A new SurveyUSA poll suggests Oregon's Senate race may be shifting in the direction of Democrat Jeff Merkley.

The poll, broadcast on KATU's noon news, showed Merkley with 46 percent to 41 percent for Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore. Constitution Party candidate David Brownlow had 7 percent and the remaining 6 percent were undecided. The margin of error is 4.1 percentage points, plus or minus.

I hope McCain can turn this race around on Wednesday night. A lot more than the Presidency is at stake.

$HIT!

The rats are running the most misleading ads - it’s disgusting. Apparently Smith paid 1.2 million for golf clubs - I bet he’s sorry now that this info is in every other ad.

McCain will have no coattails. OTOH Sarah Palin may increasce base turnout enough to dampen the dem tide.

Oregon is a cesspool of liberalism.

I thank my lucky stars that I moved out of Oregon several decades ago.

God Bless the few true conservatives who still live there.

Aides are hinting McCain would bring up Ayers.

Obama knows that so he would come prepared.

What choice so I have in Oregon, now that I am an Oregonian?

I either have to vote for a flaming liberal (Smith), or a flaming liberal (Merkley).

IOW, a choice between a douchebag and a turd sandwich. Grrrrrr.

Today I drove along Skyline Blvd and then down Germantown Rd and then over to Scappose.

It is so spectacularly beautiful here! Sure the politics stink..but they stink all up and down the west coast....which is where I have and will always live.

IMHO, bringing up Ayers would only inflict modest damage- he’s yesterday’s news. It’s ACORN which is the really damaging issue.

Gordon Smith's ads turn me into a very reluctant voter, though I will likely vote for him. The most recent ad features a photo of Smith and Ted Kennedy show that the worked together on the Mathew Shepard Hate Crime Law. In another, Elizabeth Furse (sp?) a left wing ex-congressperson endorses Smith. He will end up adhering to the Democrat's line if elected. No help will be found here in blocking a super-majority.

Well, it didn’t take you long to figure it out!! I moved from Oregon a few years ago, have had my go arounds with Smith. I see the race got pretty nasty. There just aren’t many left that will continue to defend Smith. And mercy, Merkley is just an idiot.

South Park was right. As usual.

That’s still only 87% total committed and leaving 13% undecided?? This close to the election??

If I was advising him I would ask him to say this:

Look, lets cut through the crap. There is no doubt GOP screwed up and W has shown terrible leadership.

There is no doubt I have screwed up and have listened to a new advisor everyday, and have focused on campaigning instead of focusing on solutions.

I apologize and I want to set things straight.

I have ALL THIS EXPERIENCE (give a nice summary here). Look at my record (sob story here).

In times like this, do you really want someone who has NO Experience? Senator Obama has great future ahead of him, but his record is not much to write home about.

What exactly has he accomplished? What record does he have that justifies our faith that in these most dangerous times, both in terms of WOT and Global Economic Collapse, someone with NO Experience and No accomplishments will be best suited to lead?

Furthermore, failure of oversight by Bush and Congress and lack of leadership doesn’t mean all of a sudden LIBERAL ECONOMIC theory is the right one.

Then go on, on tax and waste........

THAT WOULD BE HIS LAST CHANCE.

If it works, send me a check. That loser Steve Schmidt doesn’t deserve squat.

I live in Oregon, and Gordon Smith has run a rotten campaign. He has even featured Barack Obama in his TV ads here claiming they can work together in a bi-partisan fashion! He has run consistently left here, which has not attracted any left-wing loons, and has run off most of the conservatives.

Gordon Smith will most likely loose. And he has no one to blame but himself.

“Aides are hinting McCain would bring up Ayers.”

McCain’s campaign suffers from diarrhea of the mouth. I’ve said it before—somebody on that staff needs to read Sun Tsu and learn to STFU. They’ve announced every move they’ve made far enough in advance to give Obama time to plan a response. Idiots!

Gordon Smith is a smart campaigner. He won the Senate seat in 1996, depsite Clintion winning big in OR. Until the Wall Street crisis, I thought Smith would be re-election. Now people are angry at Bush and the GOP leadership. As a result, people equate conservativism with incompetence. I hate to say it, but Bush is a horrible President.

Merley is a tax and spend liberal dimocrat.

We need to hold our noses and vote for Gordon Smith.

He helped me when my husband died, and he has helped numerous others work through their hardships.

And Merklery paid over $4000 to redo the leader’s chambers when he had criticized the one who redecorated before him.

Hmmmm. Pot, meet kettle, black.

He only sided with them when the poll numbers started going south for him....which IMO as a military guy is worse. He is an unprincipled leader...the kind we need to get rid of now.

It may get darker before the dawn, but the new day will be better when we introduce conservatives with core values. We'll introduce these people once liberals can no longer take rotting in their own values and realize they need to call in the cavalry.

Thanks, I’m one of them, and God help me. Been here six years and I really don’t know if it’s something in the air from all these old-growth forests, or all the inbreeding (Oregon is sort of like Appalachia, except the people aren’t nice), but this state must have the lowest per capita IQ scores in the country.

Put anything on the ballot that will raise taxes and it passes. Every local government meeting I’ve attended is rife with incompetence, nepotism and sheer leftist foolishness ala Berkeley. The political corruption at the State level is rivaled only by Chicago. Kulongoski is an outright liar. The Social Services are run almost entirely by lesbians, come to think of it so is the Catholic archdiocese. Almost every car you see has an Obama sticker, including the Catholic churches.

I’m waiting for this economic disaster to drop housing prices enough in California that I can move back. By comparison to Oregon, California is fairly normal, and that is saying a heck of a lot!

“and then over to Scappose.”

I had a fraternity brother at the U of O. He told me that when he and his brothers were little, and they did something to upset the parents, his father would say:

‘If you keep that up, I'm taking you to Scappose!’

Scared the crap out of ‘em.

“But, it’s the true conservatives who are still living there that are supporting the Constitution Party candidate for U.S. Senate.”

Then we can thank these “true conservatives” when there is one less republican vote to confirm decent supreme court nominees.
Gordon Smith supported both of our new justices.

That’s kind of what I meant when I brought up what I did with my statement. Leftest voters are not voting at all for the Constitution Party candidate for the U.S. Senate, so this means that, at least going by the 7% that the Constitution Party candidate is getting in this poll, some conservative voters are planning on voting, instead, for the Constitution Party candidate for the U.S. Senate instead of voting, in enough of a conservative majority, for the “RINO” Republican incumbent Senator Gordon Smith. This is a serious ongoing problem that’s very common with “RINO” Republicans at every level throughout the U.S. when it comes to who the majority of conservative voters will end up finally voting for, if anybody, when the serious choices are only between a “RINO” Republican and a Democrat.

I live in Washington state close to the Oregon border with several relatives living in Oregon. I see many ads for both Smith and Merkley on Portland TV. If, I lived in Oregon, I would probably vote for Brownlow to send a message to the state GOP that if your Senate nominee goes too far to the left, he is gonna lose.
