Palin and CNN [Byron York]
A bit more on CNN's "quote" from National Review in its story on Sarah Palin. In the CNN interview with Palin, aired today, reporter Drew Griffin said to Palin:
GRIFFIN: Governor, you've been mocked in the press, the press has been pretty hard on you, the Democrats have been pretty hard on you, but also some conservatives have been pretty hard on you as well. The National Review had a story saying that, you know, I can't tell if Sarah Palin is incompetent, stupid, unqualified, corrupt or all of the above.
PALIN: Who wrote that one?
GRIFFIN: That was in the National Review. I don't have the author.
PALIN: I'd like to talk to that person.
GRIFFIN: But they were talking about the fact that your experience as governor is not getting out. Do you feel trapped in this campaign, that your message is not getting out, and if so who do you blame?
Actually, no one wrote the "quote" that Griffin read to Palin. But I began a recent magazine piece (unfortunately not available on the web, but hopefully coming soon) on Palin this way:
Watching press coverage of the Republican candidate for vice president, it's sometimes hard to decide whether Sarah Palin is incompetent, stupid, unqualified, corrupt, backward, or or, well, all of the above. Palin, the governor of Alaska, has faced more criticism than any vice-presidential candidate since 1988, when Democrats and the press tore into Dan Quayle. In fact, Palin may have it even worse than Quayle, since she's taking flak not only from Democrats and the press but from some conservative opinion leaders as well.
After John McCain unexpectedly chose Palin as his running mate, reporters raced to Alaska to look into her family life, including her teenage daughter's pregnancy; into her per diem expense requests; into her controversial firing of the state's public-safety commissioner; into her husband's role as informal adviser; into the gifts she received; and into much more. Those investigations have yielded hundreds of stories. But Palin's time in the governor's office hasn't been all, or even mostly, family drama and minor controversy. She was also, lest we forget, the state's chief executive. So, what did she do every day? How deeply involved was she in the workings of government? What were her priorities?
And also: Before Palin moved into the governor's office, she was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, population 7,028. How did she adjust to a big new job? Was she up to it? What was her learning curve? Discovering how she made that transition could tell us how she might handle becoming vice president.
Yes, there are legitimate concerns about Palin's lack of experience. Who wouldn't, at the very least, wish that she had more time in the governor's office on her résumé? But a look at Palin's 20 months in power, along with interviews with people who worked with her, shows her to be a serious executive, a governor who picked important things to do and got them done and who didn't just stumble into an 80 percent job-approval rating.
So my question to Griffin, and perhaps to his producer, is: Do you think you accurately portrayed the story you cited in National Review?
I can’t believe nobody ever questions Barack Hussein Obama’s lack of experience and ZERO leadership qualities/experience.
They have been getting away with it fine so far.
Unfortunately, they are getting away with that kind of nonsense.
To take a quote so completely out of context - he was mocking media coverage of Palin! - and make it seem like the National Review is dumping on her is just way beyond fair.
“Do they really believe they can get away this kind of nonsense?”
I don’t know, maybe they can’t read very well.
As to the question of her qualifications, I don’t get it. It isn’t as if Palin supporters say she’s the most qualified person on the planet to be VP. The truth is, there aren’t any qualifications to being VP. It’s a nothing job. It exists, basically, to give the presidential candidate votes.
They only get away with it if one buys into it. They say one thing, I believe the opposite. Simple and safe.
Yes. They are indifferent as to their own credibility, and they thrive on spreading falsehood.
See also, Associated Press, CBS, NBC, CBS, NYT, LA Times, and on and on and on.
Although it is fun when they get caught is something this blatant. It's an opportunity to laugh at them for their deliberate fabrication of "news."
What's the frequency, Wolf? What's the frequency, Campbell? What's the frequency, Drew? Buncha lying hacks, the whole lot of 'em! LOL.
Hey Byron, in case you haven't noticed the MSM and the left have brought brass knuckles, switch blades and zip gus to the fight. Your tepid response ain't gonna get the job done.
What you should do is get on the phone and demand time to rebut the smear. Got the balls Byron?
Another reason John McCain get the cold shoulder.
