Thomas Sowell: The Real Obama, Part IV
The Jewish World Review ^ | October 9, 2008 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 10/08/2008 5:42:32 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Barack Obama's supporters often try to sidestep questions about his character and judgment by saying that we should stick to what they arbitrarily define as "the real issues." But Senator Obama's record on specific issues is as bad as his record of repeatedly allying himself over the years with people who make no attempt to hide their hatred of America.

Among the so-called "real issues" are earmarks for Senators' pet projects, like the "bridge to nowhere." These are among the most indefensible parts of the inbred Washington political culture, which Obama has so often claimed to be against, as part of his promise of "change" to "clean up the mess in Washington."

Yet Senator Obama not only voted in favor of the bridge to nowhere, he voted against anti-earmark amendments proposed by Senator John McCain.

Obama has had more than two dozen of his own earmarks in the past fiscal year, and he knows the Senate well enough to know that, if he voted against the bridge to nowhere, his own earmarks might get nowhere.

Those earmarks, incidentally, included a million dollars of the taxpayers' money for a facility where his wife works at the University of Chicago. Her salary rose by nearly $200,000 when her husband became a United States Senator — no doubt a shrewd investment by the university that paid off.

When a highly publicized bridge collapse in Minnesota in 2007 led Senator Tom Coburn to propose taking money from federal spending on bicycle paths and use it for maintaining and repairing bridges instead, Senator Obama voted against it. The kind of people who vote for him want bike paths.

I think the proper term is “Uncle Tom.”

Excellent articles, as usual, from Mr. Sowell.

The REAL ISSUE is Barack’s character. He says one thing, then he says another. But what will he DO? Let’s not find out.

McCain-Palin 2008!

God forbid, Obama wins, we’ll have a great time here watching everything that goes on. I fondly miss the banter at FR during the Clinton era.

No, what'll happen is that Obambi and his friends in the house and Senate will re-introduce the "fairness doctrine", but this time, the legislation will be enhanced to shut down conservative web sites as well as conservative media. People don't realize that this socialist wants to silence dissent.

What fine clarity of mind the man displays.

My thanks to Mr. Sowell for writing this, and to you for posting it here.

Am I the only one wishing that the good Mr. Sowell was running for office?

That just can't be...
I'm supposed to be bitter, clinging to my guns and religion, and my antipathy towards those "unlike" me.

According to the brilliant Senator 0bama, since I'm a white man, I'm supposed to have antipathy towards the likes of Mr. Sowell. Somehow, I just can't conjure up within myself any antipathy towards him. I've even tried to, on purpose...just can't find much fault with the man and his ideas. Wait --- he and I are both mature males.
I must be "sexist". That explains it!

Aah, I feel so much better now that I see within myself what is wrong.

But wait! What about Zero-man's opinions toward Mr. Sowell? I'd bet he hates him, 'cause he 'aint like him, the liberal, sophisticated, stealth-marxist sympathizer. That, and Mr. Sowell makes clean work of pulling Zero's cover, looking beyond the false mask Zero effects.

Is that what Zero meant when he said of guys like me, that we are holding onto our antipathy towards those "not like us"?

Yes, Mr. Obama, I do hold some antipathy towards those whom always blame America first, for all the world's ills (as the bulk of Obama's supporters do), particularly at those times when it's not simply more convenient to blame the current sitting U.S. President, George Bush, first!

Not to worry. You may just get an encore in 2012.
