Palin Supports McCain’s Plan for Amnesty for ILLEGALS

Palin addresses issues on television interview

Republican Vice Presidential candidate and Alaska governor Sarah Palin addressed issues yesterday relating to Latin America, including Hugo Chavez and illegal immigration, in her first interview with a Spanish-language network. The interview began with Univision anchor, Jorge Ramos asking Palin to clarify recent statements she and Republican Presidential candidate John McCain have made, characterising Senator Barack Obama’s tax proposals as “socialist”. Palin denied ever having called Obama a socialist directly.

The interview quickly turned to US nemesis, leftist Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who has repeatedly claimed the US is planning to attack Venezuela. However, Palin said military action was a last resort. “We hate war. We want peace. “We want through negotiation and sanctions if need be to put pressure on a dictator like Hugo Chavez, to let them see that they will not mess around with America the way that they want to,” she said.

The governor also addressed illegal immigration, saying she and McCain supported a two-pronged approach of securing the border and then working with undocumented workers already in the US.

“There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant - there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants.

“We - our policy - John McCain has been so clear with his policy and it makes a lot of sense too.

“We secure our borders first. But then with a comprehensive approach we must deal humanely with those who are here, and we must allow the steps to be taken to protect the families of those who are here, maybe as illegal immigrants today,” she said.

McCain has made an effort to reach out to Latino voters, a constituency that could prove key in swing states in November’s election. Latino support for the Republican Party ebbed earlier this year following a bruising battle over illegal immigration. - Reuters

Don’t everyone get their panties in a wad — As VP, she has to support the policies of the Prez candidate — that’s how it works.

If she is running for Prez, her own policy on illegal immigration may be completely different. We’ll have to wait and see.

She and Bob Barr have the same position.

Governor, let me ask you about immigration. How many undocumented immigrants are there in Alaska?
I don’t know, I don’t know. That’s a good question.

As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported?

There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant -there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants- not only economically is that just an impossibility but that’s not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.

Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants?

No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They’ve got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.

To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?

I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

And the last question would be about politics. You only have two more weeks left...
Yes

McCain does not call it amnesty either. Nor does Bush, or Kennedy, or Pelosi or Reid.

They call it "comprehensive immigration reform". Remember?

“We secure our borders first. But then with a comprehensive approach we must deal humanely with those who are here, and we must allow the steps to be taken to protect the families of those who are here, maybe as illegal immigrants today,”

To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?

"I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country."

That's called McCain-speak.

At this point in the election, you say whatever it takes to get votes or stop loosing them. If McCain/Palin felt it was time to try and stop the bleeding in this segment of voters, let them say whatever it takes. Maybe if Duncan had better insight on how to walk the tight-rope, he could be our candidate today. I hope he's watching, paying attention and maybe learning something from all of this. McCain knows from what happened in the Senate over a year ago how we all feel about immigration. He even publicly admitted it after the bill failed. Those on the other side of aisle crawled back under their rocks, including Obama. This is not the time to start picking at this scab!

Nope. We expected Gov. Palin to endorse a totalitarian police state, aimed at illegals only, which would dissolve itself as soon as they were all deported. Easy.

Dude, don't be so quick to throw her under the bus on this. Remember, she is NOT at the top of the ticket and HAS to toe McCain's line, like it or not.

Also, like it or not, she has to remain in lock step with him on these types of issues for the time being to avoid giving the MSM any more ammunition with which to pummel them. If Hunter were McCain's VP choice, he'd have to do the same. Any smart politician would. So, I'll give her a pass on this, considering the extremely hostile media she's having to confront.

I'm almost 100% positive that she does not agree with McCain on illegal amnesty despite what she says here, and there is evidence that she's getting somewhat frustrated with her new boss.

Just a thought: If we did round up all the illegals and send them back to Mexico, what would be the impact on the mortgages they all hold in the American banking system? I’m assuming that not ALL of them have defaulted yet.

It would be nice to say that the banks should just EAT the bad loans they should have resisted giving, but we all know that our “super hero” government would “feel” the need to step in and “rescue”.

What would be the possibility of receiving a check from the Mexican government for every mortgage holder we send back?

We are in quite the pickle aren’t we?

If you want to hand it to Obama, be my guest.

Bottom line, main street America doesn't have the stomach for what it would take to forcibly dislodge 12 million people from this Country. Frankly, it would scare the hell out of people and is a non-starter.

Sarah's position is the best of a bad lot as it stands right now. There's a ton of wiggle room in the answer, she said nothing about employer penalties or anything like that.

Chill. Vote McCain on 11/4 and we can deal with the rest later, just like we did with Bush.
