LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Oliver Stone's film portrait of U.S. President George W. Bush was always going to be controversial given the director's liberal leanings.
So Stone decided to open "W." in U.S. theatres less than three weeks before Americans select their next president -- a calculated move aimed at prodding voters to think about the past eight years and the future.
The movie is part drama, part satire, yet the director of "JFK" and "Nixon" argues it is no hatchet job on Bush -- and so far, critics agree. The final verdict awaits the October 17 debut for one of this fall's most widely anticipated films.
"Whoever wins this election, Bush's impact has changed the world," Stone told Reuters. "This man has left us with three wars -- in Iraq, Afghanistan and the war on terror -- and the legacy of the pre-emptive strike........"

Based on the promos I’ve seen for the flick it is beyond a hatchet job. Apparently it’s lost on Stone that ours is the only country in the world where such a thing could be released while W is actually still President. How can they so hate America when they profit so handsomely from it ?
To: Anti-Bubba182
I've seen some of his past films and I'm just going to sit this one out. The best way for me to voice my anti-liberal position is to hit him in the wallet by not seeing his film. If enough people feel the same, he'll get the message.

What an ignorant, arrogant, asinine view. Despite all his faults, W has cippled terrorism. Liberals don’t like any war, even when that war brings peace.

I’ll bet this will be yet another box office bust, People want to go to the movies (especially right now!) for a little escape from politics. Much as I’d like to support “An American Carol” I just have no appetite for it right now.

yawn, I'm sorry wasn't paying attention. Oliver Stone made a movie? That's nice..... it's about President Bush... and it's not malicious.
This really is going to be a blockbuster film for him I guess. Probably will be a "classic" that will go right next to Zyzzyx Road, and War,Inc.
I can't wait for these clowns to face the facts that movies are "disposable" income and that they keep losing market share to Youtube and other forms of entertainment, they might have to start making movies with a profit.
Stone can go hump goats for all I care.

A few years ago I saw an interview with actor Ron Silver. He was a lifelong Democrat who is now an Independent. He describes himself as a liberal who was mugged on 9/11 and spoke at the 2004 Republican National Convention in NYC.
He was asked why Hollywood doesn’t make good movies anymore. He replied that they don’t have to as they don’t care about box office like they used to. They are now going for DVD sales and more important foreign releases where anti American slanted films do well.

I saw the advertisement for this movie and a clip was of President Bush talking about “History? In history, we’ll all be dead”.
Was this supposed to be a slam? Because it just reminded me how funny President Bush is. He has irritated me with this bailout nonsense, but I always thought he had a good sense of humor.
