Lame Duck buzz... Could be an active lame duck session this year.

In recent events around the country, Mrs. Pelosi has warned members of the House they should be ready to return to Washington after the election. "We have some harsh decisions to make. Some of them can't wait until January," she said earlier this week in Denver. "What we can't wait for is a stimulus package."

On Monday, Mrs. Pelosi will host an "economic forum" in her Capitol Hill office, bringing a group of economists together with the House Democratic leadership to discuss steps to strengthen the economy.

GW Bush and Congress seem busy planning for a very active lame duck session. Looks like W will be bargaining judges for whatever stimulus the dems will want him to sign. (See http://www.cqpolitics.com/mobile/wmspage.cfm?docID=cqmidday-000002971515 for example)

We might just see our first "five year plan" pushed through as one of Pelosi's "harsh measures". Who knows what this "economic forum" and subsequent lame duck session in these times might produce.

Personally, I wish they would just stay home.

“Harsh measures”; Pelosi will finally admit Barney Frank is guilty of the Fanny mae debacle?

“Harsh measures”.

Only in Washington can spending more and more money on an emergency basis be viewed as a “harsh measure”. lol

It may depend on how bad W wants those judges. That is one reason I suspect this will be an active session.

Putting Bawney Fwank and Chris Dodd in stocks on the Capitol lawn would maybe get in the neighborhood of “harsh”...

For Pelosi, we’d need a pond for the “dunking”, as the Salem method would definitely be “too harsh”.

The money that they taxes us
That’s known as revenues
They compound up collaterals
Subtracts the residue

Don’t worry about the principal
And interest it encrues
They’re shipping all that stuff to foreign lands
The country’s in the very best of hands

I guess it would not surprise me if he did bargain for the judges... The only thing that gives me hope is that every time that Pelosi and Co. Have had openings to implement their socialist programs it seems they have been asleep at the switch.... or bungled it so bad that their plans have failed.....

Sorry for taking so long to get back. Pelosi should be tarred and feathered

1) What can't wait a couple months about a stimulus, and does anybody really believe that 9% Nancy gives a crap unless there's a political gain for her?

2) So what gives with the rush IF she believes the tales we are being told about a Rat total control of both houses and the presidency just 2 months down the road?

3) Is it possible she's looking at internals that tell her it's now or never (or at least 2 years)?

I should add: ESPECIALLY if she has to bargain for judges she doesn't want when she could get exactly the judges she and the other Rats do want in 2 short months...

Indeed, if it can't wait, why did they adjourn?

2) So what gives with the rush IF she believes the tales we are being told about a Rat total control of both houses and the presidency just 2 months down the road?

The hurry is to get it done while providing cover for the next President. They can bargain better with Bush in any event. I doubt she believes that there will be a shift in power. They are just excited about being able to push through some more of the same that has been going on for many years now, republican or democrat. It simply is something that they get excited about.

3) Is it possible she's looking at internals that tell her it's now or never (or at least 2 years)?

No way. That won't happen for another two years.

I am sure that the $150 Billion will turn into $250 Billion in no time at all. It will be something like: $150 Billion is all that is needed, but $200 Billion does so much more that we decided to ask for $250 Billion.

For the record, we are already up to $300 Billion and we haven't even had the election yet. Even Big Ben is on board. If we are at $300 Billion, wouldn't $450 Billion be even "harsher measures" according to Pelosi? Look for it.
