Does Anyone Else Wonder If George Soros is the "X Factor" behind the oil and now subprime "crises"?
New York Post ^ | February 2, 2007 | Richard Johnson

Posted on 10/09/2008 7:16:24 PM PDT by ceoinva

SEN. Barack Obama might want to tell George Soros to shut up, now that the Hungarian-born billionaire has equated the George W. Bush administration with the Third Reich. Soros, who spent $26 million trying to beat Bush two years ago, is a key supporter of the media-darling Illinois Democrat's presidential campaign.

This election Soroa is probably 10X'ing his spend over what he spent in 2004 ... but is he using his expertise to manipulate the markets to get Obama elected?

Oil prices went up and McCain seized on it, selected Palin, was winning on the issue and rising in the polls.

So ... another "crisis" is need to elect Obama ... where is Soros in all of this ... sure seems to fit his MO. Anybody have any deeper knowledge and insight?

I’ve been thinking about this the past couple of days. This whole high gas price gig followed by the “financial crisis” is starting to appear as though it actually was orchestrated by someone to get Obama bin Laden into the Oval Office. I’m not a big conspiracy guy but I don’t believe in coincidences occuring in bunches either.

In an interview before the oil prices dropped, he said he was going short on oil & advised everyone else to do the same. I suspect he’s been making boat loads of money from the recent volatility. Maybe he is also a significant part of the cause of the wild swings.

I have wondered how the financial system could possibly be manipulated - both by unimaginably wealthy interests as well as the media. Soros and friends already are sworn to destroy teh American way of life so it wouldn’t be a shock - but I just can’t get my hands around it being a reality.

Soros doesn’t have anywhere near enough money to do it. However, if Putin, Chavez, and some of the other oil nations wanted to, they probably could do it. Risky, though, since there’s no guarantee it’ll work plus it could cost them a fortune. Heck, even Obama could turn on them if he felt it in his interest.

No. It's simple stupidity by our Gov’t and ourselves.

We couldn't keep using our Houses as Atms, allowing illegals and the poor to buy houses they couldn't afford.

Throw in high gas prices, while not drilling for domestic supplies. Millions of foreign nationals living in our country stealing work, sucking the money out of our hospitals and social services, Hurricanes doing tremendous damages to our infrastructure and you have a perfect storm.

You are not the only one. Another example would be all these bad loans ,however, they were more than likely a cement-the-vote type deal. Although the timing of their collapse seems odd. When the Dems refused regulation and just allowed these irresponsible pratices to continue then that is mighty suspect.

When it is all said and done only God knows a mans “heart” and he will be the ultimate Judge.

I have been saying this all along. Google “obama cloward piven.” Soros is in there. He and other hdge fund allies have at least $50 to 100 billion in capital times leverage they have probably $800 billion.

They made tens of billions just picking of companies one at a time like fish in a barrel. It is easy to do. Naked shorting was free plus you can use options and futures to short. This is the right hook then the haymaker to finish the company off is buying Credit Default Swaps (CDS).

This drives the cost for a company to insure their debt to where they cannot afford it. The next day you get downgraded by Moodys and S&P and you are bankrupt.

They just went down the list: Countrywide, Fannie, Freddie, Bear Stearns, Indy Mac, WAMU, Lehman, Wachovia and on and on.

They made probably $50 billion from that. Leverage it up and they have $500 billion more to drive the markets down.

The real virus was set with lawyer Obama suing banks to do CRAs while Obama was at ACORN. Infiltrate Fannie and Freddie (dem companies anyway) infect the global financial system with bad mtgs. HUD says illegal aliens have 5 million bad mtgs alone. You then pickoff the companies stuff with bad mtgs one at a time.

They are back at it on Morgan Stanley and Goldman. Goldman is a diversion because their ally from Omaha owns part of it. SEC removed shorts on financials today and the jackals were back on Morgan.

