If Powell had promised him an endorsement if he held back on Wright, I could see that. I want the 527s to put the Wright rants in ads. I have been trying to understand where Mac has been coming from in his campaign (putting aside whether I agree with it all ot not) and I am of the opinion he will not change his mind now, and by not playing the Wright card, he sidesteps the race card. That is where he is coming from.

Let the 527s do it. They can do an awesome job. hire the same firm the NRA used to do its commercials.

In theory (IN THEORY), a Powell endorsement of McCain would be significantly more beneficial tomorrow than it would have been earlier in the campaign. We are at the moment when the undecideds are really starting to pay attention and firming up their decisions. This is what's causing all the fluctuations in the polls.

Hypothetically speaking, if Powell endorses McCain tomorrow McCain gets a HUGE boost. But if Powell goes further, basically says "I know John McCain isn't a racist and anyone who says he is should be ashamed of himself", and maybe even takes a swipe a Wright, then I think the election is probably over and McCain wins.

Now I don't know what Powell is really going to do. I don't think anyone knows, except perhaps Powell and Alma. But I do think it's important to throw out a plausible scenario that contradicts the CW that he's coming out for Obama. We'll know for sure soon enough ...
