In an interview with CNN this afternoon, Sen. John McCain responded to conservative critics who say he should not be proposing so much government spending to lift the troubled economy.
"First of all, I want to help responsible people. Second of all, who are we helping now? Who are we giving the money to now?" McCain asked, responding to a question from CNN reporter Dana Bash. "The same people who were the co-conspirators in this crisis, the greatest crisis of our time. That's who we're giving the money to now."
McCain called the economic crisis a "conflagration" and said it is a "negative" for all politicians. But he said he is "happy" with where his campaign is, despite being behind Obama in major national public polls.
Pressed about why his campaign has not made more of Sen. Barack Obama's connection to his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, in the same way McCain has drawn attention to 60s radical William Ayers, McCain focused on Ayers' past.
"Mr. Ayers is a unrepentant terrorist and that's a unique individual in American history. A person who still want to destroy America. He and his wife, who both want to still destroy America. That's an unusual breed of cat," McCain said.
He then said he doesn't "give a damn about an old unrepentant terrorist," but said that Obama has misrepresented his connection to Ayers.
McCain also said reports of the anger among supporters at his rallies is overstated and said coverage of it has been unfair because news organizations have not covered similar expressions of anger at Obama rallies.

If we elect him, maybe he’ll be willing to take some direction.
This IDIOT VOTED FOR THIS!! He had the easy option of going against this bill, and he pushed for it AS DID OBAMA. So only he is to blame. Such idiocy!
If I thought McCain could be trusted that we are using socialistic principles to get us through this crisis, and that the stopgap measures would be eliminated asap, in favor of truly conservative constitutional principles, and if I trusted that the co-conspirators would be hanged from public gallows, then I would say to McCain, “Well stated.”
But that’s a lot of “ifs”.
I saw the headline and thought “Oh, this ought to be good”. But no, it’s the same old crap.
Quiet John...let Sarah do the talking. You get to be President. -:)
Get Sarah on prime time national tv.

If this is the “greatest crisis or our time”, then why give the money to, as he intimated, crooks?
It’s a blurb rather then blog. It appears to be an imbed reporters last minute filing of sidebar notes.
Nothing new here...its just another jab at McCain as if he needed to fight back against the conservatives...BS.
I think the Bloviator should interview her.
Permission to revise and extend my previous comment. To Sen. McCain’s credit, he did say this;
“”I will tell you right now, I’m proud of my supporters. I’m proud of the people that come. I’m proud of those veterans that have served our country that come to my rallies and fire me up,” he said. “I love them. And for anybody to intimate that the overwhelming 99 and 99ths percent is anything but patriotic and good Americans is frankly unacceptable and I won’t stand for it.”
Maybe after Lewis- Sen. McCain is finally seeing the light.
In a Presidential election the other side is never “decent”- that’s politics.
Along with the money are more regulations that only create a stronger centralized government and less freedom for the people. McCain and Obama’s support for this socialist plan is yet another warning of what we will face if either socialist is elected. History has shown socialism doesn’t work.
Okay. I hate to say this, but this is what you get from the Navy! LOL!
He sounds like a whimp.
Thanks for voting for the 700 Billion Dollar Bailout, John. What a FRIKKIN' Moron.
I guess that’s Oreilly??? -:)
I’d just like them to buy her 30 minutes of time, and let her present aPresidential image. Straight talk, on why McCain is better than Obama. Talk right to America. We get a bump every time she does- and the more she looks presidential, the better for us.
Yep. His best chance is to hide in a cave and let Governor Palin do the campaigning. In fact I’d fire the strategists while I’m at it.
There are a lot of ANGRY conservatives out here, of which I am one. Conservatives speak to personal responsibility. I would have liked to had a mini mansion, but I bought what I could afford. I taught my child to only buy what he can afford. What do I tell him now, that the government says there need be no personal responsibility, accountability or real consequences from irresponsible actions?

Doesn't McCain understand that there is nothing but love and peace and prosperity emanating from Obama rallies?
-PJ
In fact Id fire the strategists while Im at it.

Right!!! We don’t need no stinkin’ “statergiests”. -:)
We got Sarah- and they don’t. We win. LOL
His strategists must be morons or they’re working for the democrats. First he snagged Obama’s “Change” slogan and today he brought out the democrats “New Direction” mantra from a few years ago.
Depressing, I know. Gov. Palin’s going to have to drag him across the finish line. -:)
McCain likes to reach across the aisle to give your wallet to the ‘rats.
O’Retard would pound her with the same ferocity with which he ballwashed 0bambi. No thanks
If elected Sarah should lock him up and only let him out when he needs to make an important appearance. Even then he should be limited.
LET SARAH BE SARAH!!
Someone please sign up McCain for Econ 1A. He has no clue. And someone please PERFORM AN EXORCISM on B. Hussein Obama!!
Last week, a kid in class saw my 7-Election McCain coffee cup and asked why I was voting for McCain. I said, “He hasn’t promised us a secret police.”
Or he'll will take the fact that he was elected as confirmation that his way is the correct way, and change nothing.
Wonder which one it'll be?
I'm willing to wait until he's elected to find out LOL
