Hey Obama, if the polls are right, why buy the half hour?
The Collins Report ^ | October 10, 2008 | Kevin “Coach” Collins

Posted on 10/10/2008 5:10:16 AM PDT by jmaroneps37

Some polls say John McCain is falling behind. I will believe these polls when I see headlines screaming :

“Catholics, Evangelicals, and Whites abandoning McCain to support Obama”

The media is reporting there’s a “ fight among Catholics over which party to support.” They offer wishful thinking, but no proof to support this claim.

The last Catholic voter numbers said McCain led 57/36 among this group that will be 26% of voters. Where are the new “bad Catholic” numbers for McCain?

Where are the “new” poll numbers of Evangelicals ( 15% of voters) showing shrinking support for McCain and Sarah Palin?

Where are the “new” White male (43%) poll numbers showing Obama even keeping pace with the 36% Al Gore and John Kerry got?

If the Obama “surge” is because of a major swing of women toward him, what about the 28% of Clinton backers still supporting McCain?

If Obama has “all” Independents, where are the numbers?

Last week two polls had McCain ahead with Independents (26%) by 15 and a third had him down 5.

Of course there’s Black voters, but there has not been a single poll showing Obama actually getting the 95% from Blacks he needs. Where are the stories talking about Obama’s shortfall in this column?

We don’t hear this much, but Obama needs huge and almost impossible increases in Black turnout and 95% support from Blacks plus holding all White voters Kerry got to win. Have we seen a single story in the last three months talking about this obstacle? Where are the survey results that Obama is getting better than the standard 92% of the Black vote that any Democrat gets?

If Barack Obama really believed he is winning big, would he buy the half hour?

His private polls might be telling him otherwise..

If the media had the internals showing big movement to Obama we would be seeing and hearing all about them. Why would the Obama campaign or the media fail to report these big swings? Hmmmmmmm?

Obama may be thinking the following:
1. Run up the score - a 300 pt. electoral college would be a heck of a mandate for his Presidency.
2. Do not make the same mistakes as Gore/Kerry - keep pouring it on until after election day - he has got the money so spend it - don’t leave a dime in the bank.

McCain is running a Dole style campaign against one of the greatest incumbant head winds in history. He is not a very good candidate and is only advantage is that, after all is said and done, Obama is no Bill Clinton. Clinton would be up by 20 points with the same set of circumstances.

Half the time they don't even show the internals on these polls. I suppose we're to take it on faith. NOT.

As a Catholic all I can say is anyone who calls himself such and votes for the man child has been asleep in the pew for the last 20yrs.

(As an aside, last Sunday at Mass their was a non-partisan handout in the vestibule on the positions that each candidate takes on issues of importance to the Catholic Church. Anybody who took 5 minutes to look at this handout would realize who the Church thought was the better candidate and I'll give you a hint: It wasn't the false messiah.)

What a dumb proposition.

The larger the margin of win, the larger mandate for pushing his agenda.

The larger the margin of win, the bigger the coat tails for getting a super majority in congress.

If he has the cash, he should spend it and get his message out to as large an audience as possible.

Using this event as proof O’Bama is losing is one of the largest examples of denial by some FReepers in a long time.

Obama is all about "oratory"...clean and articulate as Biden says.

It's strictly image...

He's relaxed when he gives a "practiced speech" with a big friggin' monitor. No one listens to what he really says...It's the tone and nothing more than empty rhetoric.

If you had money (Coming all over the place) to burn why not.

I find it ironic that the guy who pushed campaign finance reform is getting taught a lesson on how to pervert the process even more.

GOP are afraid to fight and get dirty, it is a country club mentality going against a street fight artist. The attacks seem to be a very cautious effort which fail to hammer at a huge target in Obama. Ayers, but let us keep our distance.

Get rolled over by where you can score the most points at, the debates. But no, the GOP agrees with hyper controlled debate formats that plays into a deceivers hand.

Because he can. Because he has so much illegal money. Because he wants to sew it up. Because he wants a super duper mandate. Because he wants even more attention. Have to go now, but I could give more answers.

Rassmussen and Gallup never reveal their internals of percentages. They say targets but never say if they meet those targets or are overstretching them.

Susa has been way over sampled.
PPP is way way way ridiculously oversampled.

I always think it funny that MSM puts out, Obama needs to be at least 10 ahead to counter bradley effect and voila within 3 days Gallup is there.

Go figure.

Except the talking heads, who will all be watching with their pants down at their ankles.

To overwhelm what little chance McCain has.

To give the image of inevitability.

To project power and capability to do it.

There are lots of good reasons to do it.

Why do this? He needs one last try at the public with a teleprompter and he needs to keep the college students focused because they never show-up in numbers enough to swing close states. They will use hollywood stagecraft to make him look presidential, it would not surprise me if they stick him in front of a replica of the oval office or some palace.
In any case, I won't be watching.

yeah but that also has the opposite effect, saturation pisses people off too, its like give me a break, just shut up mentaility. It can turn voters off too. That happened in the primaries, he annoyed people with too much advertising.

