WASHINGTON -- After forgoing character attacks during the second presidential debate, Republican John McCain sought Wednesday to sow doubt about Democrat Barack Obama's background and character. Obama, meanwhile, accused the McCain campaign of trying to "score cheap political points."
Both candidates tried to play into voters' worries about the other with a mere four weeks to go before Election Day. McCain is perceived as being weak on the economy, and Obama continued a line of attack against the veteran senator for saying recently that the fundamentals of the U.S. economy were strong.
McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, challenged Obama's campaign claims, stressed his lack of experience and said his ideas were dangerous.
"We've all heard what he's said. But it's less clear what he's done, or what he will do," McCain told supporters in the battleground state of Pennsylvania.
McCain's remarks about Obama were interrupted with shouts of "socialist," "terrorist" and "liar."
Palin said there were too many questions about Obama's past: "John McCain didn't just come out of nowhere. The American people know John McCain."
And for the second time in three days, a speaker at a Republican rally invoked Obama's middle name, Hussein, in an apparent attempt to feed lingering fears about the Democrat's background.
Lehigh County Republican Chairman Bill Platt twice used Obama's middle name before McCain and Palin arrived at the campaign stop in the town of Bethlehem. The campaign quickly issued a statement saying it did not condone "this inappropriate rhetoric."

It would be my pleasure to talk with Barack Obama face to face. Really.
Yes, Barack, that's it. John McCain, a combat veteran who survived hell in the Hanoi Hilton, ... is afraid of you.
LMAO!

Barry’s bowing up huh? Bring it on then, tough guy.
Obama’s next tactic is to yell, “And your mother wears combat boots.”
Equally mature.
Sheesh, how can nearly half the voters in this nation be seriously thinking of voting for a Chicago street thug to be president? HOW?
AND if he had? McC would have been damned for that too...
I’LL GET IN OBAMA’S FACE... NO PROBLEM...
Precisely. If McCain had brought it up, Nobama would have said, “THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS DEBATE IS ALL ABOUT. MCCAIN ISN’T STAYING WITH THE AGREED FORMAT.”
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
“Obama, meanwhile, accused the McCain campaign of trying to “score cheap political points.”
I would think that cheap political points are a more efficient use of campaign resources than expensive political points.
The Girly Boy Man Child is trying to be macho again. How funny.
Obama making digs at McCain’s torture injuries?
Frankly, you know, Senator McCain ended up lurching from place to place on this issue,” he [Obama] said

Biden said you cannot lead the nation when you “lurch so rapidly from one fundamental position to another.”

I want to say this in the most delicate way possible.
This reaction from Obama wont play well with mainstream white america. Hopefully this can stay on the news cycle today.

Barry took the bait!
His paid, professional lair, Burton, was on F&F. Slamming McCain’s housing plan.
Aaron Tippin sings Drill Here, Drill Now” Great song!
Feds conducting RICO investigation of ACORN
Corsi has the goods on Odinga and Obama
Obama is on the ropes and he knows it!
So real middle names are VERBOTEN...but this does not apply to any other United States Presidential candidate or President in the history of this country....
Isn't that special.

Precisely. If McCain had brought it up, Nobama would have said, THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS DEBATE IS ALL ABOUT. MCCAIN ISNT STAYING WITH THE AGREED FORMAT.
...THAT’S precisely what McCain NEEDS to do next debate. Break format and tell everyone what this pathetic excuse for a human being is all about. Early. Not later when everyone’s watching “Sanford & Son” reruns.
I agree with you, al. McCain does need to break format and go for the jugular. It is past time.
It is the only way to get our voices heard over the MSM.
“he wasn’t willing to say it to my face. But I guess we’ve got one last debate. So presumably, if he ends up feeling that he needs to, he will raise it during the debate.”
“the girly boy man child....,” no kidding.
John McCain isn’t stupid...bringing it up last Tuesday night in the “supposedly undecided forum,” would have been a rookie move on Senator McCain’s part and he knew it — because he would have dipped considerably in the polls — just like calling McCain out will be viewed by a lot of voters on the right as a call to action (thanks obie) — I for one have forwarded your “calling out,” of McCain to about 75 folks already this morning and by this afternoon could be over 300 so, just like when one football team talks trash about another football team — it goes up on the locker-room bulletin board thanks that is good motivational material for my team, because obie, you have nnnnnnoooooo idea how many folks on my team would love to “say it to your face.”
The fact of the matter is; Obie has got nothing left but to try and goad Senator McCain into a Jack Nicolson like moment where he goes completely off, like in the scene from a few good men; [contemptuously] You f’n people... you have no idea how to defend a nation. All you did was weaken a country today, Kaffee. That’s all you did. You put people’s lives in danger. Sweet dreams, son.
That, IMO, is all this is by obie, “puffing up,” that is all this is all about — obie is playing puffer fish.
Obie honestly knows what the “real internals” are telling him and he knows he is running out of time — all he has to do (in his campaign’s mind and maybe in his) is to get Senator McCain to go off on him.
In the words of Bush 41 — “not gonna do it, wouldn’t be prudent.” IMO...
Can anyone think of a more public figure than the President of The United States of America?
And a candidate for this position will have a middle name that's improper and inappropriate to voice?
I remember the nuns from grade school telling us about life behind the "Iron Curtain". Guess the girls were just getting us ready?
We can only hope McCain brings a heat-seeking missile to Obama’s next knife fight.
When you going to fight back John??
Pray for W, Palin/McCain and Our Troops
Ohmigawd! Someone said The One's middle name! How lowdown and dirty can the McCain Campaign get!
That is funny and so true.
If you are married and your wife has let’s say has added a few, and she confronts you with the question; “does this make me look fat.”
The correct response is always; “no dear, you are as beautiful as the day we met.”
This is kind of the same way — Senator McCain must respond to this this way — he is after all, a distinguished United States Senator and must not appear to be less than Presidential...”but the fact of the matter is, people will continue to say it...funny how that works.”
IMO...
How childish.
I think he’s seriously trying to convey that message. . . that McCain IS afraid. Despicable.
I believe the country should now refer to him as Barack Irresponsible Rhetoric Obama from now on.
William Jefferson Clinton
George Walker Bush
Barack Irresponsible Rhetoric Obama
Way to keep this in the news, Barry. Now McCain can blast him for being provocative and questioning Mac’s courage. Rookie move to question Mac’s courage.
“Lehigh County Republican Chairman Bill Platt twice used Obama’s middle name before McCain and Palin arrived at the campaign stop in the town of Bethlehem. The campaign quickly issued a statement saying it did not condone “this inappropriate rhetoric.” “
I am so confused. The man’s middle name is HUSSIEN. Is that not important? It’s inappropriate to know who this man, Obama, is?
And guilt by association is a bad thing right? The Ayers association is scoring “cheap political points”? But... if it scores points, there must be something there?
Ok, let’s assume probing associations is bad, (it isn’t but go with it). Then why is it ok for Obama to link McCain to Bush? Isn’t that an association?
Do you know what I find most distressing? We can’t win in the long run. The left has taken over the public schools. Conservatives have abandoned the public schools, so what you have is comrade factories.
If McCain wins, and everything isn’t fixed tomorrow, it will be more “failed policies”. And Pelosi and Reid will be sabotaging any effort to fix anything.
If Obama wins, everything that goes in the dumper, and most things will, will be blamed on the evil Bush administration. Obama will never be seen as weak or error prone, the media will see to that.
I think Obama wrote a position paper on this very subject.
I wouldn’t want to talk to Obama either. In fact I hate radical terrorists and freely say so, but I don’t travel to the Middle East to say it to their face. Obama is so childish.
