supporters in Northern Virginia. Anecdotal evidence, but so many people I know have had their yard signs stolen this weekend, including myself - for the THIRD TIME. I am wondering if police reports are showing this as widespread throughout NOVA.

Virginia Oaks is one of the nicest established communities in Gainesville. It is on a golf course and overlooks Lake Manassas.
I don’t think we should jump to conclusions about who did this. However, if it becomes clear that, for whatever reason, supporting a candidate who happens to be black leads to vandalism and riots, things just got set back about 100 years.
There’s no doubt there will be buyer’s remorse. Good people who voted to nominate Obama in good faith (though I vehemently disagree with them, obviously), never thinking they might be setting the stage for something very, very ugly and dangerous if he loses.
I certainly never thought it would really come to this.
