I really need to get my citizenship, so I can vote.
Here’s hoping the Prime Minister gets, at least, a comfortable majority. The Dow Jones rallying yesterday can’t hurt. :)
To: fanfan
oops... wishful thinking, I guess.
That would be a comfortable minority. :)
To: fanfan
Thanks for the post, fanfan.
We will be watching hopefully.

Even though I get most of my Canadian news from MacLeans, I think it safe to say that the Conservatives are in great shape for a huge win today!
Sometimes I honestly wish we had a qusi-parliamentary system here.
To: fanfan
Let’s hope all the ndps and libs can’t be bothered walking to the polling booth today. On second thought, that might give them the idea for a mobile voting unit so they don’t have to budge. A Votemobile - that will be next.

I really need to get my citizenship, so I can vote.Yes, you do!
Heres hoping the Prime Minister gets, at least, a comfortable majority.
I'll take that one. :-D

LOL! It’s nice to dream. :)
I would use html but my husband put this on to a French keyboard, so I have all kinds of weird symbols. :)
Anyway, I have to get to work, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed today, and I will check in.

Just got back from The Falls last weekend. Saw Old Fort Erie, Laura Secord House, McFarland House as well. My kids’ first time there. After driving the Niagara Parkway, the kids all wanted to stay. I had to explain to them that not EVERYBODY in Canada lives in houses like those we saw on the scenic route in vineyard country. They think everyone up there is a gajillionaire.
We enjoyed seeing the campaign signs. The kids said something like “look, they have annoying yard signs just like we do”.
In any case, best of luck up there. Here’s hoping conservatism wins the day.

Maybe a couple days of rising stocks will raise the tide for Harper.
This election campaign was mucked up by the economic news.
He may end up still having a minority government.
The Left is split four ways so I have no doubt the Tories will end up with the most seats.

Apparently everyone voting in Canada needs to show photo ID and proof of address to register (if they did not register when paying taxes), and then photo ID at the polling station.

"Sometimes I honestly wish we had a qusi-parliamentary system here." Me, too. I'm conservative, but I nonetheless would love to see an abolition (by constitutional amendment, of course) of the electoral college, and there are some things about the parliamentary system that are excellent.

Scenic Parkway is low-displacement motorbike heaven. I love going in through Lundy’s Lane, up the Parkway past the whirlpool, through the old battlefields then lunch in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Forgive my ignorance, are the Conservatives the only party on the right?
I know there use to be a libertarian/conservative party based largely in the West, am I correct that they folded into the Conservatives?

Thanks, fanfan. My fingers are crossed until they’re blue — conservative, tory type blue. I am praying for Harper (and that Khan can hold on to his cross-the-floor seat).
Multiple prayers going up. Is a majority too much to ask this time???

Welcome and do get your citizenship. My (American) husband was tickled at the though he gets to vote twice in three weeks. He was surprised our ballots don’t have the prime minister’s name on them, though. He kept asking questions from behind the cardboard screen ;)

Yes. They were the Reform Party, and then became the Canadian Alliance, and then merged with the Progressive Conservatives to make the Conservative Party of Canada we have now.

I took an informal exit poll of my husband and my self.
Extrapolating those results, it looks like a Harper landslide.
