People may have expected this, but my understanding is that the NRA's endorsement of John McCain wasn't a guaranteed outcome, because of the NRA's past disagreements with McCain about campaign finance reform and his support for a gun show restriction bill he cosponsored with Joe Lieberman....

The NRA is also NOT afraid of lawsuits from Obama. No one intimidates the NRA.
As stated below - when the NRA endorses a Repub candidate they usually win.
More importantly: "There's a pretty straightforward correlation between NRA endorsements and Republican presidential victories. Since 1980, they endorsed Reagan twice, George H.W. Bush the first time but not the second, and George W. Bush twice."
This is great!!! Now they need to endorse all of our down ticket candidates.
‘NRA’s endorsement of John McCain wasn’t a guaranteed outcome,’
That’s pretty telling in it’s own right.
This is important in Pennsylvania, where we have a lot of Democratic gun owners—those “bitter” small town people who “cling to guns and religion.”
The influence of the NRA is very underrated. They do a great job of turning people out.
This will help McCain big time in OH, PA, MI, VA, NC, WI, and CO.
Interesting. How about in '96? Did they endorse Dole, or withhold any endorsement? Even so, their record is near perfect in this regard.
So Dole didn’t get the nod? Was the NRA still deemed radical after Waco or something? Oh, by the way, I am the NRA.
I don’t know if the NRA endorsed Dole are not but I think he was OK on gun rights as far an my memory servces me.
It’s widely agreed that Al Gore probably would have won in 2000 if he had not made the major mistake of running on an anti-gun platform.
The Democrats were making a full-bore attack on gun owners in those years, deluded into thinking it was a winning issue, and it backfired on them badly, thank God!
“This will help McCain big time in OH, PA, MI, VA, NC, WI, and CO.”
Don’t forget NM, there are a TON of gun folk there. :-)
The NRA is also NOT afraid of lawsuits from Obama. No one intimidates the NRA.
I'd love to see Hussein's "Truth Squad" show up and try to intimidate the NRA ("Well do you feel lucky punk, do you? Go ahead, make my day!").
As far as I’m concerned, the Republican Party is simply the NRA plus the Club for Growth.
Those are the two most effective organizations on the conservative side of the ledger.
This is great news.
And NV
Considering this endorsement I’m sure John Meacham now regrets picking this photo for the cover. Thanks John.
Who did they endorse in 1996?
Let’s hope and pray they keep their streak alive.

BTTT
I am glad the NRA will be on our side if “that (evil) one” and his flunkies get into the White House. But can they run ads now? I thought they would be prevented from doing this by a little piece of legislation called McCain-Feingold.
Excellent!
“I dont know if the NRA endorsed Dole are not but I think he was OK on gun rights as far an my memory servces me.”
I don’t know if they endorsed him, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t. Dole, Mark Hatfield and 2 dems, on the night before the Thanksgiving break passed Brady.
http://www.gunowners.org/bihow.htm
[snips] ON THE DAY BEFORE Thanksgiving, the U.S. Congress brought forth a constitutional turkey. The Congress decided that the Second Amendment did not mean what it said (”... shall not be infringed”) and passed the Brady bill.
” But Bob Dole and company chose to give up many chances to fight these bills this year. In fact, Senator Dole was quoted in the Washington Post on November 21 (while the filibuster was going on) as saying: “We finally decided . . . let’s get the Brady bill behind us.” There was no need to help those who would take away our rights to do so more quickly. A football team that offers no resistance as its opponents march to the one-yard line, should not expect to keep them out of the end zone.
And negotiations always favor those who are less willing to compromise. Yet during the critical November 20-21 period, what was Bob Dole saying? According to the New York Times of November 22: “Let’s get the best deal we can and move on.” “
I am glad to hear that no one intimidates them. That seems to be the Dem’s election plan. Pretty Brownshirt-y if you ask me.
Can’t wait til they run ads blowing Obama out of the water. May he fizzle and sink.
Good idea, I’ll do the same.

