Mexican marijuana cartels use pesticides, herbicides that pollute US parks, forests
National forests and parks long popular with Mexican marijuana-growing cartels have become home to some of the most polluted pockets of wilderness in America because of the toxic chemicals needed to eke lucrative harvests from rocky mountainsides, federal officials said.
The grow sites have taken hold from the West Coast's Cascade Mountains, as well as on federal lands in Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia.
Seven hundred grow sites were discovered on U.S. Forest Service land in California alone in 2007 and 2008 and authorities say the 1,800-square-mile Sequoia National Forest is the hardest hit.
Weed and bug sprays, some long banned in the U.S., have been smuggled to the marijuana farms. Plant growth hormones have been dumped into streams, and the water has then been diverted for miles in PVC pipes.
Rat poison has been sprinkled over the landscape to keep animals away from tender plants. And many sites are strewn with the carcasses of deer and bears poached by workers

As of Sept. 2, more than 2.2 million plants had been uprooted statewide. The largest single bust in the nation this year netted 482,000 plants in the remote Sierra of Tulare County, the forest service said.
Some popular parks also have suffered damage. In 2007, rangers found more than 20,000 plants in Yosemite National Park and 43,000 plants in Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park, where 159 grow sites have been discovered over the past 10 years.
Agent Patrick Foy of the California Department of Fish and Game estimated that 1.5 pounds of fertilizers and pesticides is used for every 11.5 plants.
"I've seen the pesticide residue on the plants," Foy said. "You ain't just smoking pot, bud. You're smoking some heavy-duty pesticides from Mexico."

Mexican Drug Cartel PING
“Mexican cartels...pesticide...national forests.”
I can’t stress this enough folks—
buy your weed from Canada.
Celebrate diversity!
God forbid though you ride an ATV through the parks. You might be thrown in jail.

Thank you, Juan and 0bama. |

Thank God the water got diverted in those PVC pipes.
That keeps the the chemicals out of the regular streams.
Kick ass environmentalism from the dope growers.
Or worse - bring a firearm along on a hike or a camping trip. I learned long ago that only a fool goes such places unarmed.
Being by myself, I got the heck out of there as fast as I could, as one never knows whether anyone's watching the place, and, if so, how many.
I had no desire to be an unwilling participant in the "shoot, shovel and shut up" game.
wonder if they got a permit for that?
wonder if they paid the entry fee?
wouldn’t anyone wonder if a couple landscaping trucks
riddle with pvc pipe bought a day pass?
Drug war nonsense...
Legalize the stuff already.
So to boil this all down to one short sentence.
Prohibition doesn’t work.
It’s amazing that after the harsh lessons of what happened during alcohol prohibition that the nation still hasn’t learned anything. Imagine what could have been if Joe Kennedy hadn’t been able to make a fortune rum running. Imagine how different Chicago politics could be.
Seems like an awful lot of damage to this nation, be it financial, social, or environmental, is coming from south of the border, with direct encouragement and assistance by government, McCain having led a very active roll in all of this.
Some job our Federal Government is doing stopping this. Not
Our law enforcement officers have taken at least 200,000 marijuana plants from the National Forest so far. That is just scratching the surface. These are Mexican cartel grows which are in addition to local mom and pop operations.
There are folks who believe that the move by environmentalists, tribes and certain legislators to close the Forest down from human use in increments through endangered species, roadless areas and expanded wilderness is financially motivated and that there are links to organized crime and the cartels at high levels.
What we need are more regulations against this! Better yet, If we nationalize (socialize) all property, then goverment can ensure that it will only be used for good, clean and legitimate purposes! (barf)
Mexican Marijuana Cartels Polluting and Drugging America?
Gol darn it-——the invasion gets more “special” by the minute.
Remember how amnesty cheerleaders assured us that once these illiterate peasants left their Third World hovels and came to America they would become so enamored of American freedom and democracy they would abandon their corrupt ways and embrace America and all it stands for (sob).
Golly-—my heart went thumpity-thump when Bush sent Karl Rove to tell La Raza US laws would NOT be enforced so that invaders could have a “better life” (sniffle).
(Course, Bush also believed the one about Iraqis greeting US soldiers as “liberators” who would throw roses at the soldiers’ feet.)
Now that Mexican Marijuana Cartels are Polluting and Drugging America, Bush will no doubt interpret this to mean US taxpayers will have to send $25 billion to “help Mexico deal with the problem in downtown Tiajuana.”
Prohibition does work if you execute the drug dealers
The unconstitutional War on Drugs continues to reap dividends...
So let me get this straight. If any of US used these chemicals, we’d be in deep do-do. We are paying millions in tax dollars to take care of our national parks.
Meanwhile, illegals are pouring over the border into the U.S. and even though they are benefiting from our health care system, our education system, and our legal system, they’re also forming gangs, committing murders, and poisoning our land.
The government (which is to supposed to protect our borders) says: “Problem? What problem?”
Better McCain than Obama!
Our law enforcement officers have taken at least 200,000 marijuana plants from the National Forest so far.