I definitely think George Soros is involved in this...he supported TRYING to oust Bush as written below and now supports OBAMA read this from Wikipedia. He will do ANYTHING to get his guy in, especially after being defeated by BUSH. Here is what is written on Wikipedia, but FR does not allow posting from there:

Soros is famously known for “breaking the Bank of England” on Black Wednesday in 1992. With an estimated current net worth of around $9 billion, he is ranked by Forbes as the 99th-richest person in the world.[1]

Currently, Soros is chairman of Soros Fund Management and the Open Society Institute and is also a former member of the Board of Directors of the Council on Foreign Relations. According to his own website, Soros claims his support for the Solidarity labor movement in Poland, as well as the Czechoslovak human rights organization Charter 77, contributed to ending Soviet Union political dominance in those countries.[4] His funding and organization of Georgia’s Rose Revolution was considered by Russian and Western observers to have been crucial to its success, although Soros said his role has been “greatly exaggerated.” In the United States, he is known for having donated large sums of money in a failed effort to defeat President George W. Bush’s bid for re-election in 2004. On BookTV, November 12, 2007, he said that he supports Barack Obama for the Democratic candidate in the 2008 election, but says that John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, or Joe Biden are all fine candidates, as well.

Former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker wrote in 2003 in the foreword of Soros’ book The Alchemy of Finance:

In 1988, he was asked to join a takeover attempt of the French bank Société Générale. He declined to participate in the bid but did later buy a number of shares in the company. French authorities began an investigation in 1989, and in 2002 a French court ruled that it was insider trading as defined under French securities laws and fined him $2 million, which was the amount that he made using the insider information.

Punitive damages were not sought because of the delay in bringing the case to trial. Soros denied any wrongdoing and said news of the takeover was public knowledge.[19]

Posted on another thread. Not just Soros, but additional allies now.

(Tied into SNL pulling the skit from youtube strangely enough.) From http://michellemalkin.com/2008/10/06/the-missing-snl-bailout-skit-and-the-soros-connection/

Ed Lasky recently reported on how the Sandlers — allies of left-wing billionaire George Soros — helped bring down Wachovia Bank:

Herbert and Marion Sandler, a New York lawyer and Wall Street analyst respectively, bought a small California thrift in 1963 and built it into GDW — one of the largest thrifts in the nation. The company’s business was built on adjustable rate mortgages (ARMs. These were mortgages offered at low “teaser” rates that ratcheted upward as interest rates increased. They were often sold aggressively to unsophisticated home buyers who did not comprehend the vast financial risks they were taking, or who assumed that housing prices would rise high enough to provide a profit to them when they sold their houses. They were targets for lenders peddling mortgages that should have been stamped with a skull and crossbones, for these were among the most seductive and dangerous types of mortgage.

This book of business is the core reason for Wachovia’s current difficulties

The Sandlers knew their business far better than any other person could. Not only were they the founders and major owners, they famously ran the company as a husband and wife team for all these years.

So why did they happen to cash out at precisely the right time? Did they see the handwriting on the wall, realizing the massive risks inherent in the mortgages they originated throughout one of the most overheated real estate markets in the nation’s history? They are not talking, but when smart people cash in some of their chips, it’s rarely a good time to bet against them. Nevertheless, Wachovia bet 24 billion dollars and lost big time.

The collapse was primarily caused by the GDW purchase, which became an albatross around Wachovia’s neck soon after the purchase. “Wachovia found itself in ARM’s Way” was the headline of a recent Wall Street Journal article. A huge percentage of these Wachovia ARMs were made to deep subprime borrowers with very poor credit scores. Most of these were “inherited from its ill-timed acquisition of Golden West” at the end of the housing boom in 2006.

