Of course they choose to do this at a time when it is too late to get a marriage ammendment on the ballot.

Supporters of Same Sex Marriage are planning to hold a press conference at 2pm at the Hilton Hotel in Hartford. They are also planning a rally regardless of the decision on the north steps of the State Capitol at 5:30pm.

hmmmm.... what's happening at the State Capitol at 5:30 pm??

Its not a marriage.

I don’t recognize it as such
The Catholic Church will not recognize it as such
And God won’t recognize it as such

what’s the procedure to change the CT constitution?

Every 20 years, there's an automatic provision on the ballot in which voters can opt to call a Constitutional Convention. It just happens that 2008 that provision is on the ballot. A constitutional convention could propose an amendment outlawing gay marriage, or it could add a ballot initiative provision to the state constitution.

Exactly - which is why I am strongly leaning towards voting "YES" for the Constitutional Convention.

Only problem with this: the far-left gay marriage supporting Democratic legislature are the ones who would elect the delegates to the Constitutional Convention.

I must not be as smart as their Supreme Court. I looked for that "right" in their Constitution (Preamble in link because that loads much quicker than the whole file), and I couldn't find it or even any phrase that could reasonably be interpreted in that manner.

Connecticut has no initiative so voters in the state are screwed. But this only means the measures in CA, AZ and FL are certain to pass next month. The Massachusetts disease is spreading due to liberal judicial activism.

Connecticut Supreme Court Backs Gay (sic) Marriage (sic)

I'm certainly in favor of cheerful, happy, gay marriages. But to make-believe that two people of the same sex can be married is ludicrous, a journey to fantasy-land.

What's next? Invisibility licenses? Unicorn licenses? Time-travel licenses?

Sheesh. Come back to reality, folks.

I believe that one of them - Sullivan - is actually “retired” and only sits in as needed. He’s for the most part a good guy. He lives in Waterbury, my city - probably the most Conservative “blue city” in the country. Mostly all Democrats, but not too many liberal tendencies.

None. One of the judges, William Sullivan (a Republican) holds "senior status," which means he doesn't join opinions of the full court.

Doing nothing always leads to defeat. Republicans seem to be very good at doing....nothing....these days. I doubt their grandchildren are going to thank them for it.

I hope the people of Conn. are outraged. I mean......thoroughly outraged. There's an election coming up, and forced homosexual normalcy is left wing, i.e., Oboma.

This happens becuase ...
Gov. M. Jodi Rell said Friday that she disagreed, but will not fight the ruling.

"The Supreme Court has spoken," Rell said in a statement. "I do not believe their voice reflects the majority of the people of Connecticut. However, I am also firmly convinced that attempts to reverse this decision - either legislatively or by amending the state Constitution - will not meet with success."

... those in offices and positions of power an authority allow it, they surrender to it.

May our dear G-d give us the strength withstand this, and the help to do what "Governors" are not doing. To fight it. To prevail for the good.

I'm fearing that it's almost time to move out of Connecticut. I don't want to - I love it here. The weather and seasons are great, there's plenty to do, the proximity to large cities like Boston and NYC is perfect - but the more liberal the state becomes, the more embarrassing it is to say I live here.

I have no idea what to do to change this trend.

It's seriously super frustrating. I'd move back to upstate NY where I am originally from, but it looks like they're on the same path as CT, MA, CA...

Democrats, even those on the bench, tell us the U.S. Constitution is flexible.
That means the rule of law is flexible.
If that is the case the law and the Constitution mean nothing.
It means that the law and the Constitution are twisted by the whims and fancies of the moment.

Yeah, that's how many I count as well. There are 8 of 'em, but the decision was 4-3. Which 3 wrote the dissenting opinions?

I'm outraged by this... just wrote to my state senator John Kissel (R), but I suspect - like MA and CA - this will remain the Law of the Land, and we're stuck with it. State by state, gay marriage will be legal in the majority of the US (at least in the blue states) before we know it.

This country is truly going to hell in a handbasket... :-(

The NY Constitution specifically states marriage is between a man and a woman.

That's why the politicians in NY city tried to get gender erased from birth certificates. Their idiotic attempts failed, of course.

Yup. My husband wants to get out of Connecticut in a BIG way lately, mostly due to the liberalism and high taxes here. Unfortunately we're stuck here because of his job and my family for the time being, anyway. Someday - I'm not sure when - we will most likely move to a Red State. There's so much I would miss about CT and New England as well, but it's getting tougher and tougher to put up with this crap with each passing year.

We love Virginia, and have considered moving there, but it appears that even former Red State Virginia is quickly going from "purple" to Blue, which I find incredibly appalling and sad...

West Virginia is a very Democratic state but with all the red necks here I just can not imagine queer marriage passing here.

In fact there was a case in Huntington, WV where a gay man was robbed and beaten into a coma. He came out of it but there are days where he is on Planet Earth and days he is not. The man who did it only got two week in jail and there are some who say he got away with it because the man he beat was queer. We even had bigwigs from DC in to investigate this and it was on WOWK-TV. I believe there are a lot of homophobes in Huntington, as well as the rest of the state.

You could come here!

Article: Conn. Supreme Court rules in favor of same-sex marriage case

State of Connecticut Judicial Branch (click on Kerrigan v. Commissioner of Public Health and Dissents 1-3)

Check out an excerpt of the ruling:

Like these once prevalent views, our conventional understanding of marriage must yield to a more contemporary appreciation of the rights entitled to constitutional protection. Interpreting our state constitutional provisions in accordance with firmly established equal protection principles leads inevitably to the conclusion that gay persons are entitled to marry the otherwise qualified same sex partner of their choice. To decide otherwise would require us to apply one set of constitutional principles to gay persons and another to all others. The guarantee of equal protection under the law, and our obligation to uphold that command, forbids us from doing so. In accordance with these state constitutional requirements, same sex couples cannot be denied the freedom to marry.

Disgusting and infuriating...

I hear you and I’m sorry to had to happen to you as well

My wife is from Ma, sometimes it was embarrassing travelling the country with a MA plate as when we got talking to folks they all thought we were far left looney homo loving radicals.

After the homo sham marriage was forced on the people even though the people wanted to vote on it and the were denied(so much for tax with representation).

Anyway we moved out of that awful state and it was the best thing we ever did. it wasn’t hard for me as I ma not from there but the wife who is said she is finally happy to get out.

We know many others who moved after that sham marriage or because of how looney left it has become and they either moved south or most moved to NH.
That way they were still near family, some near their job and they still had the same weather sort of.

I would recommend getting out to NH as many other republicans have done.
At least you are helping to keep the state a bit red

god luck but honestly move out now

Wow. Where in any Constitution does it say that any behavior, no matter how vile, has to be considered normal under the law? What about bestiality? If an animal will stand, it gives it's consent. Why can't, under this description of Constitutional protections, humans marry animals? This description also opens the door for foot fetishists to marry shoes.
