October 10, 2008 - Ed Snider, CEO of the Flyers, is using his team, the Rangers New York Rangers and the NHL as stage props to advance his own political agenda, and it doesn't appear the league can or is willing to do a thing about it. Tomorrow night, when the Flyers play their home opener against the Rangers, Gov. Sarah Palin will drop the ceremonial first puck in what Snider's team is positioning as an homage to hockey moms.
This is how the participation of the Republican Party's nominee for vice president was portrayed in a press release late Wednesday afternoon. Odd that the release omitted reference to Snider's public support of the John McCain-Palin ticket, isn't it?

I love Ed Snider (owner Flyers and Sixers).
Color me confused
Puck you Larry!
Larry Brooks, you idiot.
She is a public figure, a well-known hockey mom. She is loved by everybody except the left-wing whack-os, a group of which you are apparently a member.
Sounds like you stopped too many pucks with your head.
Ya think this was written by a NY Rangers fan for a NY paper? I thought so.
If this were BHO he’d be feeling a warm, wet sensation down his leg...
great frogs think alike
She’s welcome to drop the puck at a Dallas Stars game anytime. You might also enjoy this, from the Stars’ color guy:

Hockey moms don't use words like 'homage', you (expletive deleted).
This is a COLUMN that needs to be credited to it’s author Larry Brooks.
Larry Brooks is a male chauvenist pig.
um...throw like a girl much?
Larry, those Gay Pride parade tickets will still be at the box office waiting on you, don’t worry.
Using your logic, Sarah Palin appearing on SNL constitutes an endorsement of her by NBC. And since NBC is part of General Electric (a publicly traded company), this appearance implies that all shareholders of GE endorse Palin.
Although I am sure many of them do because they don’t want the capital gains tax doubled on them. Especially when they will just be recouping what they lost on the way down.
Proud to be from Philly!!!!! Go Palin!!!!
Better put some ice on that.

Who could forget this mighty pitch (snark)?
Lawwwwy, methinks youwr panties are bunchin’ a wittle....
I couldn’t care less whether an NHL team owner is using his position to promote a political agenda. That’s between him and the ticket buyers. Palin is a star, no doubt about it. I’m guessing they’re going to get their money’s worth.
Every time some Costas bemoans the purity of sport being corrupted, I want to punch them in the face. Might as well speak of the purity of sit-coms, or the purity of county fairs. It’s entertainment!
Barack Obama wants to be there to throw out the ball for the MLS Communist football, errrrr, Soccer League.
Yeah, shut ta puck up, Larry.
Her puck drop was shameful? What happened, she didn’t get it across the plate? ;)
I’m sure this dude is just as passionate about Oprah, Ellen DeGeneres and the entire MSM, et al being in the tank for Obama and trying to throw the election at every turn /sarc
I think the writer got smacked in the head by a puck one too many times. What a complete a-hole.
She will draw fans, that’s all they care about.
I’m sure the penguins would love to have Biden, Obama, or even Barney Frank drop the puck if they thought it increase attendance.
I greatly appreciate Mr. Snider’s gesture toward Governor Palin.
That said...Go Dodgers!
gnip...
Sure a regional sport like hockey should turn down it’s biggest publicity opportunity in years.
Regardless of politics it seems like any hocky fan would like the boost to public awareness.
Now I am going to google hockey and find out what it is.
How different is that from sKerry at a ballgame, throwing the first pitch halfway to the plate?
Sounds to me like Larry Brooks is talking in that strange double-speak democrat language that is all too familiar. Good thing if the left does it, Bad thing if the right does it. Hey Larry, who cares if you don’t like it!
Soooo, and if this were being done for Obama, would it qualify as a monstrous scandal?
He was a remarkable announcer and has always been a good writer on NHL matters, but on this one he's full of sh!t.
One of Snider's claims to fame is that he himself paid for the arena in Philadelphia where the Flyers play. I hate the Flyers, but I gotta respect that!
Larry Brooks is known as one the biggest joke columnists in hockey. He can barely contain his man-love for the Rangers in anything he writes. He’s one of these jerks who always has to wear their heart on their sleeve while writing a column. You know that this clown would have to have the lotion on hand in the pressbox if Obama was to drop the puck at a Ranger game at MSG.
Lets Go Islanders!
LOLOLOLOL...........Oh My...........LOLOLOL......oh really enjoying the hysterics.

Here's what a "first pitch" is supposed to look like.
Effin' Kerry looks like a complete wanker, and 0bama doesn't look much better.
Larry Brooks has to know Barack Obama would be booed at almost every sporting event there is except Mens Figure Skating.
I know what I’d like to do with that puck but Larry would probably like that too much.
He throws like a girl.
great frogs think alike”
Ping to FrogHawk
Is Kerry completely incapable of throwing a baseball 60 feet, 6 inches? He looks like he’s 10-15 feet in front of the rubber.

HA HA!
Rush has always said the sports press is teeming with liberals. This is just more evidence.
Or Jean Francois Kerri.
And going on Oprey, or the view or some of these other lib fests is not political?
What a fool.
