Anger Is Crowd's Overarching Emotion at McCain Rally
Washington Post ^ | Oct 10, 2008 | Michael D. Shear and Perry Bacon Jr.

Posted on 10/09/2008 8:07:42 PM PDT by Mrs.O'Strategery

There's 26 days and people are looking at the very serious possibility that there's a chance that Obama might get in, and they don't like that," said Ian Eltrich, 28, as he filed out of the crowded sports complex.

"I'm mad! I'm really mad!" another man said, taking the microphone and refusing to surrender it easily, even when McCain tried to agree with him.

....In recent days, a campaign that embraced the mantra of "Country First" but is flagging in the polls and scrambling for a way to close the gap as the nation's economy slides into shambles has found itself at the center of an outpouring of raw emotion rare in a presidential race.

"I'm not done. Lemme finish, please," he said after a standing ovation. "When you have Obama, [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi and the rest of the hooligans up there going to run the country, we have to have our head examined.

"It's time that you two represent the rest of us. So go get 'em."

< snip >

That message was clearly shared among the crowd. Mike Payne, who traveled from Madison, Wis., for the rally, rejected the idea that McCain's supporters are angry, preferring to use the word "frustrated."

"It might have something to do with you guys," he told a reporter.

"It's not anger at all. It's frustration. There's millions of people around the country that think like we do. You guys refuse to acknowledge that, and you insult our intelligence by misreporting the information. You are treating [Obama] like he's Britney Spears and covering him like he's Paris Hilton, instead of the next president of the United States, potentially."

Ignore the polls. The MSM is lying to you.

The thought that we’re about to be under the absolute control of a party that looks at taxpayers the way pedophiles look at little boys?

That fills ME with anger too.

While the media tries to play this down and act as though Republicans are losing the election and losing their cool, I would like to add that I’m outraged as well. Americans that love their country, will not surrender their freedom nor their children and grandchildren’s futures to socialists. If anyone in the Congress or the mainstream media doubts that the American people are beyond angry, they better think again. The mainstream Liberal media is sadly mistaken in their assessment of the heartland of America. Don’t count us out ever. We were born of American pride. My father fought in WWII and in the Korean War. The World’s Greatest Generation didn’t sacrifice and die for us to throw this country and our freedom away to a Muslim Terrorist nor are our troops fighting in Iraq and Afganistan for us to elect a domestic terrorist.

Not likely, although I can see some white folks being less than enthusiastic about spending their money to prop up the economy during an Obama administration. Especially when you consider that he's about to tax the crap out of the rich.

It’s not too late to turn this election around. Look at how Obama got his butt kicked time after time in the late primaries against Hillary. This guy cant close the deal. Everyone except minorities, idiot college kids and mindless liberals get nervous about Obama because no one knows who he is and the media is making sure we cant find out.

This ACORN scandal may just blow up on the big O and move the vote to McCain in the last days.

Conservatives are frustrated, with good reason, IMHO.

I'm not in a position to donate financially at all. Since no one is eager to HIRE me, I have some free time so today I spent a couple of hours holding a McCain/Palin sign on a heavily traveled highway. :) There were 7 of us there were many honks and waves and thumbs up...a few fingers and cries 0bama!, but not many.

I also particiated in an organized (by a fellow FReeper) prayer chain for Palin and McCain before their debates.

I had a heck of a time finding any activity within the local Republican Party. Fortunately, I found the above event on the camp website and now I have two yard signs and some signage for the car.

Doing what I can has helped with the frustration I feel at this SILENT (national and local, IMHO) Republican Party we're dealing with.

The reason there is no excitement is because McCain has advocated a Socialist agenda by leaking his plan to spend $300B to buy up people’s bad mortgages.

This is not conservatism by any stretch of the imagination!

....during an Obama administration. Especially when you consider that he's about to tax the crap out of the rich.

The "rich" will not be taxed. They don't have to work or earn income.

The high earners who still need to earn income will have the crap taxed out of them.

"Income", not "wealth", is taxed in the U.S. Therefore, in the year when John Kerry was running for President, John Kerry was enjoying his wife's $500 million fortune but he paid less income taxes that year than I did.

I forgot my sarcasm tag when I mentioned “rich”. I was speaking in terms of Obama’s definition of “rich”. But your point is well taken. Mid to high income earners would face much higher taxes under Obama.

Damn right ... the McCain/Palin supporters have every right on earth to be angry. They represent the 95% of Americans who won’t get a tax break under Obama but who will be expected to foot the bill for the deadbeats the Dems insisted be granted mortages they would default on. But what can you do in a country where the lower 65% of the socio-economic scale fully expect the other 45% to carry them?

polls are a fraud just like those millions of newly registered "voters" are.....

but we've got tens of millions on our side....

Pray, and work, and donate, and volunteer and then vote, vote, vote.....

These folks aren’t mad about the possibility of Chairman Milhouse 26 days because they see at least half of the presidential ticket going after him. No, what they’re mad about is that with 26 days remaining, the Congressional Republicans are invisible.

McCain and Palin have nothing to lose by bringing up things about Obama, and for that matter driving home the fact the demorats took both sides of the congress and have not done a damn thing of any use in two years.
