Walter Williams’ article: "Political Monopoly Power"
Capitalism Magazine | Walter Williams

Posted on 10/14/2008 8:00:25 PM PDT by J. E. Quidam

Conservative commentator Walter Williams has written about the need for more representatives in the U.S. House. He observes that "restricting the number of representatives confers significant monopoly power that goes a long way toward explaining the stranglehold the two parties have and the high incumbent success rates. It might also explain the power of vested interest groups to influence congressional decisions."

Great idea!

The larger figure would be much more representative of the population, as well.

It sounds good, but I didn’t see anything about paying the many additional salaries, benefits and aides.

Please read Questions and Answers #7 and #8 on TTO’s home page at http://www.Thirty-Thousand.org

In addition, the congressional country club has given itself excessive health benefits and other perks. As part of this transition we will need to scale those back to make them more comparable to what an above-average company may offer its employees. For example, members of Congress are currently vested in their pension on day 1. That needs to end.
