In a huddle with reporters earlier this week in Washington, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) acknowledged that his party's chances of reaching the 60-seat plateau were "better than they were two weeks ago" -- the result of an across-the-board collapse in Republican numbers due to the economic crisis and handling of the bailout bill by Congress. (Yes, we know Democrats control the House and Senate. But, the American public overwhelmingly blamed President Bush and House Republicans for the initial failure of the "rescue" legislation.)
And, respected non-partisan observers are also beginning to openly speculate about the possibility. In a must-read column earlier this week, Stu Rothenberg wrote: "Where I once wrote in this space that Democrats had a chance of reaching 60 seats in 2010, I now can't rule out 60 seats for this November."
Our take? Sixty seats for Democrats remains something less than a 50-50 proposition but a relatively plausible path to a filibuster-proof majority does exist.

***Obama, Pelosi, and Reid***
If the Dems do reach that unholy trinity, then hello to the Great Society II.
The pinheads living in this country better give what they are about to do some REALLY serious thought.
Thats why people need to give up some time and cash and pull some of these peoples butts out of the fire.
“The pinheads living in this country better give what they are about to do some REALLY serious thought.”
Precisely
As Dennis Prager said:
“However noble their intentions, conservatives who do not vote for John McCain will be morally complicit in what happens to America during an Obama presidency.”
BLOAT
It’s almost as important to stop the dems from getting 60 senate seats as it is stopping Hussein.
Allowing both to happen would literally be a nightmare.
More like Cuba II.
Wow, nice that they are getting rewarded for Fannie and Freddie.
The media is corrupt, and we cannot go another year without busting up their monopoly.
They will have 60 anyway when you throw in the RINOs.
The problem isn’t so much that some conservatives won’t be voting for McCain... (because I doubt most of those are being honest with themselves) Rather it’s that conservative volunteers won’t run an ACORN style election process in order to win. If Obama gets into office and the Dems get their 60, then it’s a guarantee that we’ll enter a second civil war in short order.
I do predict that the dems couldn't control themselves under such circumstances.
That's not true. We are talking about probability here. With RINO, the numbers are about 50-60% they would vote 'conservative'. With the Dims, the numbers will go to almost 100%.
Oh yaeh, we can undo them afterwards. But it’ll be really bloody.
Get out the vote for McCain/Palin and avoid the inevitable aftermath of a DemonRat/Socialist takeover!
AND reloading gear......
I'm just going to smile and continue to pray. "Thy will be done..."
If the American people are SO STUPID as to elect OBomba and 60 DEMOCRAT Senators, this country Won ‘t be WORTH FIGHTING FOR!!
Dems don’t need to get 60 senators. What with so many f-ing RINOs all they need is about 56. They can then just drag a few perks and free meals and they can gather enough RINOs to get anything passed.
The Republicans will gain 16 seats in the senate.
(I can BS just as well as the Marxists at Pravda on the Potomac.)
I’d be shocked if they pull off that many. I think they claim three new ones realistically. New Mexico seems to be gone, Virginia is definitely gone, and Colorado might be gone. If incumbents in NC, Minnesota, Alaska, and Oregon, or any couple of those, fall then it could mean we are getting wiped out all over the board in that election and probably means BHO wins.
That would be true if all those people exist. ACORN doesn’t always register real people. As matter of fact, they seldom register real people.
