Boise area could set record if measurable snow falls Friday or Saturday
Winter weather won't hit the Boise area anywhere near as hard as eastern Idaho this weekend, but we're still within a few flakes of setting a weather record.
The earliest measurable snow recorded in the fall season in Boise was Oct. 12, 1969, according to Megan Thimmesch, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Boise. The term measurable for snow includes .10 inch or greater.
"We've been getting reports right up here in the Foothills at the Boise/Ada county line and at Ourada Ranch that it started snowing about 4:30 p.m.," she said. "We've been watching the Bogus Basin web cams and, yes, they have snow at Bogus Basin. But also Idaho City."
The snowfall also has meant people are sliding off the roads, especially on Idaho 21, so officials are urging travelers to be cautious.
If snow accumulates through Saturday, it would be one day ahead of the 1969 record. Thimmesch said the earliest in the fall season that Boise has seen 1 inch or more of snow was Oct. 29, 1991. Records have been kept since 1940.

Palin (and my 2.5 yr old grandson) has inspired me to get back into snow fun.
Maybe Indiana will have some real snow this year.
Oh and I got a 4wd Jeep to try out also, LOL.
Ah bummer. Down on the river (Garden City) it’s sticking good.
Wasn’t ready for snow in October so my bikes, scrap project lumber, and various other things in the back are covered in about 1/4” of fluff right now.
No snow out here in Eagle...just rain.
I spent a couple weeks in the winter in Boise a few years ago. Winters are pretty mild there.
