Obama urges global response to financial crisis

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (AFP) – White House hopeful Barack Obama called for a global response to the deepening financial crisis Friday as ministers from the world's major wealthy democracies headed to Washington for emergency weekend talks.

"We also have to recognize that this is not just an American problem. In this global economy, financial markets have no boundaries," the Democrat told a crowd of several thousand in working-class Chillicothe in the battleground state of Ohio.

"So the current crisis demands a global response," Obama said on the final business day of a rollercoaster week which saw stocks dive worldwide, amid panic over fears of a global meltdown.

His call for a multinational approach comes a day before an urgent meeting in Washington with President George W. Bush, finance ministers from the Group of Seven major industrialized democracies and the heads of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

"They must take coordinated steps to restore confidence and to maintain our financial markets and institutions," Obama said.

Hmm, he said “We have to realize this is not just an American problem.” I thought it was 100% the results of the last eight years of George Bush’s policies??? Wow, that leaves McCain an opening if he would take it.....

We might have Carter Part II. And the audacity of Carter today to open his mouth about the economic crisis. He was such a champion of the economic crisis of the 1970s.

Day late and a dollar short, as usual. No specifics, he just mirrors what has already been said and is already being done.

I find it amazing so many people can be fooled by this big zero.

Take a look at how a few hundred politicians have “fixed” US markets today and then imagine what THOUSANDS of politicans across the globe can do to markets worldwide!

“Above my pay grade”.

You hit the mark.

What makes BO such a fool but at the same time very dangerous is his ability to hypnotize the ignorant.

First, the entire global financial system is going wide open trying to solve the problem, albeit not doing it very well.

But the point is, he is like a guy standing on the curb at a 5 alarm fire, fire engines, EMC, cops, everything working on it like mad. Every engine in town, every first responder in town working as hard as they can; and he is standing on the curb saying “Really, this is serious and we should get the fire department and all of our first responders on the scene.”

Brilliant. Put him in charge. He really figured out what to do.

How shallow can the news medial be? They should have put him on the funny page, not on the front page.

Except as Molly used to say: “It ain't funny, MGee.”

Uh Oh.

I missed the point.

You re right. What he is really calling for is not for the world markets to come up with a good idea and each apply the idea to their own economy.

He is heading in the direction of some world governing body taking over the worlds finances.

I am not sure that can happen. Reading the news, it appears that the European countries are going to split with each other in order to try to save their own bacon.

Each of them has taken steps that has only made the water closer to the boiling point in its neighboring countries.

Ireland sucking funds out of England's banks, etc.

This could be the end of the EU insofar as monetary policy goes.

But you are right. I missed the point. BO is headed towards a world banking system and I missed it.

Thank you for setting my clock.
