Some overseas soldiers' voting hampered
signonsandiego.com ^ | October 10, 2008 | Deborah Hastings

American soldiers can hump 60-pound packs through the broiling desert, kill for their country and die for it, but they can't always vote for their commander in chief.

A solution has long been proposed: Just get rid of the Byzantine process which forces those in far-flung battle zones to vote by mail that must be delivered to thousands of local election districts across the United States.

Advertisement But the Pentagon has found that bringing military voting into the 21st century is not so simple.

The number of absentee military ballots applied for that ultimately get counted is consistently low. In the last federal election, only about 30 percent of overseas military ballots were tallied, according to data from the federal Election Assistance Commission, which monitors election problems, and the Pew Center on the States.

“only about 30 percent of overseas military ballots were tallied”

This is completely unacceptable.

The army has no trouble getting mail to the troops; it should be able to pick up their ballots and get them returned, as a priority for the military and the Post Office.

(As well, missing 70% of the overseas military ballots this election will hurt one party much more than the other party. And some of the states are going to be very, very close races...)

However if you are a bum living in a refrigerator box or a crack head, no problem. Acorn will get you to the ballot box.

It looks that way I'm sorry to say. But what he hell. It serves a noble cause. A sorry socialist asshole gets to dictate how our lives should be conducted. Don't you feel better now.

The Dems clearly don't want to allow the Military vote.

Send an email to your (republican) Representatives and tell him/her not to cancel the military vote again.

If you want me to be honest I have to say I'm not sure at this point. We have too many California transplants. And as much as I hate to say this Harry Reid comes from this great state. Again too many assholes from California have moved here and infected our politics.

Yup. It sounds that way. The freaked out tweakers, mentally deficient, chronically unemployed by choice, are the preferred voter groups of ACORN. Too bad we can't convince ACORN to go to Iraq/Afghanistan to “facilitate” the military vote. At least they would be working from a pool of mostly legitimate voters, but I'm sure if there was a way to mess thing up, they'd find it!

I picked up a copy of the Army Times and Navy Times this week (October 13 issue).

Scroll down to “The Poll” and click on “The Charts” to see how the military voted in a poll that asked, “If the presidential election were held today, for whom would you vote?” It’s a real eye opener, but I’m not surprised.

They do it every election = and no one stops them. They mail the ballots out to late for the troops to get them and return them - and they throw out every one they can can with the smallest bogus excuse. If we don't win this race AND give McCain/Palin a majority - dump Reid/Pelosi, then it's over. the Marxists will have won - and I have heard not ONE peep for the RNC or people about the danger not just in leaving these people in power but that they stand a real chance of getting that dangerous filibuster-proof 60% majority.

They wouldn't let republican bills even get to the floor for a vote - what do you think McCain/Palin can do if these people stay in control and/or get even stronger?

I just don't get it. This is the worst Congress we've ever seen and have single digit approval - yet they look to carry off the election.

And it's THEY, along with obama, that have caused this economic disaster - yet the republicans and McCain are being blamed for it.

I'm getting very tired - I'm a great granny.I want not to be so afraid for my country, my kids and grandkids and likely several generations yet to come.

I'd like to just go back into the north woods where I grew up and hunker down.

For right now, though, I'm taking this ole head to bed - it's after 4

As a former Californian who moved to the Pacific Northwest, I have to tell you most people fleeing California are conservatives.

What I found in the NW was a whole lot of easterners carrying liberalism and a Democrat sense of entitlement out here to the western lands.

I’ll hazard the guess most of those so-called Californians originated from back east.

This gets a little complicated. Much of what you say is correct. But the eastern migration happend some time ago. I don’t know the situation where you are but the Californians I see here were born and bred there. Well not exactly in every case. I’d like to take this up with you at a latter date. It’s way past my bed time.

it stands to reason that democrats would be hesitant to count the ballots of American soldiers.

why would anyone want to count the votes of people who are killing their friends and allies on battlefields in the middle east?

(there is no end to democrat treachery.)

IMHO

It's awful. I applied for my absentee ballot in late August and STILL haven't received it. I did call my county voting office a few days ago and they mailed it on October 2, so I expect it any day now.

But the only way we can do it is to SNAIL MAIL the request and SNAIL MAIL the ballot back.

They really, really, really need to fix this.

We lived and voted in Palm Beach County in 2000 and we were very familiar with FL throwing out military ballots.

Funny how (ducking for cover) the Marine Corps has the highest favor of all the services voting for a Republican President.

Just saying.
