McCain Letter Demanded 2006 Action on Fannie and Freddie
Human Events ^ | October 10, 2008 | Staff

Sen. John McCain's 2006 demand for regulatory action on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac could have prevented current financial crisis, as HUMAN EVENTS learned from the letter shown in full text below.

McCain's letter -- signed by nineteen other senators -- said that it was "...vitally important that Congress take the necessary steps to ensure that [Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac]...operate in a safe and sound manner.[and]..More importantly, Congress must ensure that the American taxpayer is protected in the event that either...should fail."

Sen. Obama did not sign the letter, nor did any other Democrat.

I hope the McCain campaign is making commercials...and, yes, I am a contributor.

Didn’t you know...the Fannie and Freddie debacle was McCain’s fault because of deregulation???

What I’d like to see is a copy of the letter Obama claims to have sent someone warning about the Fannie/Freddie problem. He’s made that claim a couple of times and no one asks for proof.

“2006?”

LOL!

McCain was public enemy #1 around here at that time!

Good to see folks are catching up with the Hawkman’s knowledge. If folks would have spent less time sniffing Fred “West Hollywood “ Thompson’s jock and taking an American hero seriously we would not be in this mess now.

Admittedly, we would probably still be in a different mess...

Why hasn’t the campaign made this public. Are they afraid of insulting O ?

I have seen the letter, tsmith. Someone posted it here, though I can’t remember who.

What it had to do with was calling for some kind of “summit” (he likes that word) to keep people in houses that were being foreclosed on, and nothing to do with reining in Fannie and Freddie, if I recall correctly.

He can't even produce a legitimate copy of his birth certificate.

Here’s the question that needs answering. Obama Claims he sent letters to lots of department heads warning of the financial problems to come. Those documents need to be produced!

I saw one, think it was posted on FR. There was no warning in it except to say that his poor minority voters can’t be excluded from the scam.

A postscript to this type of usual
conveniently- discovered CYA letter could very well go on to say:

“We in Congress have already done all that we can to ramp up these no income verification subprime loans for our banking buddies by enabling a large influx of
illegal immigrants.”

For the life of me, I have no idea what they’re thinking.

I think events and the antics of Congress have made it impossible for them to get their message out—with a ‘little help’ from the MSM.

If we had Fred Thompson as a candidate instead of the liberal McCain.....I suspect you’re right! We would NOT be in this mess right now.

Are you “The Hawkman”? Wow!

Have another cup of ego, schmuck.
