A federal judge on Thursday ordered Ohio's top elections official to verify the identity of newly registered voters by matching them with other government documents.
U.S. District Judge George C. Smith in Columbus ruled that Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner must perform verification required by the Help America Vote Act. That includes matching new registrants' information against information in databases maintained by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles or the Social Security Administration.
The order was the result of a lawsuit the Ohio Republican Party filed against Brunner, a Democrat.
"Plaintiffs assert, and the court agrees, that it is hard to imagine a public interest more compelling than safeguarding the legitimacy of the election of the president of the United States," Smith wrote in his ruling.
Brunner also was ordered to establish a process by which Ohio's 88 county election boards can access information generated by the checks.
Residents registering to vote must provide their name, address, date of birth and either their driver's license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number.
Brunner has said the state matches registration information against data in the Bureau of Motor Vehicles system and the Social Security database. But she also has said federal law doesn't say what should be done if a mismatch is discovered, and it is up to counties to check the system for flagged registrations and investigate if warranted.
An after-hours call seeking Brunner's comment on the ruling was not immediately returned Thursday.
Republicans, who have been at odds frequently with Brunner, hailed the ruling.
"For some reason, Jennifer Brunner does not want these new registrations checked," said Ohio Republican Party Deputy Chairman Kevin DeWine.

It’s a Dem conspiracy. Bruner came into office and immediately scrapped Cuyahoga County’s new system after only one election cycle (it had no reported problems, but she made the decision).
She also allowed early voting, without proof of residency, and told election officials they were not required to allow monitors. If the AG hadn’t gotten caught up in a sexual harassment scandal, Ohio would have been stolen and protected by the Dem rats in Columbus.
The dems can’t win in fair (fight) vote.
If this ruling stands Ohio is REALLY in play.

The Republican Party had this lawsuit in place when they were fighting the—what we call the overlap voting, which is when absentee voting started, before the close of voter registration, which allowed people to go to an early voting site, register to vote, request an absentee ballot, and vote it on the spot.
In that original lawsuit, they were denied relief, first by the federal judge, and then again by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. But what they did was to try to renew a motion for a temporary restraining order and now push this effort. And what really concerns me is that the way these papers are pled, they’re looking for a list of all the mismatches by October 12th, and this is in light of the fact that at this point in time we are informed that the Social Security Administration will be shutting down its computers for the comparisons from the 10th to the 13th for maintenance over the holiday weekend. And they want that in time to—the Republican Party wants it in time to be able to file challenges twenty days before the election, to require ID, which is already required in Ohio, and also to push people into provisional voting”

I am certain that she is not trying to help the Democrats steal this election. She is a former judge with a very healthy respect for the law, and Ohio's election laws are not very precise on important points and not very complete on others. I believe that she is trying to give full force and effect to the laws, without showing a bias either way.
Voters' beef, if any, is without legislature for failing to create a fair and understandable and thorough process for handling elections.

Consider that in Obamao Commie Central, they are looking at these swelling voter rolls of Dhimmicrats that the ACORN folks have registered, and the majority of the registrations are pure garbage.
How will they tell the real voters from the fakes when they try to get out the vote? Whose door will they knock on?

I’d like to agree with that, but if she is trying to play it down the middle, why did she find a novel interpretation of Ohio Voting Laws to force open the 5 day early voting period to “whomsoever will”?
Secondly, why are there no Sec State of Ohio investigations into Project ACORN’s malfeasance? She is charged with ensuring the integrity of the election.
Thirdly, why the fight to try and keep any personal identifier information off cast ballots? the last 4 digits of a SSN is not a crushing burden.
She won’t follow this order, I predict.

When someone has to first state that they’re a “staunch conservative”, (or variations such as “lifelong Republican”), before they post paeans to a crooked partisan strumpet of a Democrat state official then they’re either A.) liars about their politics, B.) a liberal plant, or C.) BOTH.
I hope Brunner gets slapped down hard by the courts....IMHO she belongs in jail.

Once a couple of states that have honest AG’s start investigating ACORN, there is going to be a mess regardless of who wins the election. They’ve already been caught in too many states, with it well publicized, to get away with it now. And that will put the next Federal AG to make one tough decision, regardless of who wins. Obama’s gonna have a problem when he has to explain why a national organization he paid $800,000 to has officials indicted in many states for vote fraud on his behalf.