I agree that many of us are in denial, myself included. I can’t fathom the Obama has a strong chance of becoming our next president. There seems to be a perfect and “arranged” storm of circumstances that surround this election. The background economic stories are all trumpeting out the sound of the stuff that is being thrown against Obama. Several posts in other threads are saying that the stock market is tanking because of a potential Obama presidency. I would not be surprised that this is all orchestrated so that if he does win, that everything will miraculously recover, or lead to a new type of economy - not communism, but some form of Socialism that is more acceptable/palatable to even us. When desperation hit (family, kids, hunger), even a good percentage of Freepers will slip to the other side. This to just re-enforce the view of the work that he is their saviour. Some people are throwing the term that he is the “anti-christ”. Not sure about that...since supposedly the anti-christ is born outside of the US(unless someone can prove that he was born in the middle-east). He may simply be the next step in that progression...

Neverless, after this ramble, I will still do my part and vote...I am confident that God doesn’t have a plan “B”. In earthly terms, we may be having a rough time, but this is all part of His plan to bring us closer and to rely on Him.

Obama is no Bill Clinton. Clinton would be up by 20 points with the same set of circumstances.

Considering that he's a mulatto from Kenya or Indonesia or wherever the hell he's from, and considering his names rhyme with all our recent enemies, he's doing pretty well for a socialist. Clinton has the bubba factor, which helped him sell himself to America.

Hindsight's 20/20, but I think Huckabee would have had the best chance to beat the DEMs. I didn't support Huckabee (Im named for Huck Finn) but I was impressed by his cageyness. He has the ability to attack very softly and gently.

He was rejected for being a nanny stater, but had we known we were gonna get McCain, I wonder if Huckabee wouldn't have been a better choice. McCain truly is Bob Dole redux. If it weren't for Palin, he'd be down 10-15 points.

I read that this is basically how they chose the audience for the townhall debate:

Q: Who will you be voting for?

A: Obama.

Q: Any chance you might change your mind?

A: Anything’s possible.

Q: Would you like to participate in the audience of “independent” voters at the townhall debate?

A: Sure.

This is what passed for an independent, not-having-made-a-choice-yet, audience. Not to mention, the questions favoring lib-think - chosen out of supposedly hundreds of thousands - are also suspect.

You could tell by the way they were fawning all over BO that they were his from the git-go. No self-respecting McCain supporter would have done that.

The deck was stacked against McCain and they still couldn’t say BO won.

So if this is any example of the way the pollsters are asking questions, I’m suspicious. They have to show results that reflect the internals sooner or later, don’t they?

I find it interesting that, of those who are yelling “self delusion and denial” not one commenter has addressed the point of this piece. Not one has said the Catholic or White male or White women or Evangelical or Jewish or former Clinton supporter numbers have changed and proved it.

Look of course we would like the polls to show better. Nevertheless, saying those who still want to fight are in denial in the absence of proof is just preparing yourselves for a defeat you dread. We all dread defeat but I for one want proof. There has been none forthcoming as of today. Maybe it will come, maybe it won't come.

No one has refuted the underlining point that if the internals were there they would be front page EVERYDAY until Nov 4.

Finally, saying all this stuff about Obama spending the money because he can is just an opinion. It is still true that when you are explaining you are not winning. I've been in losing campaigns and winning campaigns and that part never changes: When you are explaining you are losing.
Let's keep working until Obama proves this is wrong. Let's keep working until he proves he can close the deal.

Does this buy have something to do with Obama’s Ayers/ACORN problems? Let's see.

I am worried that all this hysteria and inevitability talk by the Obama camp will lead to something terrible by a kook on our side. I know people have thought it here but it’s verboten to talk about. We don’t do things that way here in the USA, but frustration and this deliberate polarization by the Obama camp could lead them to a place they don’t want to go. Like Glenn Beck said, the McCain supporters seem to confine their vitriole to Obama and his policies, the Obama supportrs seem to hate the populace supporting McCain. Important distinction.

Here’s what I think:

The polls are “weighted” according to the registered voters party affiliation in any given state.

So, if ACORN has illegally registered thousands and thousands of people (dems) the poll takers misguidedly lead give Obama a lead anywhere from 3 to 7 or 8%. That’s before the first call is even made. Kind of like affirmation. Because dems have more registered voters they get the lead.

Now...remember that Rush last summer told repubs to register in the dem primary? I suppose that adds to their delusional weighting.

That’s my take...so I’m not panicking. I believe the truth IS that McCain is WAY ahead

IMHO, 0bama is doing this to try to drive a stake into McCain’s political heart. 0bama’s success or failure come election day has always been about whether or not he can convince voters he can be trusted with the job. The time slot gives him a half-hour to sell himself as a “common-sense” candidate, putting the character issue to rest without fear of interruption or immediate rebuttal.

I’m not buying any of it, of course. I’m just sayin’ that’s what I think he’s going to try to do.

All this ACORN voter fraud may actually be part and parcel of the future rioting. The ACORNistas will have lists of the people they signed up (the ones that actually exist, that is) and they can “help them along”, and those people just signed up may be just the kind of people who like to riot and may have experience! Plus since I have long maintained that the only way Obamination can win is with massive voter fraud, they may be hoping not to win but to make it so close that they can contest it and riot. I think that is really the plan, especially considering the Odinga connection and Ayers/Alinksy connection. Obamination is a new generation super-hard leftist commie.
