A McCain campaign volunteer made up a story of being robbed, pinned to the ground and having the letter "B" scratched on her face in a politically inspired attack, police said Friday.
Ashley Todd, 20-year-old college student from College Station, Texas, admitted Friday that the story was false and was being charged with making a false report to police, said Maurita Bryant, the assistant chief of the police department's investigations division. Police doubted her story from the start, Bryant said.

I am more intrigued now, because the story can take two paths to resolution and explanation, regardless of whether she is a nut or not.
First possibility: the story disappears from the news. What this would suggest I will let the readers decide.
Second possibility, the "victim" is actually a McCain supported, and we will hear it repeated ad nauseam until election day.

Of course only someone who swallows this new version of the story whole at this point would jump at the opportunity to say that...
This story was an ugly turn of events regardless of what the true story was. Her actions, while not part of party plans, still reflect poorly on the GOP and McCain and McCain supporters.
But rather than "move on" the media, which hyped this case alone, now stands to say "ah ha" and play the other side (instead of a Democrat "attack" now it can be reported as a Republican "attack"/"dirty trick").
As it stood with it being an ugly situation regardless, at least we can take comfort that her wounds were self-inflicted and not the result of someone's zealotry. Too bad the other incidents that the media is ignoring (and that they ignored in 2004, this is not a racial issue) don't get the same amount of exposure.

Timeline and what the suspect did after the alleged event are killer. The devil is in the details. Story inconsistencies and what she did after the event did her in.
I can hear it now, "You get mugged, kicked, cut, attacked and you wait 45 minutes to call the cops and report this"? After all this "You decide to go to visit a friend"?
My question is, how did she get the black eye? Was it self inflicted, or did the friend do it? Or was it a makeup job?

I don’t believe people would punch or scratch their face up, especially a women. And the position of the “b” tells me she had assistance. While I would believe tha someone who was hurt would run crying to a friend before they called police especially being scared in a strange place and may act irrationally, I am at a lost why someone would make this up. Surely she had a reason to recant or to make up and we will probably never know. If it is made up, she needs be made to see a shrink as part of her sentence.

What’s more, the media is pointing out that it was a white woman who alledged her attacker was a black male.
The media NEVER gives the races of the perp or victim in other cases (with very rare exception).
The radio news now has taken to saying “go to our website for a police drawing of the suspect” rather than giving ANY description when there is a hunt for someone.
I recall in 2000 when a Democrat on staff mailed the Gore Campaign a stolen video of Bush rehearsing for his televised debate. She did not act on orders from the Gore campaign, her actions were independent of the campaign and her assistance was rejected (they turned the tape over to the authorities).
But just because someone works in your campaign office, does not mean that they agree with your politics.
