McCain's Strategy for Last Debate (My opinion)

Posted on 10/12/2008 7:33:35 AM PDT by DocT111

He needs to watch the debates between Reagan and Carter. What sealed the deal for Reagan - he asked the American people a question - are you better off now?

If McCain can ask "are you better off now" and then do a compare/contrast between himself and Obama that might tip the scales...

He also needs to hit home with the Middle Class - imagine mainstreet entrerpeneur who opens a tire and brake shop - to truly succeed in the American dream he needs to build 2-3 locations right? He does that and guess what he is now making $250,000 plus in income. Gues what Obama tax cuts do for those making $250,000? He has to close one or more stores in order to pay taxes, thereby laying off good hard-working people. Then he has to hit home with how giving tax breaks to small businesses and reducing the capital gains tax will stimulate mainstreet economy and creating more jobs.

Sorry for the blathering - my two cents worth.

he needs to run against Obama’s views pre-May 2008, not his carefully crafted general campaign agenda. There was no discussion of a middle class tax cut. There was no 95% of the people getting tax cuts. There was a reveral of the Bush cuts, increase in business taxes, increase in capital gains taxes, increase in payroll taxes, increase in wealth redistribution. McCain needs to ge the middle pissed that their hard work will be punished under Obama as he makes more handouts to those that do not work. It is reverse class warfare, but 100% relevant here. Many millions of Americans are pissed that they are working their butts off while others get free rent, free handouts, etc. Obama is government handouts on steroids. His record is there to prove it. His ACORN ties prove it. His lawsuit for no money down loans proves it.

Honestly, I don’t know ANYONE who can say they are now better off than four or eight years ago. Once people open their 401(K) statements, they may turn even more sour.

He needs to expose Obama pure and simple. In terms that are concise, pointed and backed with irrefutable evidence...which there is a treasure trove of.

Have the courage to FIGHT, McCain!

...if McWuss does the nice guy routine and noodles through a yawner then we know he pulled a Dole and we (the American people) are in for a nasty dangerous span of time.
It was said by many it would take 10 years to overcome clintons “mistakes” and that was when he was doing something, like renting out the Lincoln bedroom

Obama keeps getting away with saying that McCain is for a giant tax cut for rich people. McCain needs to say forcefully that all he wants to do is keep the current rates where they are, and that only in Washington would that be described as a tax “cut.”

The key date is 2006 when the Dimmicrats took over Congress. Take a look at almost any economic measure and you will see that it started down in late 2008 or early 2007.

McCain needs to point out that since the dims took over Congress 2 years ago, gas prices have doubled, banks have failed, and government has taken more and more of your freedoms.

Does ANYONE want 4 more years of THAT?

So you're saying the recession that began in mid 2000 and lasted until sometime in 2002 was the republicans fault because they controlled the Congress when it began and under their policies?

I already knew before the statements began arriving last Friday. I check them monthly online. But many people do not.

Can we claim the 401-k fiducial agents are in it to help Obama by the timing of these statements being sent?

It’s not very complicated, but people don’t seem to get it... Congress makes the laws and spends all the money.

The only thing a president can do is use his veto pen. Bush has been AWOL in that regard, but he doesn’t deserve the credit for the tanking economy. This was brought upon us by the house and senate. IMHO

How about this:

Paling around with odinga.

“Mr. Odinga and Mr. Obama were nearly inseparable throughout Mr. Obama’s six-day stay. The two traveled together throughout Kenya and Mr. Obama spoke on behalf of Mr. Odinga at numerous rallies. In contrast, Mr. Obama had only criticism for Kibaki. He lashed out against the Kenyan government shortly after meeting with the president on Aug. 25.”

Another paling around statement would certainly get MSM coverage. Do we want to go there again? The dims are going to keep brining it us anyway.

Talk about the promised capital gains tax from Obama’s plan. Explain to the layman what this does to the stock market since all the care about is their 401k (sigh)

Correctomundo!
McCain should be attacking the Dems in Congress and their policies directly (of which Obama is easily linked). He should expose ACORN for the taxpayer subsidized, vote fraud, subprime-pushing entity it is and tell the American people who disagree with these actions of ACORN that they subside their opponents. McCain should link the Chicago Machine with Obama and ask Americans if they thought DC was bad how much worse would it be with Chicago’s Machine installed there?

Then McCain should say it’s time to cutback or end the phony Ponzi scheme entitlement programs that are killing this country’s future. Seeing how big govt does so well with our housing and financial markets why should we give it our health care market, too?

Lower taxes, smaller government and more freedom.
My 0.02.

Are you better off than you were in ‘06, when dim-0s won control of congress with their “common sense plan” to “CHANGE” the direction of America? Then go on to list those “CHANGES”. GDP growth that was clocking 4% growth quarter after quarter, Job growth that was expanding. Gas that cost 2.22 a gallon. Groceries that cost 100 bucks less per month.

“Are you better off...”

How about this?

We are in a time of tough international challenges and unprecedented financial crisis. Is this the time to trust somebody that has little to no experience?...Is this the time to trust a person whose judgement has been lackin?

(simple, direct, elicits a response)

AMEN It is time to open the character floodgates. List everything. Overwhelm Obama, the media and voters with ALL of Obamas, friends, mentors, associations, organizations, votes, missing resume’ documentation, and questionable past behavior. Let the media and democrats squeel like stuck pigs after the debate and bring everything to forefront discussions the last few weeks.

Democrats love their endless parade of victims. Show mainsteam America that THEY will be part of the parade in an Obama presidency.

Yeah, it's the wrong time and the wrong place to ask that question. And even people who really are better off will not believe it.

In 1960 when the economy was actually humming along pretty well the republicans made the strategic blunder of telling people "you never had it so good!" The 'rats heaved up pictures of Appalachian and inner city poverty and skewered the GOP on the usual hooks of being for the rich, and out of touch, etc etc. The fact that for most people it was true was lost in the static, and Kennedy made hay by saying "we have to get America moving again!"
