Vincent Howard, 40, who is the operations director of Biocair in Cambridge, said he and his family lived in fear after Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC) allegedly started to target the company and its employees in 2004.
Mr Howard, a father-of-three, told Winchester Crown Court he and his partner Sandra Martin had paint stripper poured over their cars and tyres punctured at home.
He was then informed a letter was circulating in the village falsely accusing him of being a convicted paedophile.
He told the court: "I was coaching a kids football team at the time and that was a bit rough. You think, 'Do I want to carry on with it?'"
He said he hit a "low point" when he pushed his children's wardrobes in front of the bedroom window and fitted reinforced glass because he feared an attack from someone who wrongly might believe he was a paedophile.
The family also received a hoax bomb through the post in April 2006 with experts donning protective gear to check it out.
He told the court that the lasting consequence of the attacks was that the family sleep with the windows shut and he always checks his car first thing in the morning.

They’re getting more creative too, which is scary. Used to be, even recently, that they’d just try to kill you and your family with a firebomb. Now instead of generating sympathy for you, they try to go after your reputation and discredit you. If they ever target my company and come after me I can defend myself physically but how do you prevent something like this?
