As John McCain's campaign hits hard at some of Barack Obama's past associations, one person closely tied to the Democratic candidate is conspicuously absent from the attacks: the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. It is an omission that some Republican strategists and McCain supporters find puzzling and frustrating.
In advertisements, in Web videos and on the campaign trail, McCain repeatedly heaps scorn on Obama for his ties to convicted Chicago financier Antoin "Tony" Rezko and to William Ayers, a former member of the Weather Underground, the violent 1970s radical group. The Republican nominee never mentions Wright, the controversial black minister once described by Obama as his spiritual adviser and whom some strategists see as better target than Rezko or Ayers.
McCain made it clear this spring, after Wright's inflammatory sermons became a problem for Obama, that he was opposed to making the pastor a campaign issue. When the North Carolina Republican Party aired an ad using clips of Wright's sermons to cast Obama as an extremist, McCain condemned the commercial at a town hall meeting.
"All I can do is publicly state that that is not in keeping with the tradition of the party of Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan," McCain said. "And I will bring every pressure to bear that I can to stop it."

I think McCain is seeking civility, but it’s a hard road. At this point, I’m voting for him no matter what.
It stinks, but there it is.
the rest of the country
is not as civil as the u.s. senate,
nor do we have the same health care.
Mayhap, Obamas former pastor should have remained just as mum. Just sayin
It’s a crazy world when a man who isn’t racist can’t point out the vile comments of a man who is a racist because he’s afraid of being called a racist. The liberals have done a superb job of making everyone afraid to tell the simple, naked truth.
I think McCain is like an old grandpa. He remembers the good old days and trys his darndest to be above the fray. The problem is he is dealing in the 2008s and he needs to get with the program ...FAST and act like he is fighting the Viet Cong. Enough of being the Naval Office....get in the trenches and fight. This O guy is evil...and he has demonstrated that blatantly. He will cheat to win this election....and he will say whatever needs to be said....McCain needs to show he can lead in this century and he needs to do it now.
Where are the 527’s this year for the Republicans?
So we will now have our first affirmative action President?
...crickets
If McCain is worried about being characterized as a racist because he brings up Obama's 20 year association with a black, anti-semitic racist who preaches hate against America, then he deserves to lose.

Mum is the word with McPain .
You don’t think it has anything to do with that Pastor Muthe, whom they have on video with Sarah Palin talking about how the Jews deserve the bombings by the Palestineans?
Well said.
If Wright is used, it will be over the last weekend. End Game (unless they have a different bomb to drop).
Logic??? Since when do Liberals or clueless "moderates" function logically?
Sorry, I am worried about people who can't think critically.
But would this characterization be true or false? Answer: false. He needs to borrow the Truman line that he isn't giving his opponent hell, he is merely telling the truth and they think it's hell. Moreover, you cannot let your enemy (Obama and the media) dictate to you what attacks you can or cannot make.
I remain totally baffled why McCain won't go after Jeremiah Bullfrog.
Obama has been a member of a racist church for 20 years, the Trinity United Church of Christ. The theme of Pastor Wrights theology is summarized in Trinity Church’s mission statement:
We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain true to our native land, the mother continent, the cradle of civilization.
Imagine the scorn that would be heaped (deservedly so) upon a white church with a mission statement that read, We are a congregation which is Unashamedly White...
In a recent interview on the Fox News Channel, Wright explained that black liberation theology is based on the teachings of Dr. James Cone, among others, who, in his book Black Theology and Black Power, explained black liberation theology as follows:
Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community.... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy.
Obama repudiate Wright when it became politically necessary, but he never repudiated the theology.
The fact is that Barack Obama has been for 20 years, up until very recently, a member of a racist organization. Who could imagine that a 20 year member of the Ku Klux Klan could be a serious candidate for President of the United States.
Since the liberals and the media already are decrying attacks on the Ayers connection as well as the Fannie/Freddie connection as racist anyway, I don't think this is a big issue. (It is also a false issue, since one of the big concerns about Wright is that HE is a blatant racist.)
Has anyone noticed how smug and arrogant Obama is right now? It is sickening to watch him state how he is going to bring the country together
Yes. Ayers is white, Rezko is Syrian. Plus I think you can make the following argument: Ayers is a terrorist and Rezko is a felon; Wright is just an a**hole. While all make dubious associates, the preacher is not a criminal. Plus his story got a lot of play a few months back, while the other two were ignored...
Barack Obama isn't mentioning him, either.
Make signs to tape on inside of top or bottom of back window (w/o obstructing view) -- or inside back window of car
The only way Barack Obama will be elected President is for us to fail to tell enough voters.
