Police in suburban Chicago have arrested a Muslim college student for allegedly faking a racist attack by a masked gunman, an attack police now say never happened.
Earlier this month, Safia Jilani, 19, was found by friends in the basement bathroom of the Schaible science building of Elmhurst College, claiming she was clubbed with a gun by a masked assailant. Anti-Muslim epithets were found scrawled on a nearby mirror, similar to a hate-filled graffiti that had been found on Jilani's locker only a week earlier.
The college locked down the campus after the alleged attack and, according to the Chicago Tribune, later released an advisory warning students of a 5-foot, 8-inch, white male attacker guilty of committing a "hate crime."
According to a joint statement just released from Elmhurst Police, the college and the state's attorney's office, however, there was no gunman, and the attack was staged.

The one consistency here is that the incident was committed on a college campus, just like most fake hate crimes.

A week after the incident roiled the small college, Elmhurst Police Chief Steve Neubauer said officers had cited Safia Z. Jilani, 19, of Oak Brook, on a single count of filing a false police report. Filing a false police report is a Class 4 felony, punishable by one to three years in prison.
The announcement -- made jointly by Elmhurst Police, the college and the DuPage County state's attorneys office -- concluded there was no merit to her complaint.
"The totality of all the evidence, and interviews with staff and students at the college ... concluded that this incident never happened," Neubauer said in a phone interview.
Jilani's report followed several weeks of tension on campus that began when some students allegedly called anti-Muslim slurs at students protesting the treatment of U.S. captives at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp.
As officials at the private college affiliated with the United Church of Christ last Friday called the incident a hate crime, hundreds of students rallied to show solidarity with their Muslim peers, who constitute about 25 of the school's 3,300 students.
The college beefed up security, including foot and car patrols by Elmhurst police, and campus security offered to escort Muslim students around the campus.

The set-up is the same as across the fruited plain.....town is conservative, campus is liberal sprinkled with students with skulls full of mush and open to anything.
Liberal churches in town have their oar in the college doings all the time, college administrators and profs are the usual quiche eaters and chardonnay guzzlers always involved in "good causes" in town.
Abutting to the south of Elmhurst is another suburb, Oak Brook. This is where the hooded perp-girl lives. Also conservative, with big bucks living in this wealthy, exclusive town of mansions, gated communities and exclusive condo complexes. A town visited by jet-set English guys and scions of ex-maharaja royalty from India and England who come to play polo on the lush green playing fields while on the lookout for local wealthy heiress gals.
Oak Brook is populated by a growing number of minority rich folk, Muslims, Indians, middle easterners, etc. many of whom are moneyed doctors, anesthesiologists or otherwise in the medical field.
I'll bet this young lady is a protected, stifled princess at home. She's lucky that in this country she even gets to go to college. Nice way to repay and respect the country you live in.

If the victim is some combination of white, male, christian, conservative, then it's not a hate crime, it's freedom of speech.
