Does Newsweek Really Stand By This Poll?
campaignspot ^ | Oct 11 2008 | Jim Geraghty

Dear friends at Newsweek...

Just to clarify...

You have McCain winning Republicans, 89 to 7. You have Obama winning Democrats, 91 to 5. (I'm a bit skeptical, but for now, for the sake of argument, I'll accept your assertion that PUMAs are extinct.) You have McCain winning independents by 2 percent, 45 to 43.

And this adds up to an 11-percent Obama lead in your latest poll.

We are to believe that McCain is losing among women by 9 percent, but losing among men by 14 percent.

We are to believe that the Hillary voters are lining up behind Obama, 88 percent to 7 percent.

We are to believe Obama is winning 18 to 34-year-olds by 10 percent, but he is winning 45 to 64-year-olds by 16 percent.

We are to believe the white vote is just about even, 46 percent for Obama, 47 percent for McCain.

And we are to believe the electorate in November will be 27 percent Republican, 40 percent Democrat, and 30 percent Independent.

If the over/under on the partisan breakdown on Election Day is 13 percent, I'd take the under. I wonder if anybody in Vegas would take that wager...

I know he’s being cute, but I could never use Newsweek and “friends” in the same sentence.

There is poll manipulation going on in the Liberal mainsteam media.

As soon as the economic crisis settles down McCain will rise.

In what universe has a Democrat won a majority of the white vote since 1964? This is rotgut garbage. Its not even a serious poll! If Obama wins with a 13 point Democrat voter advantage, I'll buy up all the toxic sludge on Wall Street. That is if it actually exists!

Maybe the Newsweek pollster/editors would bet half of their own personal net worth on this poll?

The problem the pollsters are having is making sure their polls are representative of the Acorn activities. It is very difficult to weigh that factor in. ;0)

I’d be willing to make a $10 bet with one of them that Obama does not=Algore’s % among blacks in 2000. In fact, I bet he barely exceeds Kerry.

NewsWeak is a joke. This is total propaganda. Be prepapred folks because next week they may be claiming Obama is up 17 points or some other insanity. It is to depress our base.

I picked up their crappy mag at my CPA’s office a few months ago. It is paper thin with few ads and little content. The MSM thinks they can save their newspapers and mags by becoming total mouthpieces for Obama and his Islamist financial backers.

I have been saying this since he was anointed as the Candidate-—Barack Obama will NOT break 40% of the popular vote on election day. He will barely get more than Bill Clinton did to win the Presidency in a THREE man race.
Ain’t gonna happen/ I don’t even think it could happen with blatant voter/registration fraud.

Not just the media. I think a lot of people are so fed up with the pollster-media axis that a lot of people are lying to these pollsters. I am also guessing their hang-up rates are through the roof, especially among McCain supporters. Also, I am sure that a lot of Zero supporters are saying they’re Republicans for 0bama when they aren’t.

One more thing. If they really thought Obama was winning — they would not put out these lies. They would make it closer. This is to depress our base.

Volunteer, get out the vote.

LISTEN, the only way to make the media pay for it's injustices is to hire private detectives to dig into the closets of the medias talking heads and owners. All legally, and turn the skeletons they find over to the legal authorities and if they don't do anything then shout it to the public! Detectives can only work in states where they are licensed so we would have to hire detectives from New York, and Illinois, and California, and D.C., where the networks have offices, and studios. So let's pool our money and send some to New York as a start to dig up dirt on the so called "journalists", like what they tried to do to Governor Sarah Palin. Sort of a "what is goods for the goose...." kind of thing.LET'S GO NOW, NO EXCUSES! NOW IS THE TIME! I heard somewhere ,that they are already investigating MSNBC talking heads! Good for them!

I agree. The MSM and Obama have been telling us, in many different ways, that an Obama presidency is inevitable. They even did that through symbolism (Obama's presidential seal)

They aren't going to go quietly.

The polls show he gets a consistent 45%. He will be lucky to get that on Election Day. In only a few polls had he approached 50%. I think he got over that when they started playing games with party ID. That's how he gets an improbable double digit lead. But if he can't break 45% the week before Election Day, its all over.

The poll must include the Dead (100% for Obama),
and the twice/thrice voted (100% for Obama).

That’s where Obama has gained the lead...

I must go way back into my memory banks (how long has it been since we’ve heard THAT expression?) but as I recall Newsweek had GWB up by double digits in 2000 after the second or third debate. They also had the elder President Bush up by *17* after the last debate in 1988. He won, but the margin was much smaller. I don’t think Newsweek polls can be trusted, even if they overestimated GOP support in 2 past elections.

Yes, Newsweek stands behind its poll. With a smirk on its face.

Liberal rags have always been highly slanted in their coverage and their polls have been nothing but the tool of their desire. It is their pious intention to tell us what to think, and when to think it.

They consider themselves the wise and we are the rubes. They believe history can be made by the printing press and the television camera. They know that 35%-40% of us will never be swayed by their pronouncements, but thats not the point. They intend to sway the confused who cannot, even at this stage, seem to make up their minds whether they are capitalists or communists or somewhere inbetween.

It has been rather startling to see the glee with which some of them have already begun pronouncing capitalism dead. One catastrophy caused by democrats importing communist programs into this country (Fannie Mae) will not sink capitalism. It is too strong. They know that. But three weeks out from an election all they want and need is the appearance that capitalism has failed to push a socialist agenda.

It allows Obama to blur the lines and push through to victory, and he hasn't wasted any time doing exactly that. Yesterday he said (paraphrased)"It isn't about conservative or liberal, or democrat or republican, it is about what is good for (you)" Blurring the lines. He hopes in a state of mild panic people will turn to the nearest baritone voice uttering reassurances, and then he can be the "spy behind enemy lines" (from his book) as he sits in the Oval Office pushing a socialist agenda, economically and diplomatically, that will severely damage this country.

“NewsWeak is a joke.”

The problem is it’s an old and worn joke.

Newsweeks ‘polls’ have been so ridiculously off for at least a decade that no one with a cell left in their brain could possibly take them seriously.

I wonder though if all these headlines showing 0bama way ahead though are just increasing momentum for him. I hope not but who knows.

I have to wonder also if that stat about 45-64 y.o. people going for 0 is more accurate than we would like because too many in that age range are thinking for some ridiculous reason that 0 and the Dems are the ones to protect their retirement. If so then they are ignorant or refuse to see the truth.

As I have been saying in several posts, these 0bama voters are going to have to learn the hard way. Too bad they will drag all of us down with them.

Has anybody actually gone out and talked to those people in your lives that vote dem. I have and the only one my husband and I find of our acquaintances from all over the US not staying home or voting McCain is a lawyer and vegetarian couple.

Gee, the one couple we were sure would be at the polls because they have never seen a dem they do not like are staying home. My grandmother and her blue-dog democrat faithful friends are not voting Obama, shocker of shockers yesterday I found out the 70 and older non-Chrisitan, pro-abortion, anti-war never heard a dem talking point they did not love repeating PBS news watching, Social Security bound, book-club ladies hate Obama with a passion. Obama does not have a happy base no matter what the polls are saying.

Only way Obama gets 45% of the vote is through massive fraud.

I’m on board with you ... I absolutely believe rags like Newsweek and their fellow travelers publish polls to deflate enthusiasm by Republicans, that the 45-64 demo group is thinking only of their retirement and that it’s a hard lesson ahead if Obama wins.

And I’m just paranoid enough to wonder if Soros doesn’t have something to do with the current economic situation. He did serious damage both to the UK and Asia ... but at least in the UK the folks still seem to love his Chosen Messiah.
