The National Rifle Association is endorsing Republican presidential nominee John McCain despite differences with the Arizona senator on gun-show rules and campaign finance restrictions.
NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and the chairman of the NRA's political action committee planned stops Thursday in Pennsylvania, Missouri, Colorado and Nevada to talk about the move.
LaPierre said the two agree on many issues important to the group.
"He's cast more than 60 votes in the Senate in support of the Second Amendment," LaPierre said.
The NRA's Political Victory Fund has spent more than $2.3 million opposing Democratic nominee Barack Obama. The chairman of the political action committee, Chris W. Cox, says its spending in the presidential race will grow to "eight figures" by Election Day. Besides ads, encouraging battleground-state gun owners to vote will be a key focus, he said.
The PAC was running an ad Thursday in USA Today accusing Obama of waffling on gun-rights issues and challenging his statements that he supports the right to bear arms. Obama has said he respects the Second Amendment but doesn't think it precludes "some commonsense gun laws so that we don't have kids being shot on the streets of cities like Chicago."
The NRA PAC's future spending will target Obama on gun issues and start publicizing the records of McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, LaPierre said.

The NRA doesn't always endorse presidential candidates. It has backed President Bush but declined to endorse Bob Dole in the 1996 race or President George H.W. Bush in 1992.
Obama has been endorsed by the American Hunters and Shooters Association, which calls itself a "mainstream group of hunters" that supports safe and responsible gun ownership.

I am indeed shocked that the NRA failed to endorse the marxist muslim, Hussein II.
American Hunters and Shooters is neither.
My guess is that this is the BIG announcement from the McCain campaign.
Hey AP, Obama also calls himself an "American." Neither statement is true.
Interesting that the NRA never endorsed anyone in the two last elections that Republicans lost!
The question to be answered now is whether the millions of gun owners/hunters will vote their wallets or they weapons.
“Obama has been endorsed by the American Hunters and Shooters Association”
Senator Obama...I know the American Hunters and Shooters Association...and, “they are no NRA.”
Has anyone been following the endorsement game? I have not seen much along this line. One would expect that unions, particularly teacher’s unions, would have already come out for the Marxist Onada. And what about newspapers? I have not even seen many dem pols standing up and proudly proclaiming themselves desciples of the Marxist Onada. Anybody have a feel for this?
Why would that shock you?
The question to be answered now is whether the millions of gun owners/hunters will vote their wallets or they weapons.””
I hope they will vote both, then we clearly have a landslide for McCain who tried to fix the mess created by the Clinton fools, boosted by Dodd, Hussein, Barney Fag, and the rest of the vote buyers in the RAT party.
Am I the only one to ponder the TIMING of the financial crisis?
Sarc.
We know commie infiltration takes place in all levels of society.
They use our own laws against us.
“Am I the only one to ponder the TIMING of the financial crisis?”
No Sir, you are not. I my gut, my very basic deep down core gut tells me that somehow — soros has is fingers all over this somehow...or, at least fronted the money to start series of unfortunate events...but I whole heartedly agree with you.
NRA had better not be for any commie.
We belong to it.
You’re right, they’re a scam front for gun banners to give politicians cover.
when he raises taxes on anyone, that money will go to the government instead of to investment in business. It will fail to provide jobs, and fail to create products or services that add to the efficiency and wealth of the nation.
In return, you'll get a hapless government bureaucrat who performs some service for you at twice the price and half the efficiency of industry. you'll get fewer choices of product, and higher prices.
So how exactly does that help your wallet?
My guess is that this is the BIG announcement from the McCain campaign.
I was hoping it would be bigger than this. lol. This is not news. Everyone knew that McCain gets the “pro-gun” vote.
go go go!!!
you mean the obama bullet tax is not about the wallet?
They’re just endorsing him now? Have they been on an extended vacation? Maybe they should wait a few more weeks and endorse him AFTER the election.
No brainer, really, but this is still BIG. The NRA has millions of members and sends out millions of voter guides.
They waited until after McCain can no longer accept direct campaign contributions. Can they at least run ads on his behalf? Otherwise, you’re right, it is not news.

And yet, few people will connect the dots. This is part of buying the presidency for a marxist muslim destined to destroy another representative republic. I have many friends, a few relatives, and several colleagues in the military and I can’t imagine them taking orders from another Hussein. What will happen?
Another Bambi lie. He's voted in favor of legislation to keep handguns illegal in ritzy places like Wilmette Illinois. Violent crime there is BELOW the national average. The median house price is close to a million bucks (859K).
Someone needs to remind Bambi that in that price range, people generally dont shoot each other on the streets.
The NRA could make a doozy ad out of this lie of his.
The NRA has been running ads on NObama and his ‘support’ for the 2nd Amendment. Most of the spots feature a retired police officer, or a returning soldier from Iraq. They are pretty powerful testaments to where Nobama stands on the 2nd Amendment.
That’s right, rom. I’d wager real money that if McCain had not chosen Sarah Palin as his running mate, this NRA endorsement would have never been made.

Would you be shocked to learn that the NRA endorsed a candidate that accused our Marines of cold blooded murder?
Do you mean Murtha was endorsed following his false accusations against our marines, or after? If so, I don’t get it because the NRA usually endorses candidates—at least for the last 25 years— that share most real American values.
Scroll down to House District 12 to see the NRA's latest endorsement. For 2008. I'm done with the NRA. I'm mailing them my cut up membership card as I told them I would if they endorsed this scumbag.
I agree he is scum, but don’t be deceived, the NRA is the only organization out there that represents gun owners and has the clout to move politicians to vote to preserve this piece of freedom. I have yet to find a single organization, politician, or business that acted as I wished on every issue. In general, I give the NRA about a 90% grade. Nobody gets a 100%. Just think of all the NRA members that will vote for Hussein Obama—these are the people I have total disdain for.
The NRA endorses candidates based on the Second Amendment. Since you don’t regard the Second Amendment as a primary issue, you were wrong to belong to them in the first place.
By the way, some people will always an excuse to do nothing.
Sorry, I’ve been computer challenged for a couple of days and didn’t see your post. The NRA cares about the NRA and how much money they can get off of brain dead followers. It’s pretty much been that way since Charlton Heston left. There’s nobody on this forum that is more 2nd Amendment than me. Your opinion matters not one iota to me.
No you don't. You haven't supported the commercials against obama. You haven't supported the four or five lawsuits against the cities due to the Heller Decision. You haven't spent one penny on Gunrange Protection, Firearms Manufacturer's Protection or the lawsuit against Disney for their workers who keep their guns in their cars.
You apparently support the Second Amendment as much as obama claims he does.