Nope...
2.2 MILLION...
You forgot to thank Jorge.
Ah yes, Jorge Boosh.
A couple of years ago MJ was the #8 cash crop in Washington, with a significant portion of it raised in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
Border Patrol Agent Poisoned

Imagine 50,000 of our finest not dying half the world away.
Obama could not answer this because his party's platform and he himself is for mass legalization of these invaders.
There you have it. This is how McCain get swoop up massive segments of the Undecideds.
Do YOU want him to do this?
Do YOU want him to win the election?
Does HE want to win the election?
Thanks for the pings, ladies. Well, finally someone besides Lou Dobbs noticed! He’s the only major outlet we’ve been able to get to see this problem...where are the envirofreaks on this?????
Lots of interesting photos of these drug cartel camps here:
http://towncriernews.blogspot.com/search?q=invasion+800+miles
The Mexican border has moved 800 miles north-
Personally, I think it's time to regulate this entirely unregulated industry and take all those billions and billions of dollars in profits away from organized crime. Then tax paying law abiding farmers would be growing it on their farms and non one would be growing it in our national forests.
” Thank God the water got diverted in those PVC pipes.
That keeps the the chemicals out of the regular streams.
Kick ass environmentalism from the dope growers. “
To be clear, what they do is run water pipes from the water source to the plants, downhill. The chemicals are put on the plants. The chemicals then wash down the entire watershed.
These people destroy the area they’re using. The scrape the trees and make canopies to cut the view and cut more for shelter. The dig huge pits for garbage and to hide things and whatever. More damage to the watershed.
There is NOTHING environmentally sound out of this bunch. They use chemicals long ago banned here.
“Some job our Federal Government is doing stopping this. Not”
Our local sheriffs get some help from forest service and DEA, but Homeland Security says it’s NOT their problem. It’s all they can do to keep up with the Mexican Drug cartels.
Lori, our sheriff caught one of these growers who had a USA issued agricultural green card. He was family of one of the biggest known drug cartels in Mexico, but he got in legally anyway.
“. It’s easier for them to get away with growing it in Mexico,”
Not really. Down there they have to split the take with law enforcement. Up here they pretty much have free reign over hundreds of thousands of ‘protected’ uninhabited land where no one goes. They’re nearly impossible to spot by plane, though that’s how they find some.
Given that we have to choose between the two, what is your choice?
As CIC, Obama would throw us to the wolves. McCain would NOT.
I have a story too, but I can’t tell it.
Well your NO VOTE helps to get the greater of the 2 evils elected. Sleep well.
So now when do we see headless bodies show up in Yellowstone?
No, I am talking about my county alone.

SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT! End the war on (some) drugs and RE-LEGALIZE marijuana!
Got this email this morning. Seems to apply to BOTH of the current crop of “candidates”:
Subject: THINGS THAT “CHANGE
This e-mail reflects on all politicians Republicans & Democrats, Etc. alike.
Subject: Change and changes already made
Not long ago I read a joke . It said all the politicians running for
president are promising change to the American people.
We send them billions and billions of tax dollars and they send us the change.
That got me to thinking ... They all promise change; How about if they run on
a promise of restoration rather than change.
A restoration that would take us back in time to a place where things ran better, smoother and life was
more enjoyable. Change? That, in truth, is what they have been giving us all along.
We used to have a strong dollar . Politicians changed that.
We used to be respected around the world .. Politicians changed that.
We used to have a strong manufacturing economy ... Politicians changed that.
We used to have lower tax structures ... Politicians changed that.
We used to enjoy more freedoms ... Politicians changed that.
We used to be a large exporter of American made goods ... Politicians changed that.
We used to teach patriotism in schools ... Politicians changed that.
We used to educate children in schools ... Politicians changed that.
We used pray in school... Politicians changed t hat.
We used to enjoy freedom of speech ... Politicians changed that.
We used to enforce LEGAL citizenship .. Politicians changed that.
We used to have affordable food & gas prices .. Politicians changed that,
too. ... and one could go on and on with this list.
What hasn’t been changed, politicians are promising to change that as well
if you will elect them.
When, oh when, is America going to sit back with open eyes and look at what
we once were and where we have come and say, enough is enough?
The trouble is, Americas youthful voters today don’t know of the great
America that existed forty and fifty years ago. They see the world as if it
has always existed, as it is now.
And what about those of us that remember what America was about—Have we all become apathetic; with
a ‘Who Gives A Damn Anymore’!
When will we wake up? Tomorrow may be too late. When will America realize:
‘That Politicians and Special Interest Groups that constantly Spout: ‘It’s not Fair’
are what is wrong with America ?
PASS THIS ONE AROUND FOR A CHANGE
They do that in Iran. It doesn’t work there.
Doesn’t work in Singapore or China or even the Mid-East. Somebody ALWAYS steps up to take up the cudgel of dealing drugs. You RE-legalize, you take away the mega-profits and the motive for stuff like this. But the producers and dealers have useful idiots who clamor for tougher laws against (some) drugs and we wind up where we are and where much of Mexico is these days. So how does it feel to be helping to line the pockets of the drug cartels? At the expense of your fellow Americans, need I add?
I don’t believe that libertarian bull. Drugs are not inevitable. You just kill the dealers