Dole did NOT get the NRA’s endorsement in 1996. See this article, 4th paragraph down:

Yes and don't forget about MN, the NRA have already been running radio ads against Franken and I think they may be able to pull some of the Iron range folks away from the Dem side, hopefully this will work against "The One" as well.
OH NO! And I went and renewed my NRA membership. Obama’s “people” his “truth/squash squads” will be comng for me...
Well, hopefully the “bitters” in PA will be helped along by this, because PA is going consistent double-digits for Zero.
That's what I'd like to see.
Thank Sarah Palin for that.
When was this announced? Could this be the “big announcement” I had been hearing about?
“Did ACORN Take Obama’s ‘Get In Their Face’ Rallying Cry Literally?”
look at these links and be very afraid. (bookmark and send to the media and the campaign.
Combine these 3 clips and whadda ya get?
‘be smart to take out stock in Jack Boots and Brown Shirts.

Do you (we) have to wait until their inside and in our face till we react?
ABSOLUTELY
We need to get this drum beat started - yesterday.
If we let the houses continue under Reid and Pelosi - that will ham string McC/Sarah.
MOST dangerous - if the demRats get their 60% majority - NO Republican bill will EVER see the light of day/
WE need to oust the criminals in DC that orchestrated, presided over and protected this economic meltdown - else we will see far worse real soon/
Well, my dad always told me that if you shoot him//them on the porch, then haul them inside, then go back out and kick in the door, then call the law and tell the po-leeese "dat he was breakin in and I'z got skayrt and shot at im jis to try an skare im, but I mus av hit im"
YOu write: “I’d love to see Hussein’s “Truth Squad” show up and try to intimidate the NRA”
They already did.

If anybody can deliver PA it will be the NRA and also angry Hillary voters plus our team.
I first learned about Sarah in an NRA magazine. I had a fellow come to my office to give me a quote on some work. I saw his truck and he had a rifle sticker and a McCain sticker. He is an NRA member.
He said Obama will take our guns and I know he is correct. Obama is backed by Soros. They wiped out the financial system using Fannie & Freddie and Soros has made billions.
If we let this man gain control of the WH, this will be a very real possibility.
As we know, the goons of the liberals already control our colleges and practice Communist tactics of intimidation, reporting on and ‘reeducation’ of citizens.
Look at these clips and as you shudder, email them to the media and the campaign.
FOX is stepping up to the plate and really exposing the demRATS and bambi. Lets keep FREEPING them info.
Remember the formula of the networks: The office people that screen the emails only pass them on when they get X-amount on a given subject.
So this is OUR part - WE the PEOPLE - in protecting our freedoms.
and the McC/Sarah campaign at:
info@McCainPalinVictory2008.com
Be sure to add your name and town and email - or they won't read them.
IMPORTANT when emailing. they wont read mass emails - SO,
put just one email add in the to line then click on BBC at the end of that line. a BCC line will open just above subject line. copy paste the rest of the addresses in there and each recipient will see ONLY their name - and in the subject line make reference to OBAMA'S PRIVATE POLICE FORCE or OBAMA'S NATIONAL POLICE FORCE
Lets make it happen. This is our part in protecting our freedoms = WE THE PEOPLE - we act now or get ready for Jack Boots and Brown Shirts...Obama already has his personal police force plans ready
copy the email addresses for use for the rest of the campaign
I quit the Club for Growth because Steven Moore (founder) was pro illegal. 5 million failed mortgages went to illegals according to HUD.
Yup. Dole was for the Brady bill and note they did not endorse Bush 1 in the second election.
The NRA’s win record is all wins and no losses.
No one intimidates the NRA. Wayne LaPierre went after Clinton and won. Some people cringed at first but LaPierre was right.
Volunteer and donate for McCain-Palin 2008.
The NRA also sends out millions upon millions of voter guides. Their endorsement means a lot.
Good advice that I will memorize werd ta werd.
I know how, and understand why, they endorse the candidates that they do, but I get really tired of getting notices of support for RINO's like Gordon Smith, and democrats that support the Second Amendment, but sell us down the river on illegal immigration.
Typical white person.
Got my renewal notice today. And they’ve earned my support for another year or two.
I have no interest in girly magazines, but my American Rifleman magazine can almost make me lust...{:+0
