Candidates silence on immigration irks Latinos
Sacramento Bee ^ | 10 Oct 2008 | Susan Ferriss

Posted on 10/10/2008 11:36:17 AM PDT by BGHater

Two presidential debates later, and still no comment from John McCain or Barack Obama on the issue of illegal immigration.

With anxiety over the economy high, immigration has faded from the national stage and become an inconvenient topic for candidates, said Efrain Escobedo, voter engagement director for the nonpartisan National Association of Latino Elected Officials, or NALEO.

Ironically, though, Escobedo said, the election's outcome could hinge on how each candidate frames immigration and how many Latino votes he can win in four swing states: Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado and Florida.

Both candidates are trying to connect with Latinos in those states who have been stung by anti-immigrant rhetoric they regard as racially tinged. The candidates want such voters to know they want increased immigration enforcement but also a path for an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants to try to earn legal status.

McCain may have the more difficult task.

He once earned the respect of Latinos – and the wrath of many immigration hardliners in his own party – for championing so-called comprehensive reform. The Republican nominee now says he won't consider legalization or visa reform before Southwest governors certify that the U.S.-Mexico border is secure.

However, the Republican platform contradicts McCain by rejecting amnesty or "en mass legalizations."

The Rev. Sam Rodriguez, Sacramento-based president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, an evangelical network, is a social conservative leaning toward voting for McCain.

He has spoken with McCain about immigration and is convinced he has a commitment to legalization. But Rodriguez says he is bothered that the McCain campaign's message on immigration changes "according to the venue."

Well, if we had a REAL Presidential candidate, who cared about our borders, our laws, our soverignty, and the REAL American citizens -— the Latinos (illegals) would not like what they would be hearing.

Run the tax-sucking, demoRAT-voting, trouble-making, prison-filling criminals back across the border and BUILD A FENCE to keep them out.

It’s a sad day when in America when illegal aliens even think they have a “right” to have a say or influence in American elections. Our forefathers would be astounded. The years of ignoring the problem, followed by outright pandering, have made them bold.

mcCain won’t talk about it for fear that the grassroots will just leave him high and dry. Obama won’t talk about it because he’s afraid it’s spark a surge of Conservatives to make sure they got to the polls and voted against him.

Either way, though, whoever is in will open the floodgates.

Obama’s speech to La Raza:
(La Raza (The Race), Largest Hispanic organization in the U.S.
Lobbies for racial preferences, bilingual education, stricter hate crimes laws, mass immigration, and amnesty for illegal aliens )

Obama pimps illegal aliens. Considering the additional violent crime, third word diseases they bring into this country and the billions of dollars it cost us to take care of them.

SHAMEFUL!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEITOQfKVmo
“I walked the walk. I talked the talk. I marched with you for “civil rights” of “immigrants”. (!!)

SHAMEFUL!!

Obama said the recent Senate immigration debate “was both ugly and racist in a way we haven’t seen since the struggle for civil rights.”

SHAMEFUL!!

Obama told La Raza that the mass protests lately of for immigration rights of Mexicans is equal in greatness to the civil rights protest of the past!

SHAMEFUL!!

Omama supports La Raza’s, the “DREAM Act,” which would mandate states to offer in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens — thus providing them with benefits not available to U.S. citizens from other states.

SHAMEFUL!!

The National Academy of Sciences has estimated that each immigrant without a high school degree will cost U.S. taxpayers, on average, $89,000 over the course of his or her lifetime.[3] This is a net cost above the value of any taxes the immi*grant will pay and does not include the cost of educating the immigrant’s children, which U.S. taxpayers would also heavily subsidize. In this way, the roughly six million legal immigrants without a high school diploma will impose a net cost of around a half-trillion dollars on U.S. taxpayers over their lifetimes

All I needed to know about immigration (and any open borders policy *cough* McCain), I learned from an Email. Alot of these are from that WACKO right-wing militia group otherwise known as CNN.

1. $11 Billion to $22 billion is spent on welfare to illegal aliens each year by state governments. Verify

2. $2.2 Billion dollars a year is spent on food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches for illegal aliens. Verify

3. $2.5 Billion dollars a year is spent on Medicaid for illegal aliens. verify

4. $12 Billion dollars a year is spent on primary and secondary school education for children here illegally and they cannot speak a word of English! Verify

5. $17 Billion dollars a year is spent for education for the American-born children of illegal aliens, known as anchor babies. Verify

6. $3 Million Dollars a DAY is spent to incarcerate illegal aliens. Verify

7. 30% percent of all Federal Prison inmates are illegal aliens. Verify

8. $90 Billion Dollars a year is spent on illegal aliens for Welfare & social services by the American taxpayers. Verify

9. $200 Billion Dollars a year in suppressed American wages are caused by the illegal aliens. Verify

10. The illegal aliens in the United States have a crime rate that's two and a half times that of white non-illegal aliens. In particular, their children, are going to make a huge additional crime problem in the US Verify

11. During the year of 2005 there were 4 to 10 MILLION illegal aliens that crossed our Southern Border also, as many as 19,500 illegal aliens from Terrorist Countries. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, meth, heroin and marijuana, crossed into the U. S from the Southern border. Verify

12. The National Policy Institute, 'estimated that the total cost of mass deportation would be between $206 and $230 billion or an average cost of between $41 and $46 billion annually over a five year period.' Verify

13. In 2006 illegal aliens sent home $45 BILLION in remittances back to their countries of origin. Verify

14. 'The Dark Side of Illegal Immigration: Nearly One Million Sex Crimes Committed by Illegal Immigrants In The United States .' verify

The total cost is a whopping $338.3 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR.

they can take their race politics with them.

Take them back to where race politics are traditional - like Mexico or Zaire.

They are antithetical to the America ideal and have NO place here.

JOHN S. MCCAIN WOULD WIN 85% of UNDECIDED VOTERS in these last few days if he would EXPRESS HIS OPEN SUPPORT OF THE GOP 2008 PLATFORM ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION and he and Sarah Palin made Clear, Definitive Comments on Amnesty (their opposition) and The Fence (their support).

Obama could not answer this because his party's platform and he himself is for mass legalization of these invaders.

There you have it. This is how McCain get swoop up massive segments of the Undecideds.

Do YOU want him to do this?

Do YOU want him to win the election?

Does HE want to win the election?

Any wonder they call it the STUPID PARTY??

Also, RINOs by definition are compromisers without a strong clear moral center. Therefore, they WILL lose this election by not coming out on clearcut issues such as Immigration, that they could win HANDS DOWN all because they a) want to be politically correct; and b) fear being called a RAAAAACIST more than the do losing millions of contributors money on a failed Presidential race.

"Both candidates are trying to connect with Latinos in those states who have been stung by anti-immigrant rhetoric they regard as racially tinged."

While some rhetoric has been "racially tinged", the majority of the opposition is focused on the illegal aspect and most Latinos are smart enough to discern the difference unless we're speaking strictly of those who are purposefully interjecting race as a means to effect an end.