The Sandlers have started to invest their billions of dollars politically, in the manner of George Soros, sugar daddy of many far-left wing groups and an early and prominent supporter of Presidential candidate Barack Obama. Soros has developed an empire of so-called 527 groups, putatively independent political activists groups that have influence within the Democratic Party. These 527 groups include the Center for American Progress, MoveOn.Org, Human Rights Watch, Media Matters and a slew of other like-minded groups…

Soros, Lewis, and the Sandlers form a core group of billionaire activists and Democrat partisans who have formed a group called The Democracy Alliance. They realized that they could magnify their power by working in unison and tapping other wealthy donors to further their agenda (the superb Boston Globe article “Follow the money” is a good primer on how money and 527 groups have come together to have a huge impact on politics in America).

The Democracy Alliance is a major avenue to help them achieve their goals. The roster of its growing membership consists of a list of billionaires and mere multi-millionaires who collectively hope to give upwards of 500 million dollars each year to further promote a left-wing agenda. A partial roster of the Democracy Alliance membership can be found here.

Half a billion dollars a year can purchase a great deal of influence.

The Sandlers certainly know quite a bit about leverage from their savings and loan days.

Among the beneficiaries of their largesse: Air America, ACORN (a group that has very close and long lasting ties to Barack Obama and has a long history of engaging in voter fraud. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (basically a private detective group focused on the private faults and foibles of Republicans), Media Matters, a media watchdog group that engages in harsh partisan attacks against media figures and articles it considers supportive of Republicans). The list goes on and on.

They are not merely out to elect Democrats, but to also permanently realign U.S. politics and shift our society and culture in a far-left wing direction…

In an interview with The Washington Post on November 11, 2003,[26] Soros said that removing President George W. Bush from office was the “central focus of my life” and “a matter of life and death.” He said he would sacrifice his entire fortune to defeat President Bush, “if someone guaranteed it”, and many continue to state this as Soros’s position even after Soros clarified the statement in a Q&A session at the end of his March 3, 2004 address to California’s Commonwealth Club.

Soros gave $3 million to the Center for American Progress, committed $5 million to MoveOn, while he and his friend Peter Lewis each gave America Coming Together $10 million. (All were groups that worked to support Democrats in the 2004 election.) On September 28, 2004 he dedicated more money to the campaign and kicked off his own multi-state tour with a speech: Why We Must Not Re-elect President Bush[27] delivered at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. The online transcript to this speech received many hits after Dick Cheney accidentally referred to FactCheck.org as “factcheck.com” in the Vice Presidential debate, causing the owner of that domain to redirect all traffic to Soros’s site.[28]

Soros was not a large donor to US political causes until the U.S. presidential election, 2004, but according to the Center for Responsive Politics, during the 2003-2004 election cycle, Soros donated $23,581,000 to various 527 Groups dedicated to defeating President Bush. Despite Soros’ efforts, Bush was reelected to a second term as president in U.S. presidential election, 2004.

After Bush’s reelection in 2004, Soros and other wealthy liberal political donors backed a new political fundraising group called Democracy Alliance which aims to support the goals of the U.S. Democratic Party.[29][30]

Soros has been criticized for his large donations, as he also pushed for the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 which was intended to ban “soft money” contributions to federal election campaigns. Soros has responded that his donations to unaffiliated organizations do not raise the same corruption issues as donations directly to the candidates or political parties.

Harken Energy, a firm partly owned by Soros, did business with George W. Bush in 1986 by buying his oil company, Spectrum 7.

His book, The Age of Fallibility: Consequences of The War on Terror, was published in June 2006.[31]

Soro’s has cried wolf many times. But he has predicted a huge bubble collapse. In fact, he has a book that came out this year about it.

No, he didn't do it. He is a small fry. We are talking trillions of dollars here. He didn't allow the illegals to buy homes and the poor to do it like the Repubs and Dems have allowed.

Directly and through his organization Open Society Institute (OSI), he has funded various gun control organizations, such as the Tides Foundation, the HELP Network and SAFE Colorado. He and seven friends founded their own political committee — Campaign for a Progressive Future — and spent $2 million on political activities in 2000, including providing the prime financial backing for the Million Mom March. OSI has supported UN efforts to create international gun control regulations and has singled out the United States for failing to go along with other countries on international gun control measures.[citation needed]