Yep, the media was really kind to McCain until the Republican Convention took place. I knew it was going to turn out that way.
NO! I won't have that! That's a terrible thing to say about scum! What did scum ever do to deserve being compared to the Dinosaur Media Troglodytes?
“I cant believe nobody ever questions Barack Hussein Obamas lack of experience and ZERO leadership qualities/experience.”
But he’s Black, graduated from Harvard, and can talk down to the masses. It doesn’t take more than that to be crowned Emperor by the clueless voters of the US.
Those that have insulted the Lady will be remembered.
This woman could hold her own any where and I would give anything to see a rematch between her and katie.
Anyone who can speak as quickly and as meaninful as her without a TelePrompter or script is quick enough and sensible enough to lead this country.

Yes they will!!!!

CNN will offer a correction at about 3:12AM tomorrow morning.
Well I hope someone tells her soon that the VP doesn’t work in the Senate and get right in there and make policy changes, like she said yesterday.
Just imagine a media that was not corrupt, or a media that was serious and fair, or even better, a media that could give Republicans a 10-15% lead.
Why the hell do they keep taking pictures of her legs. They are nice legs. Dont get me wrong, haha. But it looks to me like they are trying to diminish her to nothing but a shallow figure.
“These people are SCUM. Do they really believe they can get away this kind of nonsense?”
Um, yes, because (if you believe the polls) they ARE with a majority of the voting electorate...
:)
I once had a friendly newspaper take a quote of mine out of context, (concerning a congressional testimony I gave about communists controlling the anti-Vietnam movement)so I went into their news room and said out loud.
“Who do I see about suing for libel and slander?”
Quiet throughout, then a panicked manager came over to try and save the day. The next story was almost as bad and it was written by someone Washington and conservatives held up to be a decent writer.
[Everything I said in my testimony has stood the test of time and it even included Weathermen Bill Ayers, Diana Oughton and Ted Gold, the latter who blew themselves up in the March 1970 bombfactory explosion in New york).
Screw that: Sue the bastards and make sure you let the public know what it is about.
Byron York - love your writings, esp. on the Mob (LIUNA) and the CLintons. I worked on that case and Reno and company put in the fix. She quashed a 200+ item indictment instead of seizing the union and its corrupt Mafia people and assets. Too much money went to the Clintons and the Democrats for it to come out during a trial.
Sue the bastards. Show them no mercy.
This makes me sick. I hope byron yorkie called somebody............
“But a look at Palin’s 20 months in power..”
Just why writers can’t resist plain language baffles me. I happen to know Byron, and consider him a good reporter and writer, but why in God’s name couldn’t he have substituted “in office, for in power?” The answer is, that’s the way national reporters choose to gild the lily, and Byron wants to play with the big dogs. More power to him, but he can’t have it both ways.
I read the piece before that interview and it was misrepresented. Griffin might not have known that, even if it’s his job. But certainly the person who fed him the quote knew.
That isn’t to say NRO hasn’t had some of it’s contributors take shots at her. It has, and the organization doesn’t deserve a benefit of the doubt clause from Palin as a result. Limbaugh? Yes, NRO, nooo...
All the same, this wasn’t one of those times. Given the press has been taking and running with quotes lately from NRO implying different meaning to them I will question why they haven’t developed a pre-emptive strategy for dealing with it by this time.
No matter what happens in this election Sarah Palin has an incredible future with the GOP. She has electrified the base and given the McCain campaign something it desperately needed whether he knew it or not. She is an outstanding politician and I so hope they win.
Byron, you teed it up for them. Sorry - bad writing. NR folks live in a bubble.
Because they couldn't bear the thought of taking pictures of Hillery's legs.
Because they couldn't bear the thought of taking pictures of Hillery's legs.
WRONG... They were going to throw EVERYONE under the bus... EVERYONE that got in the way of ZeroH. Including the Clintons.
How about that for diversity?
This piece of scum should be fired!
I hate to say this, but Byron’s original story gave credence to the claims that were about to be made, or were being made in the liberal media. He cooperated with the propaganda strategy... unwittingly or knowingly... i don’t know.
It doesn’t matter: Byron York was a participant. I can’t see how he was a bystander in this case.
